    Oh and a certain Blogmaster (the “Bush Lawyer” who used to drop by here) over there claims to have studied the Law. Which was news to me. Otherwise it being very misleading of them.

    Dare I say on purpose to give further authority to what the Blogmaster posts ?

    I suppose I can claim that I studied the Law since I studied Company Law, Constitutional Law, Trade Practices and Consumer Law, Income Taxation Law, Indirect Tax Law.

    But know I dont claim to have studied the Law as that would be grossly misleading on the blogosphere as I was doing those aspects of the Law to finish an Economics and Accounting Degree.

    People like Sancty study the Law.

    The discussion on asylum seekers is all about ALP vs Liberals off shore processing, without the complication of anyone suggesting that both are a crock of shit.

    It’s well suited to the opposing intellectual giants of scaper and Iain Hall. They’ll give Min and Catching Up a run for their money!

    This is a dedicated thread designed for the purpose of laughing at those at TPS and CW who have lost the plot.

    The other day at CW (before I banned myself) I was having a conversation about the weather (on the appropriate thread) and someone called out ‘troll’. That didn’t concern me and I carried on, then the locals began putting up pop songs from last century in a ‘look over there’ opportunity.

    Amusingly boorish and its no wonder Dunlop is horrified by the barrackers at those places…intellectual pygmies.

    After 17 years & countless acts of lovable canine craziness, I finally put my old girl to sleep for the last time late yesterday afternoon.

    Anyone who really knows me most likely knew her too, she was my shadow & had kept vigil by my side since I was 20.

    Waking up this morning to a house without my mate has been tough. There is an empty spot on my left knee where she sat & a hole in my heart that will hurt for a long while.
    It is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make; but it was the only choice that was right for her. She had finally run out of terrier juice & each day was becoming a progressively harder struggle for her to get around.

    TJ & I slept the last night with her in the lounge in front of the heater. She was comfortable & content & peaceful.

    We’re gonna miss her yapping & scrapping & running underfoot.

    Goodbye, Old Friend.

    Ah, Toilet, been there and it’s just such a sad thing.

    Mentioned to Li’l Sancty the other day that when we’ve moved, I’ll be getting him a puppy. It’s one of my strongly held beliefs that every little boy should have a dog if possible. Was all geared up for a long running war with Mrs Sancty on the issue. I also hold a belief that in marriage there is only one fight in ten worth winning, and that one is best conceding the other nine, but never conceding that one. This was to be one of those. Surprisingly, all I got from Mrs Sancty was “Well you’ll be responsible for feeding and walking the bloody thing!”

    Somehow, I think I’ve been played.

    Sounds like she was in a fair bit of pain in the end, if life gets like that for me i would hope i am allowed such a ‘good death’ too.

    OK

    After watching the news from overseas and Wall Street and the ASX I get the feeling we might be about to have a reasonable rally on the Market come tomorrow (another shocker today with BHP and Woodside almost going sub $30

    Even if the Chinese GDP numbers are bad/soft there will be plenty of scope for them to stimulate their economy without an outbreak of inflation. So the Market should hold up.

    If the Chinese numbers are good then the Market will rally anyway on that fact alone.

    In Europe Spain has just announced more cuts in government spending and a higher VAT to cut their deficit. Overnight the yields on Spanish debt went to mid 6s which is still very bad………..but getting better. That combined with the rescue package of its Banks leads me to believe that the shoring up of Spain is now well underway.

    Once that’s done Italy will be a lesser problem. However they will still divorce Greece in the New Year I reckon. They’ll give them a few Billion and kiss them goodbye on good terms and gently request them not to whinge about the Germans.

    Kinda like Cruise and Holmes and don’t whinge about Scientology I s’pose .

    With an achievable plan to move to full fiscal union within the EU they might be able to muddle through their crisis until……………………………….the end of next week.

    The EU will still languish in recession but we might just might be scraping along the bottom right now.

    And yeah…………………….I got quite a bit of $ riding on all this now

    Just to clarify, for kitty.

    Thankfully she was in no pain. Unfortunately there is no cure for being really, really old. Blind, deaf, weak & ailing.
    I think she’d have kept on going & going, but the amount of 24hr attention required was not feasible.

    I completely share your sentiments about dignified death for humans too. The green dream was suddden, painless & not foreboding. We should all have the option. Another great example of stupid fucking religious dogma getting in the way of sensible compassion.

    I know ToSY, as evidenced by “every pro Gillard Facebook group” accusation.

    I note that they have completely ignored any discussion of Tim Dunlop’s recent criticism of the Gillard Government and instead respond with the defiant “Why I still vote Labor.”

    Gone is any semblence of relatively objective political discourse. It’s just become a fringe group of rusted on Gillard supporters in much the same vein as teh “Political Sword.”

    But at least they’re now showing their true colours I suppose. Any sort of interest in discussing the political landscape of the day is now clearly viewed from a pro-Gillard perspective and anything else simply won’t be tolerated (as Tom found out).

    Sad really.

    I find the refusal to accept that a lot of people see things a different way astonishing. Dismissing all criticism of the government/Gillard/whatever as trolling/conspiracy & defining anyone but a rusted-on as a rightwing or wingnuts…it just defies logic.
    It’s like some kind of desperate self justification which can’t be conceded for fear of tarnishing an established position.
    Seriously, a lot of ’em are smart people, but they’re slavish & embarassing in their devotion. It just doesn’t bear scrutiny.

    Blaming vast conspiracies & asserting that dissenters are agents of the other side is the last refuge of those who’ve painted themselves into a corner. The final stand of apologists.

    Self affirmation is something that humanz seem to naturally gravitate towards. Let’s face it, it’s comfortable, it’s unchallenging & it probably makes a man/woman think that they’re arriving at the correct conclusions because everyone around them is saying very similar stuff.
    That’s not to say that there’s not some merit in what they say. Just that once it’s been said, well, it’s been said…everything after that point is generally convenient agreement.

    I prefer a bit of niggle & polar opposites either reminding me of why I hold the opinions I hold…or chipping away at the edges with nuance, explanation, rationalisation & otherwise unheard justification. It’s much more interesting & it ensures healthy scepticism & evolution of opinion.

    Indeed. I think the “danger” arises when anyone who dissents from the prevailing view is simply slammed as “a troll” or worse, just banned, as Tom has experienced.

    It’s a lazy form of imposing conformity and silencing dissent.

    Accusing others of what they are guilty of themselves is the final stage in their own false sense of persecution and self aggrandisment.

    It is a completely delusional state, with the “persecuted” participants both fuelling their own sense of “persecution” as if they were somehow “chosen” to champion “the cause”.

    It is cult like behaviour, which is why I am a bit concerned…

    In retrospect my commenting at Cafe Whispers was bound to end as it did. Miglo only wanted to insult me, and others prefer to label and deride rather than debate.

    In my defence, I was only attracted back there after Min commented (here) that “no one is banned at Cafe Whispers”. “News to me” I thought.

    Fortunately, this is a site where there is a great deal degree of respect offered, combined with humorous needling.

    It is interesting to note that during recent times both Miglo and Min have commented here, and were treated with far more consideration and deference than either reb or I experienced at their site!

    People here have a greater sense of inclusiveness and value diversity.

    Interesting you bring up the subject of wine. Mrs Jaws ad a white quaffer quite like villa Maria Sauvignon blanc which retails at uncle Dan Murphy’s at around the $14 mark sometimes $13 . I usually but it in lots of 6 at a time.

    Imagine my delight this afternoon when I googled it and found someone selling the exact same 2011 wine for $9.95.

    It was a bottle shop in New York.

    Thankfully she was in no pain. Unfortunately there is no cure for being really, really old. Blind, deaf, weak & ailing.

    She had a wonderful life with you toiletboss, and she was well loved. I’m sure her last days and hours were happy and contented ones at the only place she wanted to be, right by your side. She must have been a great little companion and personality. Have you buried her at your home?

    Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury states today that the GST will be charged on top of the Carbon Tax.

    Climate Change Secretary Mark Dreyfuss states today that the GST will NOT be charged on top of the Carbon Tax.

    Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury and Climate Change Minister Greg Combet declare jointly that …..”The GST does not apply to the carbon price, it applies to the supply of goods and services.”

    Meanwhile in the Real World, a World where hundreds of millions of dollars worth of invoicing software applies the GST as the last add on for invoices………..

    “………NSW electricity companies also confirmed the 10 per cent GST would be applied to power bills after the carbon tax had been added………………”

    Seriously……to say these people are fucking idiots is an insult to the intelligence of fucking idiots

    And before anyone jumps on and says change the software well that’s well and good but the cost of that will be passed on in higher prices plus the Carbon Tax gets scrapped for an ETS in 3 years.

    So it would be a waste of money.

    I suppose the definition of a “non troll” then is someone who continues to argue without a clear position, who has no philosophical basis for their opinion, allowing it to change at a whim, or according to the latest political manoeuvring.

    It’s been finished for a while, TB.

    They’ve begun filming Season 3 in the last couple of weeks.

    I can’t recommend the books highly enough. Waaaay better than the TV adaption (which is excellent!).
