Gillard Govt to send Pregnant Women and Unaccompanied Children to Nauru

September 12, 2012

Women and children, including unaccompanied minors, will be sent to Nauru and Manus Island for processing under a new “get tough” approach aimed at sending a message to people smugglers that there will be no exemptions.

With the first batch of about 40 asylum seekers to be flown this week to Nauru, where a temporary tent city has been erected, the Immigration Minister, Chris Bowen, said he would not be issuing any blanket exemptions to people sent offshore because these would be exploited by the people smugglers.

In the past, when unaccompanied minors were exempted, people smugglers sent boatloads of minors, knowing they would be accepted. The minors would then act as ”anchors” and bring over family members.

Mr Bowen acknowledged the sensitivities involved with sending away woman and children and he will have the discretion to assess individual cases. But he said he was not going to issue a general exemption for anybody.

I’m sure that those so-called “left wing” Gillard supporters will be suitably outraged at this latest pronouncement.

Joolya`s regime seem to be hell bent on being a carbon-copy of the John_W_Howard regime. The differences are becoming so subtle. At this rate, I suspect the 2013 national poll is going to be as shit as the 2010 national poll was.

All is not as it would seem. Tom R will be by presently to carry out his duty as a Gillard apologist explain. 😉

Seriously though, isn’t this what the government’s hand-picked panel of “experts” recommended?

Seriously, I don’t mean to beat a dead horse here but if you don’t support a tough policy you are simply an open borders advocate…End of story…Clearly the warm and fuzzy is not going to work…Pull factors, oh my…

    This is a disgraceful government.

Poll driven policy made on the run, it’s adrift.

The idea of punishing the vulnerable to deter other vulnerable people is morally bankrupt, which is exactly the standard we’ve come to expect from Gillard and her cabinet of union hacks and party time servers.

Only the most ardent admirer could continue to refer negatively to the Howard way & still spruik the benefits of the Howrad way mk2 Current scheme.

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
