So I got my blood test results back from the Doctor yesterday. Apparently my blood pressure is normal, my kidneys are lovely and wait for it, my liver is in perfect health..

This, while I had thought that my liver had been sending me SOS messages for the last 20 years!

Apparently my cholesterol is high though. Too much pasta, rice and potatoes.

    “But that’s everything we eat!” I replied…….

At least I can now live on a diet of red, apparently….

Off to see my qua doc tomorrow and my spec sellers (we used to call them optometrist, I think) …

I got my new glasses on Saturday … refused them … like looking through magnifying glasses mid range and blurry as hell on the long distance (back to front – perhaps …) … reading OK … any way another trip …

My regular check up with my doc, St John (pronounced, sinjen) will not be pleasant … after three months I have only lost three kgs … (actually lost five but crept back up) … two weeks in Tassie probably didn’t help … but I have faithfully given up salt, increased my regular 20 minute walk to an hour … reduced my alcohol intake (you may have noticed I now drink 11% white wine instead of 86% proof bourbon!) …

I’m pissed off (put in the effort for nil results) but I reckon he might be more po’d … look out for the “off alcohol” command …

I’ve read this before but worth another laugh … (just into my email in box) Apologies for the upper case …

FOLLOWING THE ANNOUNCMENT OF THE DEATH OF NEIL ARMSTRONG THIS WEEK, THIS LITTLE BIT OF TRIVIA IS QUITE INTERESTING.ON JULY 20, 1969, AS COMMANDER OF THE APOLLO 11 LUNAR MODULE, NEIL ARMSTRONG WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO SET FOOT ON THE MOON.

HIS FIRST WORDS AFTER STEPPING ON THE MOON, “THAT’S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN,ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND,” WERE TELEVISED TO EARTH AND HEARD BY MILLIONS.*BUT JUST BEFORE HE RE-ENTERED THE LANDER, HE MADE THE ENIGMATIC REMARK -“GOOD LUCK, MR. GORSKY”.MANY PEOPLE AT NASA THOUGHT IT WAS A CASUAL REMARK CONCERNING SOME RIVAL
SOVIET COSMONAUT. HOWEVER, UPON CHECKING, THERE WAS NO GORSKY IN EITHER THE RUSSIAN OR AMERICAN SPACE PROGRAMS.

OVER THE YEARS, MANY PEOPLE QUESTIONED ARMSTRONG AS TO WHAT THE – ‘GOOD LUCK, MR. GORSKY’ STATEMENT MEANT, BUT ARMSTRONG ALWAYS JUST SMILED.ON JULY 5, 1995, IN TAMPA BAY , FLORIDA , WHILE ANSWERING QUESTIONS
FOLLOWING A SPEECH, A REPORTER BROUGHT UP THE 26-YEAR-OLD QUESTION TO ARMSTRONG. THIS TIME HE FINALLY RESPONDED. MR. GORSKY HAD DIED, SO NEIL ARMSTRONG FELT HE COULD NOW ANSWER THE QUESTION.

IN 1938, WHEN HE WAS A KID IN A SMALL MID-WESTERN TOWN , HE WAS PLAYING BASEBALL WITH A FRIEND IN THE BACKYARD. HIS FRIEND HIT THE BALL, WHICH LANDED IN HIS NEIGHBOR’S YARD BY THEIR BEDROOM WINDOW.
HIS NEIGHBORS WERE MR AND MRS GORSKY. AS HE LEANED DOWN TO PICK UP THE BALL, YOUNG ARMSTRONG HEARD MRS. GORSKY SHOUTING AT MR. GORSKY, “SEX! YOU WANT SEX?! YOU’LL GET SEX WHEN THE KID NEXT DOOR WALKS ON THE MOON !”

TRUE STORY. It broke the place up.

    “Anyone watch the Presidential debate?”

Yes, I did. As soneone said on twitter, both men went into the debate with low expectations but only Obama lived up to them….

Obama just waffled and failed to make any concise points at all. In fact, at some points it seemed like he was actually agreeing with Mitt.

I notice on one blog that they’re declaring it a win for Obama.

Meanwhile “the rest if the world” admits it was a win for Mitt.

I don’t think Obama will make the same mistake next time….

“This is what happens when u pick John Kerry as your debate coach.”

    Dennis Miller:

“Obama says “and, and, and” just like Dustin Hoffman coming down the stairs at the end of “Tootsie”. He’s making it up and its not working.”

    Andrew Sullivan:

“Look: you know how much I love the guy, and you know how much of a high information viewer I am, and I can see the logic of some of Obama’s meandering, weak, professorial arguments. But this was a disaster for the president for the key people he needs to reach, and his effete, wonkish lectures may have jolted a lot of independents into giving Romney a second look.

Obama looked tired, even bored; he kept looking down; he had no crisp statements of passion or argument; he wasn’t there. He was entirely defensive, which may have been the strategy. But it was the wrong strategy. At the wrong moment.

The person with authority on that stage was Romney – offered it by one of the lamest moderators ever, and seized with relish. This was Romney the salesman. And my gut tells me he sold a few voters on a change tonight. It’s beyond depressing. But it’s true.”

Even Chris Matthews didn’t feel the thrill running down his leg this time:

“What was Romney doing tonight?” Matthews shouted, “He was winning! If he does five more of these nights, forget it! That’s my thought.”

Matthews also suggested that a debate between MSNBC and Mitt Romney wouldn’t go so well for the GOP hopeful:

“We have our knives out. We go after the people and the facts,” heartbroken Chris Matthews claimed. “What was [Obama] doing tonight? He went in there disarmed!”

Matthews must be turning conservative because we all know that only conservatives us violent imagery in political discourse!

Given the outpouring of grief in Melbourne about the rape and murder of Jill Meagher, it’s time to get off the politicised cycle that only seems to debate longer, tougher gaol sentences.

Women actually need protection from rapists and murders. The worst crimes are committed by recidivists.

Without discussing the current prosecution, look at Peter Dupas. He was a serial offender who should never have been able to continue raping and murdering women, he should have still been locked up.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Dupas

    • Tracking rapists is in the public interest, so it’s reasonable to use tracking devices.
    • Any convicted rapist should be required to wear a tracking device for 10 years after their release from prison.
    • Set up a 24 hour control centre that tracks them.
    • Impose a curfew, which can be lifted with the specific prior approval of the control centre.
    • Specific tracking when permission is provided outside curfew.
    • Require a detailed log book of daily activities and associates, checked each month.

    Thank you for your attention.

(tracking devices may be preferable to the “indefinite detention’ imposed on genuine refugees that don’t get a security clearance to)

At its heart was the band’s much-mythologised odd couple: The street-wise, swaggering Lou Reed and the esoteric, studious John Cale. Good Caiaphas, the council waits for you.
The Pharisees and priests are here for you.

    CAIAPHAS

Ah gentlemen, you know why we are here.
We’ve not much time, and quite a problem here

    MOB (outside)

    Hosanna! Superstar!
    Hosanna! Superstar!
    Hosanna! Superstar!
    Hosanna! Superstar!

    ANNAS

Listen to that howling mob of blockheads in the street!
A trick or two with lepers, and the whole town’s on its feet.

    ALL (inside)

    He is dangerous!

    MOB (outside)

    Jesus Christ Superstar!

    ALL (inside)

    He is dangerous!

    MOB (outside)

Tell us that you’re who they say you are.

    PRIEST TWO

The man is in town right now to whip up some support.

    PRIEST THREE

A rabble rousing mission that I think we must abort.

    ALL (inside)

    He is dangerous!

    MOB (outside)

    Jesus Christ Superstar!

    ALL (inside)

    He is dangerous!

    PRIEST TWO

Look Caiaphas, they’re right outside our yard.

    PRIEST THREE

Quick Caiaphas, go call the Roman guard.

    CAIAPHAS

    No, wait!
We need a more permanent solution to our problem.

    ANNAS

What then to do about Jesus of Nazareth?
    Miracle wonderman, hero of fools.

    PRIEST THREE

No riots, no army, no fighting, no slogans.

    CAIAPHAS

One thing I’ll say for him — Jesus is cool.

    ANNAS

We dare not leave him to his own devices.
His half-witted fans will get out of control.

    PRIESTS

But how can we stop him?
    His glamour increases
By leaps every moment; he’s top of the poll.

    CAIAPHAS

    I see bad things arising.
The crowd crown him king; which the Romans would ban.
    I see blood and destruction,
Our elimination because of one man.
Blood and destruction because of one man.

    ALL (inside)

Because, because, because of one man.

    CAIAPHAS

Our elimination because of one man.

    ALL (inside)

Because, because, because of one, ’cause of one, ’cause of one man.

    PRIEST THREE

What then to do about this Jesus-mania?

    ANNAS

Now how to we deal with a carpenter king?

    PRIESTS

Where do we start with a man who is bigger
Than John was when John did his baptism thing?

    CAIAPHAS

    Fools, you have no perception!
The stake we are gambling are frighteningly high!
    We must crush him completely,
So like John before him, this Jesus must die.
For the sake of the nation, this Jesus must die.

    ALL (inside)

Must die, must die, this Jesus must die.

    CAIAPHAS

So like John before him, this Jesus must die.

    ALL (inside)

Must die, must die, this Jesus must, Jesus must, Jesus must die!
