Joe Hockey denies Existence of Offensive Menu!

June 12, 2013

menu-1

Guests at a a Liberal Party fundraising dinner where shadow treasurer Joe Hockey was the guest of honour, were served a menu of “Julia Gillard quail” with “small breasts, huge thighs and a big red box”.

The fundraiser was held in Brisbane in March for Liberal National Party candidate Mal Brough who has since apologised for the menu admitting it was “sexist.”

The menu began circulating on social media websites earlier today.

Despite being the guest of honour at the event, Joe Hockey issued a carefully worded tweet saying he was not aware of the “offensive” menu’s existence.

“I don’t recall ever seeing any such menu.”

“It is offensive and inappropriate whenever it was put out and it is now,” he wrote.

It was first posted by a Brisbane chef who claimed he used to work at the unnamed restaurant and a staff member who was catering the dinner had taken a photo of the menu.

It also included “Rudd’s a Goose Foie Gras” and instructed guests to eat up all their greens “before they take over”.

Nice.

Pretty fuckin’ stoopid of Mal Brough. The “Small Breasts Huge Thighs and Red Box” is a bit reminiscent of the Peter Slipper female anatomy tweets.

What is it with Queenslanders and these “pre-occupations” ?

    Aren’t they getting “any” ?

Even more hilarious & stupid that they’ve now been caught out red handed & are pretending not to remember.

Love Ross Sharp talking about “class”.

I think Julie Bishop was getting on a plane when she was interviewed this morning so we might give her a chance to land and hear about it?

The bloke who leaked this knew about it in March. Seems odd to raise it 3 months later.

Someone will get sacked. And rightly so. Not sure though that the mere attendance at one of these functions necessarily renders the attendees guilty of similar thoughts as that expressed in the menu.

  13. June 12, 2013 1:29 pm

Noone seems to have a sense of humour anymore.

I accept that plenty of people won’t/can’t see the humour in it; it is deliberately offensive & nasty partisan comedy, after all. But, what kind of world is it where there is perpetual outrage because we all can’t/don’t laugh at the same things.

The histrionics, which are sure to follow in contemporary media, are likely to match Ape-gate.

Noone got killed or maimed, possibly some feelings get hurt. Words. Cup-O-Concrete.

  14. June 12, 2013 1:30 pm

Maybe they will bring Roxon back to reintroduce her every thing you say or do will be an offence, and you will be sent to jail. I know Gillard is PM and should be treated with respect, and I think brough is an idiot, but FFS, is it illegal to have a sense of humor these days. I must be really sick, being a girl and having a sense of humor, but what is even more sick is having a PM that’s all for education, but has such little respect that she has two kiddies chucked out of school.

  19. June 12, 2013 1:42 pm

I can see why it will shit a lot of people, particularly females. It is not the type of joke I would make, certainly. But, I hear far worse most days of the week & the intent isn’t usually malicious.

It does add to the public perception that Abbott has done a lot of syrupy PR work trying to negate. ie. he looks down his nose at women.
Frankly, we all know that his 1950’s view of the world is what you’d expect from a lot of those uptight Coalition dickheads; it’s not a huge surprise. They were pretty dumb to make hard copy evidence of it. 🙄
No doubt, especially due to the reopening of the gender war by the PM yesterday, the ALP will squeal about this for all they’re worth. Along with the media, who I’m supposed to believe are always at odds with the ALP.

But, at the end of the day, it was comedy in poor taste, not a death threat.

Then comes the exquisite relief as they unload their warm juices, and their inner rottenness, upon the sinner who bears away their shame and makes them whole again. Back in the good old days it was called- stupid, childish, poor taste, humourless…now it’s apparently misogynist.

I imagine the menu was written by someone hoping to get a laugh out of the attendees, rather than the organisers themselves. If it was one of the organisers, particularly if Brough knew about it, he should be disendorsed for stupidity.

I’m kind of sympathetic. I run a lunch every Grand Final Friday for our footy club and at the first one the level of humour by a couple of the speakers, thinking that a “footy club” audience would find it funny, was particularly ordinary. I was mortified, but I hadn’t written the gags.

I didn’t cancel the lunch or stage a walk out but I did have words with the gents involved.

Even the “harmless” gags on the menu aren’t particularly funny, let alone the KFC one.

Basically if you can’t be funny without being offensive, give up trying to be funny.

“Julia Gillard “Deficit” Quail……… Bigger than you’d expect?”

Ok, not that funny but funnier than the KFC gag, and less offensive.

Problem is, everyone has a different threshold of offense.

Sometimes, ignoring that which offends us is the most prudent course of response.

    Grow a thicker skin.

    Harden the fuck up.

Imposing one’s standards upon the rest of the population, in so far as what is acceptable discourse or not, is arrogant & doomed to fail.

Tolerance doesn’t mean you have to like it, or that you can’t retort in kind. It is being aware & accepting that we’re not all generic copies of eachother.

In private company yes, same as i’ve laughed at female jokes, there’s funny and there’s nasty/offensive. I am always aware of the inherent sexism in the ‘jokes’.

That menu was at a public event for a publicly funded political party. The gillard description isn’t funny either, nor a joke, it was deliberately offensive and sexist. Were the males in the menu described in the same offensively sexist manner as gillard?

if you think this is just innocent humour then you really are an apologist for the testosterone charged politics and behaviour that the public is completely fed up with.

Spare us the broad sexism crap, Kittylitter. No one person has ever sought to create divisions amongst the Australian community as that incompetent Prime Minister we have at the moment. She is contemptible the depths to which she is prepared to stoop to cling on to power, a power she and her Ministers have so often abused. Leaders unite.

I’ve said my piece on the menu. It doesn’t bear comparison to the disgrace of the blue tie speech, or the “fighting Tories” campaign, or the misogyny speech, and she has herself dished off personal insults to plenty of Opposition ministers. She’s called Hockey fat, she’s called Pyne a “mincing poodle”. These are equally as insulting as anything thrown at her. And of course there was that big fat Greek bullshitartist. Racist to boot.

I really hope she isn’t replaced as leader. I hope she’s there on 14 September when the collective Australian constiuency tells her in no uncertain terms just what a despicable person they think she is.

I’m sorry if I don’t want to hate my fellow countrymen the way you and Gillard want me to, Kittylitter, but there it is. I don’t. To the rich, good luck. To each his own. To the poor, if I can help, please tell me how. To blokes who want to love each other, I don’t get it, but good luck to you, to girls who want to love each other, the same.To my wife, who happens to be a female, I’m married to you because I find you endlessly interesting (amongst other things not fit for this blog), I’m grateful that you do most of the cooking because you are far better at it than I and I understand that you appreciate my equal contributions in other areas. To the Aborigines, it’s shitty what our ancestors did collectively to yours, my Irish and Italian ancestors were treated pretty poorly too, but how about we let it go and work out a way that we can all get along and prosper?

    huh…what does that even mean?
What are you trying to imply? Are you even female, I have serious doubts.

Abortion is a very legitimate debate especially with the mad monk in charge. I don’t think women should have a lot of trust that abbott’s tea party fundy’s wouldn’t try to change things by legislation or stealth. They keep harping back to ‘the howard glory days’ as if that is the benchmark for australian politics. Well as soon as howard got in he de-funded every women’s group/advisory body to non-existence. Then there was the RU486 fiasco where he tried to keep ministerial control over the drug [and medical abortion as opposed to surgical abortion] and then bullied the drug companies into not marketing the drug. After abbott lost the control of RU486 he then acted against the interests of women seeking abortion by funding church/pro-life groups to provide abortion ‘counselling’.

Howard deserved housebricks wrapped in barbwire. Or a piano. Or a safe. Or an anvil.

Besides, his goons made sure that howard never got within a cooee of a sandwich, howard never let the general public or a protester anywhere near. They were kept well corralled and out of sight and earshot. No unscripted walking amongst the riff raff for howard or even abbott, whose every public appearance is carefully controlled and stage managed. They don’t like to take a risk with the general public.

A DOG toy called “Droolia Julia” with red hair and oversized breasts being sold in Adelaide shows we still can’t deal with female leaders, feminist and author Leslie Cannold says…
…Dr Cannold said the world struggled with female leaders who were “trailblazers … suffering on our behalf” and that male leaders were not subjected to the same “vicious ridicule” over their appearance.
“It’s hard to look at the dog toy and not think that the person on whom it’s based is not an object of ridicule,” she said…

My point re abortion is, every one can be offended by different things, you seem to be quite happy to dish out copious insults and offensive remarks yourself, in fact I don’t think I have ever heard you say anything nice about anybody. That’s just my opinion and I’m entitled to it apparently, as you are too. I really don’t mean this to be offensive, but you come across as being quite aggressive for a greenie.

Martin Ferguson (retiring anyway) and perhaps Simon Crean and Ed Husic (a western Sydney MP certain to lose his seat with Gillard as PM) need to front a press conference and put the case that it is in the ALP’s best interest to remain as strong as it can should it lose the election and to do that it must have a leader capable of putting together a winning campaign.

Their argument must be that MPs including those perceived to be factional leaders (read Billy Boy) must put their personal interests aside and put what is best for the party front and centre.

just reeks of cover-up doesn’t it?

    A few telling points:

-The restauranter has apologised to the libs for the embarrassment but has not been able to find it in himself to apologise to the PM, the person that has been publicly denigrated & ridiculed in all of this. That sounds like real hate to me, not an unfunny ‘joke’, straight out nasty sexism, ‘larrykin’ pickering style.

-the chef who knows the owner & son says he would be very surprised if the menu wasn’t on the tables.
-tony abbott just can’t be arsed checking his diary to see where he was and what he was doing on the day in question [and no-one in media can be bothered doing anything other than accept his words at face value].
    – brough silenced and yanked real quick, told to not say another word, then everyone hunkered down at lib HQ, desperately seeking saviour until story sorted.

    – as said in IA, the story doesn’t add up:

…So. at midday, Brough was aware that the menu had been drawn up by a non-party member, who was now deeply apologetic.
But wait … how could Brough have known this, if Richards didn’t contact him until later in the day?
Remember, Richards didn’t write his letter to Brough until after seeing the story on the evening news.

Now abbott and brough have finally got their stories memorised and aligned and are out hosing it all down with brough now the epitome of decency – BS *retch*

Another free pass for the libs. it’s all really easy when you have the backing of a campaigning media who let you off the hook every single time.

I wasn’t impressed by gillards speech either, but apparently the bits we heard in the press made it appear worse than it was when viewed in it’s entirety.

Labor has been abysmal in getting their messages and achievements out to the electorate and union scandals along with some nasty policies [AS, single mothers] haven’t helped but people forget that abbott’s mob plans to do worse.
For PM material such as true grit and performance, gillard runs rings around abbott by every measure.

Also I won’t feel pressured into handing over hard earned money with these charities out side supermarket entries also begging for money for the old folks home, help for the deaf, ladies hospital auxcillary. Yes it would be much easier handing over extra tax, maybe the volunteer charity workers could also earn a wage, then in turn, pay tax, which would help charities and so the cycle continues.

It is rubbish to suggest that govt exists only to support business interests [your undemocratic neoliberal fascist corporocracy utopia]. A SHOCKING UPDATE: THE MENU WAS MADE PUBLIC !!!

“This morning Dave Carter, a former employee at the restaurant, said he doubted the menu hadn’t been shared around at the event.

The Herald Sun reports he says he had little doubt “that Joe would have shown everyone there. Normally at these functions there is some kind of a joke, some kind of a gag and Joe Richards is the type of person that makes sure everyone sees it and everyone knows about it.”

The abortion issue is nowhere near where it should be. Saw the best article I have ever seen on the issue, why australian women should be fearful of political influences and the total ignorance of the electorate.
Welcome to the guardian, finally some sensible reporting on the facts not the false debate that the voters are spoon fed.

Gillard shouldn’t use abortion as a US-style wedge issue:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/jun/13/gillard-abbott-abortion-australia

…To build and protect the best reproductive rights framework for Australian women, the Gillard government could have introduced uniform, national legislation on abortion, something the Australian Medical Association called for back in 2005. They could have tackled medical practitioners who force women to go doctor-shopping based on a literal reading of the AMA’s policy position to “inform” patients that abortions may be available elsewhere, rather than “refer” patients to doctors who will perform abortions. They could have done so by removing the conscience vote from the federal parliamentary caucus. After all, the party’s 2011 national platform states that Labor will support the rights of women to determine their own reproductive lives, particularly the right to choose appropriate fertility control and abortion, and ensure that these choices are on the basis of sound social and medical advice…

By the looks of his Twitter account he’s hardly unbiased when he compares
Voting for Abbott because you dont like Gillard

So what, the truth is not negated or discounted because of political opinion. If I don’t like carrots doesn’t mean that they have no nutritional value.

Thanks Reb, have only had a quick look, I think one would have to be very gentle with them so as not to offend them. Then, I had a truly evil thought, but, no, I will not be nasty.

“Then, I had a truly evil thought, but, no, I will not be nasty.”

    Feel free to be Hummmph.

CW is almost exclusively for arseholes who each day gather around in one gigantic circle jerk which becomes a gigantic bukkake event dedicated to certain individuals who enjoy a warm shower of whatever they can get. They just crave attention.

Few of us can stomach the joint and most of us are banned anyway.

Not that we give a flying rats anyway

Probably worth letting Hummmph know that anything written here is under surveilance from there.

Erin is baiting Min at that place, ban me if you will, so if he disappears you can be sure the power of two clicks has worked its magic once again.

  238. June 14, 2013 3:16 pm

Definitely not afraid. Not too many able enough of mind or body to be seriously threatening.

Just be aware, that if you’re going there, anything you’ve said here has probably been duly noted by them. You’re likely to run into accusations of trolling; it’s their equivalent of, having been confronted by contrarianism, sticking their fingers in their ears & going NUNUNUNUNUNU…

Hilarious! YomM (again, thanks, TomR, with a 2nd from Adrian) & el gordo currently being blamed for being a new disagreeable visitor.

Don’t they realise that they haven’t met everyone on the blogosphere who’s inclined to argue with them yet. 🙄

Oh by the way Hummmph one more thing…………………

Despite guarantees of privacy the hypochondriac c*nt that runs a certain blog (he continually feigns illness to gain sympathy from his fellow arsehole followers) will be certain to publish your real world name if given a remote chance of identifying you.

Ask a few on this Blog if you like about their experiences.

Do not believe anything written in their Disclaimer. The site is built by a Bullshit artist for exclusive use of fellow bullshit artists who only tolerate dissenters in small doses.

If you must post there use multiple IPs and a fake email. If you go and post dont ever use an email address that can be traced back to you in the real world

“Don’t they realise that they haven’t met everyone on the blogosphere who’s inclined to argue with them yet”

I think they’re still struggling with the idea that the internet is a public space…

Although it is funny the way that Catching Up likes to set the rules for manners and etiquette for what she calls “the visitors” until such time as she finds them disagreeable..

The she just tells them to fuck off (if they haven’t already been banned by Patricia, Min or Miglo)…

  244. June 14, 2013 4:23 pm

In saying that, the Blogosphere would be a lesser place without teh cafe – they provide such huge entertainment value…… 😆

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
