Senator Nova Peris sought taxpayers’ money for freaky “Tim Tam” extra-marital sexual tryst with Olympic medallist Ato Boldon

October 30, 2014

nova-peris-first-speech-2

Less than two weeks ago, Australian Olympians Nova Peris and Cathy Freeman were photographed together smiling, with their arms draped around each other’s shoulders.

The photograph, one of a series taken at a function in Melbourne on October 17, describes those in the images as “friends” and was posted on the Cathy Freeman Foundation Facebook page and Twitter account.

But, if a series of private emails reportedly sent by Senator Peris in 2010, before she entered politics, are to be believed, she once held a less-than-favourable view of Freeman, her 4×400 metre track-and-field team mate from the Sydney Olympics.

“Like Freeman here, she is so so dumb (sad but true) and has a national profile of running fast achieving awesome things but seriously can’t talk for shit, and has zero communication skills,” Senator Peris reportedly wrote in the email in 2010 to Olympian Ato Boldon.

The Gutter Trash has obtained explicit email exchanges between Senator Peris, who at the time was an Athletics Australia ambassador and communication officer with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, and Boldon, the four-time Olympic medal winner from Trinidad and Tobago.

The disgusting email exchange suggests Senator Peris used taxpayers’ money to bring Boldon to Australia to help her carry out an extra-marital affair with him.

Senator Peris and Boldon have denied any wrongdoing in relation to his 10-day trip to Australia.

In a statement, Boldon said there were “gross fabrications” in the story.

In this so-called string of emails, Senator Peris allegedly discusses setting up a global foundation that would be known for “delivering outcomes (sports, health and education) … for indigenous people”, and tells Boldon of her frank assessment of Cathy Freeman.

” … I don’t want to say oh s*** I wish I had of f***** Ato when he came to Australia … lol … cause I regret that I didn’t 10 years ago, wish I wasn’t the reserved person I was back then the shy girl..lol…,” Senator Peris allegedly wrote.

SORDID TIM TAM SEX SCANDAL COULD END SENATOR’S POLITICAL CAREER!

But wait there’s more!

Nova Peris also sought taxpayers’ money to help her to carry out an extra-marital sexual tryst with Olympic medallist Ato Boldon in 2010 according to an EXCLUSIVE GUTTER TRASH PROBE!

Ms Peris, who was working as a communication officer with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies at the time and as ambassador for Athletics Australia, sought funds from Athletics Australia and other sources to pay for Mr Boldon’s trip to Australia from Los Angeles to take part in a 10 day official “Jump Start to London” program for young athletes.

She also used that trip to carry out a “just like a Tim-tam… black on black” affair with Mr Boldon. She was married to Daniel Batman at the time.

“Ato…tell me babe…what u want … Make a bit of money and spend time together … I will take time of from work to be with u,” Ms Peris wrote in an email exchange obtained by The Gutter Trash

Mr Boldon responded: “Purpose is time with u plus attend trials plus help them promote the trials and possibly guest broadcast on the tv station carrying it…need hotel ticket plus 15,000 US…”

Athletics Australia confirmed they did pay for Mr Boldon’s flight to Melbourne from Los Angeles and covered his accommodations and some “incidentals” while in Australia…

In other emails obtained by The Gutter Trash, Ms Peris sent multiple nude pictures of herself to Mr Boldon and spoke candidly about her views on race relations in Australia.

“…You should be compensated for your long haul travels across the pacific.. sexually of course… but only .. a tired traveller should kick back for a few days,” Ms Peris says on Feb 28, 2010…

Ms Peris responded to questions posed by The Gutter Trash last night, saying she “categorically rejects any wrongdoing”.

“During his trip Mr Boldon promoted athletics, attended and promoted specific events and conducted clinics for young Indigenous athletes,” she said.

“…I understand Athletics Australia was pleased with the outcome of the visit… The highs and lows of my private life are matters for me and my family.”

In earlier emails from February 26, 2010, Ms Peris assures Mr Boldon she will find the money for him.

“…all expenses paid meals & accom and a fee!! Don’t know what it is I was thinking around the $10k I don’t know bub…if your purpose was to come here and make a bit of money or holiday…it was not in the budget to bring any profile athletes out but…I am goin through the indigenous grants mob….they can do was I have suggested…but I am not sure what they can do …”

Ms Peris was married to Olympian Daniel Batman, the father of two of her three children, at the time….

The exact total of money Mr Boldon received is unclear but in an email from mid-March, Ms Peris writes that she had managed to round up $22,000 for him, on top of the money Athletics Australia paid.

“It’s not that I don’t think it is unreasonable, and i totally agree you should be paid up front, its just that the money is government funds…

“…this is all black money babe…..but rightly so being used for the interest of indigenous kids babe….white people hate black people in this country, and don’t like for things to happen if there is no salt in the mix….”

Earlier, the Australian Sports Commission came to the defence of the dual international, saying an independent audit of the program at the centre of the scandal found no wrongdoing.

Although I was never a supporter of her appointment (“because she is an Olympian she has to good”) … and likewise Peter Garrett …

Reading the news.com.au story below the white gutter trash one … I’m inclined to cut Peris a bit of slack …

NT News … wants to be a bit careful methinks … as does the source …

NT News is owned by Murdoch … (as well as news.com.au)

But as Murdoch knows mud sticks … and at a corporate level they can argue they presented both sides … clever …

Hmm, should the lawsuit go ahead, and should these emails turn out to be from a private account, the fireworks should be interesting.

What is more interesting is that ltdnews were just recently running an outrage campaign about a professors public emails being made …. public, which reflected directly on a political matter of the time.

Yes, I can see the similarity 😯

“Documents provided to the NT News are private. It appears they were not lawfully obtained by a third party,” Senator Peris said in a statement.

It appears Senator Peris’ may have pre-empted the release of the emails and referred the matter to police as early as October 2.

An AFP spokesperson said in a statement: “The AFP received a referral on 2 October 2014 from Senator Nova Peris in relation to a number of matters.”

“The AFP is continuing to evaluate this referral as per usual process,” said the spokesperson.

Oh I see according to the Guardian there was no specific audit into all the allegations as there were no allegations when the annual audit was conducted which is what they appear to be relying upon.

Seems at this stage they are just relying on the standard auditors annual statement.

Which it seems was issued well before the “affair/connection” was uncovered.

Auditors dont examine every transaction. They examine samples of transactions randomly selected plus anything that looks “fishy”.

With the emergence of the emails it looks like some rotting fish might be uncovered LOL.

But even if she is cleared there are clear overtones of racism in her emails which the public wont tolerate. She sounds like yet another ALP Victim………………..and we know how well its last “victim” went…………..LOL

An independent audit of the $445,000 given to Athletics Australia for a program at the centre of allegations against Senator Nova Peris found no misuse of the money

If an audit found nothing wrong with the program, I guess we need a Royal Commission.

But even if she is cleared

Of what? This is the bloody Gillard circus all over isn’t it. How fucken blatant can they be.

The AFP have been sitting on this for a month. How long did it take to uncover who exposed yabots free education for family rort? I’m pretty sure this one will come up blank, just like the Ashby matter. Meanwhile, like you say, the piccies are next.

So, it appears that whoever got the emails threatened to blackmail, when that didn’t work out, ltdnews did the dirty for ’em.

    Nice mob, those “journalists”

3:56pm: Senator Peris says the “aggrieved party” in the dispute contacted her earlier this month saying they were in possession of emails and threatened her that their release would cause “major trauma”.

The party had tried to obtain money from her in return for the emails, Senator Peris says.

When that failed, Senator Peris says, the party turned to News Corp which was made aware of the circumstances behind the emails.

When it comes to `influence`, boardrooms set the pace, style and tone of what is `legitimate` influence. So when we have corporations hiring ex-ministers to influence governments, to say, sign-up to their next toll-road deal, and then corporations claim it is `within` the `scope` of their job, this then becomes the standard of clap-trap which becomes `legitimate` for politicians and onions. Not that `our` corporate personal fluffer would ever acknowledge that; what goes around, comes around. #teabags

Ato Jabari Boldon (born 30 December 1973) is a former athlete from Trinidad and Tobago and four-time Olympic medal winner. Only three other men in history—Usain Bolt, Frankie Fredericks and Carl Lewis—have won as many Olympic individual event sprint medals. He is the current Trinidad and Tobago national record holder in the 50, 60 and 200 metres events with times of 5.64, 6.49 and 19.77 seconds respectively. He also held the 100m national record at 9.86, having run it four times, until Richard Thompson ran 9.85 on 13 August 2011. He also holds the Commonwealth Games record in the 100 m.

After retiring from his track career, he was an Opposition Senator in the Trinidad and Tobago Parliament, representing the United National Congress from 2006–2007. He is now a ESPN and NBC Sports television broadcast analyst for track and field.

Seems like the sort of professional to engage with Aboriginal kids to me … gold medal?

Simple, if you’re well connected and determined to lobby an organisation that you work for, without fully disclosing your personal interests and relationships, rorting is easy.

That seems to be what Peris did.

seems. How do we know she didn’t disclose. She might not have said the full story (not that it is any of their or any one elses business), but it would have been well known that they were friends.

but she still did not disclose her clear conflict of interest when she put forward Ato’s name even if there was no rorting/directing funds

so, no rorting, no Public Interest. Thanks 😉

    From Ken Parish

Judging by the publicly revealed facts, It seems that Peris was working as a paid Ambassador for Athletics Australia at the material time in 2010. Unless her duties involved having some specific role in proposing, assessing or approving visits by overseas athletes like Boldon, it is difficult to see how any claim of “misuse of public funds” could plausibly be made.

    ….

The most you could say is that it might have been preferable in a private ethical sense had Peris disclosed her personal relationship with Boldon.1 She couldn’t be accused of “misuse of public funds” if she had no role at all in deciding how those funds were used.

    …..

Nevertheless, if I was advising Nova Peris, I would be suggesting she think carefully before commencing court proceedings. She certainly should demand a retraction and apology from the newspaper, and consider suing if one is not promptly forthcoming, but it usually isn’t a good idea for a politician to engage in an ongoing feud with the only metropolitan newspaper in her electorate.

    http://clubtroppo.com.au/2014/10/30/the-peris-affair-perhaps-ethically-dubious-but-not-legally/

The last is so true 😦

I understand that ltdnews has already started with the ‘she has questions to answer’ schtick

It is so blatant it’s almost laughable.

And some claim having a rabidly biased media isn’t a problem 😯

    Tell to Nova Peris’s kids!

    Missing the point (I think)

I recall a senior manager with an airline who was dismissed over a cleaning contract for a relative, even though it was through competitive tender. It was the lack of transparency that was the issue.

I also recall an HR manager being dismissed for engaging his wife’s training consultancy without adequate disclosure.

Transparency and disclosure are the critical elements, not skill or capability, if people don’t understand that they’re really not familiar with good, ethical business practice.

Grog nails yabots hypocrisy and obvious class warfare

Tony Abbott’s call for a “mature” debate about federalism and the GST should be no shock to anyone. It was on the cards the moment the May budget revealed that funding to the states for health and education was to be cut by $80bn from 2017-18 onwards. But while a GST may help raise more revenue, the government must address the fact that any increase in GST will hurt the poorest the most – the same households targeted in the government’s first budget.

While a mature debate is always welcome, the timing of Abbott’s call is rather interesting. I guess a debate could only be had after winning office because in August last year, when the (inevitable and accurate) suggestions that a Coalition government would seek to raise the GST were made, Tony Abbott responded by pledging, “let me be as categoric as I can. The GST won’t change, full stop, end of story.”

”””””’Senator Peris told parliament she was contacted in
October 2012 by an #aggrieved party who told her he had in his possession a folder of information relating to Boldon’s 2010 visit to Australia.

In March this year, the party’s representative sent her an email and said “unless his wishes were granted she would take such action”.

Further contact was made earlier this month. Senator Peris said the aggrieved party had turned to the media after legal options were exhausted.

I AGREE! with New Matilda on this point

It appears to be lost on the many people who have rushed to condemn New Matilda for weighing in on this issue that the family members attacked under the cover of parliamentary privilege are also entitled to a voice. How can people on the one hand condemn News Corporation for attacking Senator Peris with sensationalised claims, while at the same time ignore Senator Peris’ sensational parliamentary attack on others without providing supporting evidence?

Equally, the same people who argue that Senator Peris’ private family life should not have been dragged into the public domain this way, must surely also accept that Senator Peris opened that gate further by using her parliamentary privilege to slander family members with accusations they attempted to extort money from her.

    https://newmatilda.com/2014/11/03/why-we-published-nova-peris-blackmail-emails-and-why-theres-more-come

No matter the hurt caused by the splashing of such private emails across papers, her attack, if it was to come, should have been either in a court of law, or a public domain. It isn’t called cowards castle for nothing. Perhaps there was (warranted) reason for venting, but then that is all it is, venting.

However, I still cannot see the public interest, which the article declares is there. Given that it was her job to use her connections to get people just like Ato here, which she did, and there has been no indication from anywhere that she did anything wrong or outside her remit (even after an investigation and now exposure of very private emails). There have been claims about it (with plenty of attached inuendo), but the public interest just does not seem to exist. Interesting that there has been no follow up whatsoever to try and defend this public interest yet either. Like all smears, the caravan has moved on (thanks largely to Nova’s reply) and it is now about her allegations.

It’s what smears do best. The original ‘reason’ is lost, ignored, if it was ever there to begin with.

I still do not see it was there to begin with. Happy to be convinced otherwise though.
