How much of a Total Fuckwit is Joe Hildebrand?
Self-professed “journalist” and Telegraph opinionator Joe Hildebrand has found himself on the receiving end of a fiery rebuke from domestic violence survivor Rosie Batty on Channel Ten’s following a fiery exchange on Channel Ten’s Studio 10.
Ms Batty, whose son Luke was killed by his father at a Tyabb cricket field in February, slammed Hildebrand on Channel Ten’s Breakfast TV show on Wednesday after a discussion of proposed Victorian child abuse reporting laws.
The 11-year-old was killed by his father, Greg Anderson, after a cricket match in Melbourne in February. Anderson was then shot dead by police.
During the discussion, Hildebrand asserted that there was no excuse for not reporting child abuse and that family violence victims needed to be empowered to leave their partners.
Ms Batty was preparing to appear on the show and was listening through her headpiece when she heard the panel discussing the laws.
She said she was “horrified” by the views of the panel and in particular Joe Hildebrand’s ignorance of the issues surrounding domestic violence.
“Can you imagine me, having my child murdered, and them (talking about domestic violence) like that?
“If Luke hadn’t been murdered, I would possibly have to face going in front of a jury to see whether I should be put in prison for three years because my child experienced abuse.”
An enraged Batty addressed Hildebrand directly and said: “Do you know what happened to me? Greg had finally lost control of me and the final act of control, which was the most hideous form of violence, was to kill my son.
So don’t you ever think that if we don’t report it’s because we don’t want to. It’s because we are so scared about what might happen.”
Ms Batty blasted Hildebrand for his “misguided” comments about law changes which could make it a crime not to disclose a case of child abuse.
“I thought with Luke’s death something would come out of this that would actually show the difficulty women have in abusive relationships.”
During the panel discussion, Hildebrand had said: “Obviously you can’t help but feel a huge amount of sympathy for anyone who’s in an abusive relationship but … you have to get out, you absolutely have to get out.
“This is beyond my comprehension that again the woman who’s the victim is punished,” she said.
Today however, Hildebrand said that he stood by his view that partners should leave abusive relationships and that saying so was not “blaming the victim”.
“It is the role of every adult who is aware of children being sexually abused to blow the whistle on it; it is their job to raise the alarm,” he said.
Channel Ten executives were taken aback by the level of public outrage over Hildebrand’s comments and were forced to contend with a problem they’ve never encountered before; having an audience.

It’s kind of what he said, after being pulled back a lot. But even then, it only looked like him backing away from his initial statement, which was blaming victims, and he didn’t sound very convinced, it was like he just wanted it all to stop. Poor victim.
As to the measure of how much of a Total Fuckwit he is, he’s not up to the bolt or akers league yet, but given time, the skies the limit

In theory, joe is right.
Children should be protected from further abuse. But…and it’s a big but, it’s just not that easy, the women who leave must have serious protection, that is where it falls down.
It’s taken this long for police to even be serious about prosecuting DV. The women might leave but they are completely alone with a piece of paper [court order] supposedly to protect them. These men do not care about that and will hunt them down, it’s their life’s mission to traumatise their own family. Maybe it’s the men who should be taken away from society? These women already know what the partner is capable of and the fear of what will happen if they leave, keeps them in line and in the home, to protect their children.
Who do the kids have if mum is murdered and dad is in jail??

It took me 23 years to get my mother to leave my father … and just eight weeks for my sister (seven years my junior) to talk her into going back to him …
… a few weeks later when I got the phone call from Mum that he’d done it again (I lived a two minute drive away) …
… I got there to find my mother cowering in a corner, covered in blood, there was food and smashed crockery all over the kitchen and my old man calmly drinking another beer … I kicked him off the chair, picked him up and held him against the wall with my forearm against his neck … I promised to kill him if he touched my Mum again … he never did …
my sister stills denies either Mum or me got belted up … denial is an art form for some people …

unfortunately that is the only way to deal with `some`people(usually-cowards) TB, and the system, to which hildebrand clings, fails victims all the time, when l was a kid, there was a wife-beater down the street, when the wife and kids were screaming in the middle of the night, the cops were called by the neighbors, but they couldn`t do `anything`/`much` back in those days, this happened two or three times,
what finally stopped the basher was the neighbors(few solid fellows with tyre irons and cricket bats) grabbing the basher when he came home one evening, `promising` along the same lines as you did,
yep, it worked, for the remaining years in the street, no more battered kids and wife, and the neighbors kept an eye out for`em too,
neighbors did more for those kids and wife than the system ever did,
as l have said before, the `retribution` factor is missing, those that haven`t had to `sort`out thugs before, just don`t have a grip on the reality of these situations
