Waltz-Blofeld2_3127881c

James Bond has returned. Twenty-five months after “Skyfall” debuted, director Sam Mendes announced the title and cast of the 24th Bond film during a press conference at Pinewood Studios in England on Thursday. The next 007 adventure, “Spectre,” will arrive in theatres on Nov. 6, 2015.

Christoph Waltz, star of Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained and Carnage will play the role of Blofeld, arch nemesis of Bond and head of Spectre.

While he might seem like the perfect choice, one can’t help but think that others would be better suited.

Who do you think should play the next Bond villain….??

FREE enterprise my arse … “untaxed cigarettes” … and people want Australia to become the 51st State …

The New York City grand jury let off Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the death of Eric Garner, who had been stopped on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.

After seeing SkyFall, I would have thought Daniel Craig would have been perfect for the role of villain.

He’s pretty much destroyed Bond 😉

Just to ramble of kilter for a bit, but I’ve been listening to a few podcasts lately, and wondered if anyone else had any favourites they would like to share. I’m going for lot’s of walks recently, and found that listening helps the time go better, and more productive (so I tell myself)

Anyway, here’s a brief list of what I’m listening to, but would be happy to hear from anyone else for more.

They are not all political either

I don’t know what got me onto him, but he has some very interesting topics. I started listening to his Common Sense section, then decided to look into Hardcore History, and he has an (ongoing, I discovered) series titled “Blueprint for Armageddon”, which, to date, has been about the First World War. It is, in a word, inspiring. He brings the true savagery of that particular conflict into stark contrast with everything else it can be compared with. So far it is at number 4, and, at over three hours each episode, is still only at the Battle of the Somme. But, it has been mesmerising, although sometimes thoroughly depressing to listen in depth to what these men were asked to do to each other, and what they had to endure. I’m far from an expert on these things, so can’t say how it compares to to others, but has caused me to look even more into this period, and just how something like that could occur.

He does get political but, to my “lefty” mind, he plays things pretty down the middle.

””””””’The national accounts reveal that the volume of tobacco consumed fell 2.2 per cent in the September quarter to continue the broad down trend in tobacco consumption evident over many decades.

Despite population growth, the volume of tobacco consumed in aggregate terms has never been lower going all the way back to 1959 when the ABS started calculating the data.

#Thus, teh-abs collects its `baccy-data` from white-market baccy sales. Without some type of attempt to include ATO-data of recent `black-market` busts and estimates of quantities or/and tax-free baccy, `kouks` calculations/analysis is incomplete because all it measures is `falling-sales` numbers, which do not tell us the `quit` numbers or transfer to `black-product`.

White-market falling sales numbers= quit numbers+black market transfers

QANTAS is expecting to post an underlying net profit after tax of between $300 million and $350 million in the first six months of the 2015 financial year.

People in the airline industry have an overdeveloped sense of privilege, their families too…

Airline families get outstanding privileges in travel & accommodation, that members of the general public can only dream of. But most don’t seem to have any perception of this.

Korean Air CEO’s daughter Cho Hyun-Ah goes nuts over nuts: flight delayed after macadamia brouhaha

A flight from New York to Seoul faced a brief but dramatic delay when the head flight attendant was kicked off the plane over the mishandling of an airline executive’s macadamia nuts.
The Korean Airlines flight was taxiing to the runway when a junior flight attendant served the in-flight snack, in its packet, to executive vice president Heather Cho.
Ms Cho, 40, also known as Cho Hyun-Ah, oversees in-flight experiences for the family-run flag carrier and took exception to the arrival of the nuts that she had not requested, as well as how they were served.

TB The known suspects should note this useful link-

    ADVERSE AND AVERSE
Adverse means harmful or unfavourable: “Adverse market conditions caused the IPO to be poorly subscribed.” Averse refers to feelings of dislike or opposition: “I was averse to paying $18 a share for a company that generates no revenue.”
But hey, feel free to have an aversion to adverse conditions.

    AFFECT AND EFFECT
Verbs first. Affect means to influence: “Impatient investors affected our rollout date.” Effect means to accomplish something: “The board effected a sweeping policy change.”
How you use effect or affect can be tricky. For example, a board can affect changes by influencing them and can effect changes by directly implementing them. Bottom line, use effect if you’re making it happen, and affect if you’re having an impact on something that someone else is trying to make happen.
As for nouns, effect is almost always correct: “Once he was fired he was given 20 minutes to gather his personal effects.” Affect refers to an emotional state, so unless you’re a psychologist you probably have little reason to use it.

    IRREGARDLESS AND REGARDLESS
Irregardless appears in some dictionaries because it’s widely used to mean “without regard to” or “without respect to” … which is also what regardless means.
In theory the ir-, which typically means “not,” joined up with regardless, which means “without regard to,” makes irregardless mean “not without regard to,” or more simply, “with regard to.”
Which probably makes it a word that does not mean what you think it means.
So save yourself a syllable and just say regardless.

    WHO’S AND WHOSE
“Whose password hasn’t been changed in six months?” is correct. Use the non-contracted version of who’s, like, “Who is (the non-contracted version of who’s) password hasn’t been changed in six months?” and you sound a little silly.

    YOU’RE AND YOUR
One more. You’re is the contraction of you are. Your means you own it; the apostrophe in you’re doesn’t own anything.
For a long time a local non-profit displayed a huge sign that said, “You’re Community Place.”
Hmm. “You Are Community Place”? No, probably not.

    http://www.news.com.au/finance/work/incorrectly-used-words-that-will-make-you-sound-dumb-at-work/story-fnkgbb6w-1227150983356?sv=3059c6081bec31ef2a86ed257abaae4b
