At The Movies with The Gutter Trash

January 25, 2014

her-movie-poster

The Gutter Trash presents yet another instalment in our sporadic series of movie reviews especially designed for the attention span challenged.

her

In the not too distant future, lonely writer Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Pheonix) falls in love with his voice activated iPhone app (Scarlett Johansson) who sounds like she’s dying from emphysema. They go to the beach together and enjoy fun weekends away in the snow.  Then she dumps him.  The end.

I thought this was going to be a science fiction movie (which I would’ve enjoyed), but it wasn’t, so I hated it.

At 126 minutes it’s about two hours too long.

One and half stars.

*Spolier alert: This review may reveal key elements of the storyline.

By coincidence I’ve been working on a story board (for amusement) sf 2050 Sydney, a man falls in love with his android domestic.

Should have watched the trailer … some big clues … 🙄

We saw Jack Ryan: Shadow Agent last week … haven’t much time to comment apart from some silliness on another fred … and looking jewellery and looking at jewellery and …

    … but JR:SA …

Nice mix of Mission Impossible, Bourne and James Bond … actually works well good all round film from script to titles etc

    ★★★★

The Minister gave it an extra half …

A guy falls in love with his phone. That sounds like 75% of teenagers.

The story line must come from the 109 tram line.

Ain’t that the truth Tom 🙂

Inside Llewyn Davis well worth a watch, its the Coen Brothers doing a thinly veiled Dylaneske NYC folk scene around 62 ish. Nice cameo by John Goodman.
    3 1/2

Wolf of wall street..Scorsese just bringing out the best in Dicaprio as did Tarantino as did not Bazz Big Budget Bullshitter. Well written story of Jordan Belfort, pure excess and a wonderful script. Scorsese just nails this..
    4.5+++

American Hussle.. Just Go, its a killer script, Christian Bale is amazing and for mine one of the best films for 2013.
    4.5+

Walter Mitty.. Panned by the critics. Just loved this film. Its very left of centre for Hollywood and feels more like a cool arthouse film till you get a handle on the scale of it. Ben Stiller wrote , directed and stars in one of his best films to date. Its a pretty inspirational feel good movie that follows a theme of self awareness. Just beautifully shot and quite surrealist in parts. Anything with Sean Penn in it is generally a mark of quality, well except that stinker with Madonna when he had a raging Coke Habit 🙂
    4.5+++

Filth is pretty dark. If you liked the Guard, you will like it but it is very very trippy. I loved it . Revolves around a cop who is a mason suffering a nervous breakdown and losing his mind, whilst self medicating after a trauma. Glaswegian grey humor.
    3.5

The coast becomes quite crowded on Australia Day. The surf break has some extra people, who tend to get in the way of those of us that know what we’re doing (why can’t they f**k of to a beach break, where they’ll just collide with swimmers?)

The barbeque on the hill is being shared by some nice Indian families, and some bogans drinking heavily. The bogans are sporting both temporary and permanent tattoos of Our Flag.

My tip is- the bogans are more likely to require rescuing by the volunteer (budgie smuggler wearing) surf life savers. Bogans can probably swim when sober, but aren’t too good at it when pissed.

Perhaps I should arrange a game of cricket- bogans vs Indians. But the bogans would probably riot after a loss.

    Highly likely, ToM.

‘Tycoons from China have been told they cannot be among the space tourists because of anti-espionage regulations in the US, from where the British firm’s first commercial flights are due to take off later this year.

‘Ironically, the ban comes as Britain opens our doors to Chinese involvement in the nuclear and telecom industries and considers asking China to build the new high-speed rail network.

Huwai was built on stolen patents. All the companies that flood to China to set up manufacturing 24/4 swetties end up competing against the same companies they employ with copies of their own shit…Movies and music is no exception.

We need to get behind Xenophon’s bill in parliament, so that satirists have better material to work with.

‘On 14 November 2013, the Senate referred the Parliamentary Proceedings Broadcasting Amendment Bill 2013 to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report on the first sitting Wednesday in February 2014.’

This would make a great movie, or perhaps not.

NASA: “What’s there? Mission Control calling Apollo 11…”

APOLLO: “These ‘Babies’ are huge, Sir! Enormous! Oh my God! You wouldn’t believe it! I’m telling you there are other spacecraft out there, lined up on the far side of the crater edge! They’re on the Moon watching us!”

    American Hustle… 2 stars

American Hustler…4 stars…for having a sense of the absurd & not disappearing up its own conceited arse

  19. January 28, 2014 5:44 pm

American Hustle…an exercise in thinly veiled predictability…

  20. January 28, 2014 10:57 pm

I’m calling you out toilet, no way in hell you predicted that story unless you read the book… Christian Bale will win the academy award for his performance and it will win best screenplay. It is quite frankly the best screenplay of last year out of Hollywood. if you didn’t like it you have no taste and quality cinema is lost on you, Conceited? 🙄

Fuck me who’s seen this horror movie. You know the one where Abbott and Pell sacrifice a few alter boys and resurrect the corpse of BA Santamaria and the DLP…

You may notice that they talk about Ben Chifley and Evatt but no mention to Tyke Commo Calling god bothering Conservative and Abbotts Idol BA Santamaria.. More lying fraudulent bullshit. Who is behind this? who is pulling the strings on these puppets?

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
