So I got my blood test results back from the Doctor yesterday. Apparently my blood pressure is normal, my kidneys are lovely and wait for it, my liver is in perfect health..
This, while I had thought that my liver had been sending me SOS messages for the last 20 years!
Apparently my cholesterol is high though. Too much pasta, rice and potatoes.
“But that’s everything we eat!” I replied…….
At least I can now live on a diet of red, apparently….
Off to see my
quadoc tomorrow and my spec sellers (we used to call them optometrist, I think) …I got my new glasses on Saturday … refused them … like looking through magnifying glasses mid range and blurry as hell on the long distance (back to front – perhaps …) … reading OK … any way another trip …
My regular check up with my doc, St John (pronounced, sinjen) will not be pleasant … after three months I have only lost three kgs … (actually lost five but crept back up) … two weeks in Tassie probably didn’t help … but I have faithfully given up salt, increased my regular 20 minute walk to an hour … reduced my alcohol intake (you may have noticed I now drink 11% white wine instead of 86% proof bourbon!) …
I’m pissed off (put in the effort for nil results) but I reckon he might be more po’d … look out for the “off alcohol” command …
I’ve read this before but worth another laugh … (just into my email in box) Apologies for the upper case …
Get Bassmati rice, wholemeal pasta, and sweet potatoes reb.
The pasta is the worst of the three.
Reb, you probably left bread off your list. Switch to Rye.
I suppose, Rye, is a member of your cow committee?
Nah TB .. Sour-dough/rye bread. Reb was talking about `carbs` in his diet, I dropped the stuff on here, a relative of mine was told to replace the carbs with. The rice and sweet potatoe are `eat all you want`.
Galactic Nooze
I’ve just completed a meal with red at the local Italian place.
My health seems robust enough, mainly due to the fact that I only drink good bottled red.
Queenslanders should note

John Howard on our relationship with China…sensible and accurate.
”I find it difficult to accept that growing economic liberalism will continue to walk hand in hand with political authoritarianism,” he said.
”The first newly enriched generation may accept authority but their children will take affluence for granted and demand more say in running their own lives.”

Thanks 730…
I’ll try the wholemeal pasta. We already eat basmati rice and rye bread. I need to eat more fruit and leafy green vegetables apparently.
Have “you lot” seen the price of tomatoes lately? $12 a kilo for those tasteless things they dub “gourmet tomatoes.”
We’re also meant to eat three pieces of fruit a day. Like that’s going to happen.
I didn’t know you were on a diet TB….
Poor you reduced to white wine instead of your favoured WT….
White wine is also full of sugar by the way…
sreb
I’m not … and never will diet … silly approach IMO …
(I don’t eat as much these days anyway … I actually disappointed a friend, and his missus, last weekend … he had cooked us a lovely dinner … I left half the steak … ate all the veges … he not a happy chappie {really good cook too}… fancy apologising for not eating too much?)
WWvWT … I know … but not as much (apparently) …

This is a good read from Tim Dunlop on the Alan Jones saga and related musings….
http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/4292690.html
He nailed it with this:
The name of the anti-Murdoch commenter who emphatically declared the Australian branch of News was about to come tumbling down in the wake of the NOTW crisis has just occurred to me: RAY HUNT
Anyone watch the Presidential debate? Anyone still think Obama can’t speak without a teleprompter?
can’tcan😯
“.read from Tim Dunlop on the Alan Jones saga.”

Yeah, its okay. I noticed Dunlop`s post seem to follow the blogger-verse on these type of things. .. Gruen seemed to spell out some good points too. .. Tho as I have said before, Jones will be sin-binned a little, then enriched much more.
“To save the dogma of single currency, they are imposing absurd hyper-austerity on France,” said Marine Le Pen from the National Front, France’s unlikely apostle of Keynesian doctrine.
‘France now joins Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, and parts of Eastern Europe in synchronized tightening, with the Netherlands and Belgium cutting too, all dragging each other down in a 1930s slide into the political swamp.’

“Anyone watch the Presidential debate?”
Yes, I did. As soneone said on twitter, both men went into the debate with low expectations but only Obama lived up to them….
Obama just waffled and failed to make any concise points at all. In fact, at some points it seemed like he was actually agreeing with Mitt.
I notice on one blog that they’re declaring it a win for Obama.
Meanwhile “the rest if the world” admits it was a win for Mitt.
I don’t think Obama will make the same mistake next time….

Didn’t he go around thumping people and getting young ladies in the family way and pissing off …
Hilarity!
‘Didn’t he go around thumping people and getting young ladies in the family way and pissing off’
The facts suggest otherwise, but its interesting and predictable that Nooze is coming to the monk’s aid.
“I am the tough one in the family. He is the soft touch and as a result he has a wonderful relationship with the girls which sometimes I am a little envious of,” Margie Abbott said.
This should get him a boost in the polls, which he sorely needs.
I wouldn’t count on it egg.
‘The latest Newspoll analysis of surveys taken between July and September, conducted exclusively for The Australian, reveals just 29 per cent of female voters are satisfied with his performance compared with 34 per cent of men. Julia Gillard also faces a gender imbalance, with just 27 per cent of men satisfied with her performance compared with 32 per cent of women. The polling also shows Labor no longer faces an electoral wipeout in Queensland, but would lose at the next election based on swing seats in the Sunshine State and NSW alone.’

You mean it was fake Barack? Looks like the Yanks are copying Australian tactics!
There was an Australian-sounding perfesser from Stanford University on ABC radio just now saying he thought Obama won the debate. 😯
Tom R?
He said Australian sounding
I’m from SA 😉
It was Simon Jackman.
http://jackman.stanford.edu/blog/?p=2556
(The ABC collective don’t even try to hide their bias. Their regular commentator on US politics is E.J.Dionne, who is a self-confessed “liberal” and as pro-Obama as they come. Imagine the uproar from the inner-city ‘elites’ if they had on someone like Charles Krauthammer instead – also a columnist for a major newspaper but a staunch critic of Obama.)
You should meet that guy Tom R. You would probably see eye to eye on many things (in a one-eyed sort of way). 🙂
BTW which SA rugby team do you support? I’m a Bulls fan myself.
SA has rugby?
We have devolved.
Actually, I did play a game once in me youth (union), got abused for going for a specky lol
I played a season at school but didn’t understand the rules at the time. I enjoy watching it now. Abbott was a good player in his time, and a good boxer too.
and a good boxer too.
Tyson was a good boxer too. Not voting for him either 😉
Given the outpouring of grief in Melbourne about the rape and murder of Jill Meagher, it’s time to get off the politicised cycle that only seems to debate longer, tougher gaol sentences.
Women actually need protection from rapists and murders. The worst crimes are committed by recidivists.
Without discussing the current prosecution, look at Peter Dupas. He was a serial offender who should never have been able to continue raping and murdering women, he should have still been locked up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Dupas
• Tracking rapists is in the public interest, so it’s reasonable to use tracking devices.
• Any convicted rapist should be required to wear a tracking device for 10 years after their release from prison.
• Set up a 24 hour control centre that tracks them.
• Impose a curfew, which can be lifted with the specific prior approval of the control centre.
• Specific tracking when permission is provided outside curfew.
• Require a detailed log book of daily activities and associates, checked each month.
Thank you for your attention.
(tracking devices may be preferable to the “indefinite detention’ imposed on genuine refugees that don’t get a security clearance to)
Abbott never got knocked out in the ring, but the rusted ons say they were softies.
Wonder how much a tracking device and manned tracking centre costs … cmpared to setting up and manning a detention centre … I reckon I could “guess” the answer right now … James, would “know” he “believes” a lot of stuff … 😆
The conservatards rubbish Obama’s debating.
How surprisement.
That man bolt did it first, went in harder & wasn’t afraid to be a fawning elephant humper.

Didn’t i say earlier that he thumped people … and you said … The facts suggest otherwise
“The conservatards rubbish Obama’s debating.
How surprisement.
That man bolt did it first, went in harder & wasn’t afraid to be a fawning elephant humper.”
They weren’t alone. See the comments of Bill Maher, Michael Moore, Andrew Sullivan and Chris Matthews I posted above. it would be more correct to say that a few rusted-ons (and Michelle) didn’t criticise Obama’s debating.
“The conservatards rubbish Obama’s debating”
You didn’t see the “debate”, then?
‘Didn’t i say earlier that he thumped people … ‘
Oh yeah, so you did.
I don’t think it’s just the conservatives, Toilet.
Agreed sancty. I’d hardly call myself a conservative but I thought Obama’s performance was lame….
I didn’t see it. Dora the Explorer took precedence last night. Just going on Twitter and when even the Left can’t spin a win for Obama, you know he got flogged.
“You didn’t see the “debate”, then?”
Nerp.
Been busy.
Have just read some reactions to it. 😉
I like to post a bit of mindless antagonism every now & again.
Thing is. The elephant humpers would’ve been calling it for Joseph Smith’s Man, no matter how the commie muslim had performed.
I’m so jaded I can’t even find the benefit of the doubt anymore😆I watched it….
It was an endurance test…
Mostly because it was INCREDIBLY BORING!
Both men were polite and courteous…
As much as I hate Mitt and everything that he stands for, he was well-prepared, articulate and made some clear points.
Obama on the other hand just seemed to waffle and hardly made any, if any, clear and concise points..
AsI mentioned yesterday, I doubt he’ll make the same mistake again….
Don’t forget…HE STOOD IN A FASHION UNSUPPORTED BY BOLT & ASSORTED OTHER NUTJOB RALLYING SITES!!! 😯
* Held his leg in the wrong position or somesuch. Not exactly sure what in tarnation they’re on about; having not witnessed it with my own eyeballs. Classic rightard wishful projection, whether he was a flop in the debate or not (and I accept, second hand, that he was).
The result of the upcoming US election is of interest.
Which side will agitate enough of its base to get its man over the line?!
Line ball, I’d have thought, at this point. In spite of the ridiculous anti-Obama fucktardery campaign which has been underway since before it looked like he might dethrone Bush.
Chael Sonnen is a Republican with a big mouth & cojones…but he should polish his technique before he ridicules a Brazilian again. 😆
I must say I haven’t much followed it. I really find the whole American Presidential elections offensive. I understood Obama to be well ahead.
I agree, James … and one “debate” (?) doth not an election make!

”‘I like to post a bit of mindless antagonism every now & again.’
You should be ashamed of yourself.
From Splatterbottom’s list above: Max Easton (Who the fuck is Max Easton?) referring to Nick Cave’s The Boatman’s Call: “While there’s no doubting the record’s understated beauty, it’s more the fact that this (and not one of his other fucked up masterpieces) is one of Cave’s most lasting impressions on the bulk Australian musical psyche that’s unsettling. After all, no one likes it when the short fused psycho at the party falls in love and goes home.”
Amen to that. 😯
From the same list: Edward Sharp-Paul (WTF is ES-P?): “The Velvet Underground and Nico was a truly novel album. At its heart was the band’s much-mythologised odd couple: The street-wise, swaggering Lou Reed and the esoteric, studious John Cale. When the two met halfway, the results were stunning. ‘Venus In Furs’ and the towering ‘Heroin’ opened the sort of doors that Jim Morrison had merely puked on.”
Nice.
ES-P again, on The White Album: “Anyone that identifies as a “John Lennon guy” ought to remember that they are pledging allegiance to someone that used the most anticipated album of all time as an opportunity to impress his cool new girlfriend with some pseudo-avant garde shit. ‘Revolution #9’ is the sound of an illusion shattering: Yes, The Beatles are human, and sometimes they drop almighty turds.”
Heh.
Collateral damage from the Jones Affair.

‘U.S. oil production surged last week to the highest level since January 1997, reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuels as new technology unlocks crude trapped in shale formations.
‘Crude output rose by 3.7 percent to 6.509 million barrels a day in the week ended Sept. 21, the Energy Department reported today. America met 83 percent of its energy needs in the first six months of the year, department data show. If the trend continues through 2012, it will be the highest level of self- sufficiency since 1991. Imports have declined 3.2 percent from the same period a year earlier.’

‘The White House today announced that it was offering a “substantial cash reward” for information leading to “the location and safe return of President Obama’s mojo.”
‘White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced the search with an air of urgency: “We will use every resource at our disposal to ensure the return of the President’s mojo, and that goes double for his groove.”
‘Mr. Carney said that as of late Wednesday afternoon no one at the White House knew the President’s mojo was missing, but minutes into last night’s televised debate “it became clear that something was terribly, horribly wrong.”’

Well if the abbott total family indulgement that was inflicted upon us by newsltd isn’t an example of organised and co-ordinated political campaigning on behalf of tony abbott I don’t know what is.
I think there’s more to come tomorrow as well, not sure I’ll be recovered enough from my nausea and vomiting to go looking for it.
At least mrs abbott steps up the sloganeering to six words, “surrounded by strong capable women” obviously more intelligent than her husband.

‘THE Australian Workers Union admitted it “didn’t want the carbon tax” in a letter sent to its members the day after the scheme started, despite publicly endorsing it as long as not one job was lost.
‘The letter reveals that the AWU leadership – which has been among Julia Gillard’s strongest backers – faced considerable unrest from its membership over the introduction of the carbon tax.’

“The most stable country in the history of mankind, and probably the most boring, by the way, is Switzerland. It’s not even a city-state environment; it’s a municipal state. Most decisions are made at the local level, which allows for distributed errors that don’t adversely affect the wider system. Meanwhile, people want a united Europe, more alignment, and look at the problems. The solution is right in the middle of Europe — Switzerland. It’s not united! It doesn’t have a Brussels! It doesn’t need one.”
