It’s Just a Flesh Wound

January 23, 2015

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the kind messages of support, so it looks like I’m going to stick around, yet another Farnham episode (how embarrassment).

Just one thing I ought to let you know, and I know some of you won’t agree with this decision, but well that’s life.  Egg is no longer welcome to participate on this blog.   I think I’ve been more than patient with egg, and despite multiple requests to refrain from derailing unrelated threads with climate change denialist BS egg persists in doing so.

The beginning to 2015 hasn’t been kind to me on a number of levels, and on top of that, running a blog that attempts to take a light-hearted poke at politics only to have it persistently derailed by one serial offender with their own pet agenda just got to me in the end.

So anyhow, that’s the state of play.

Maybe we can all begin the new year afresh, and without some of the personal nastiness that seems to have emerged in the last few months.

I started this blog because I thought it would be fun (with a few of you usual suspects – you know who you are!).

If it’s no longer fun, then I cant see the point in continuing, but if we are ALL prepared to give it a crack, then I am too….   (And let’s face it, with the Abbott govt, and Bill Shorten’s Zingers, there’s no shortage of material to work with)…

Sincerely,

reb.

Well thank goodness that dummy spit is over! It takes great talent to deliver astringency and in particular to sow conventional expletives in a way that warrants their use, for most users of the vulgar vernacular it is ‘Gap Filler,’ a poor attempt at descriptive writing. But not in your case, your venom is much the richer and all the more plaudits to you. Take a break by all means but tell us when so we lesser folk can take a breath. Oh and one last thing, you have to have a tough hide in your space; by all means read what the peasants say but if you take it to heart, they have won.

…Since the Your Rights at Work campaign, most Liberals stay silent about how they’d like to reconstruct industrial relations laws. The mention of WorkChoices sends shivers down their spines.

That’s where the Productivity Commission comes in. To give themselves cover, the Liberals said that if elected they would ask the commission to review our workplace laws.

On Friday, Joe Hockey finally delivered his terms of reference for the review. They are so wide that everything that matters for everyone who works for a living is up for grabs.

The review is critical to the Liberals’ scheme to remake Australia’s social compact. Alongside the Commission of Audit, the trade unions Royal Commission, the tax white paper, and the reform of Federation white paper, it forms part of their blueprint to unravel our social democracy…

“And I can assure you (where’s Toillette?) working permanent night shift is deleterious to your health and social life!

As are rotating shifts … ”

Only just catching up with Abbott’s first salvo in the assault upon penalty rates just now.

Needless to say, my first reaction is …”Over My Dead Fucking Body Queen’sbitch “…

I’d say, if he really tries it on, he’s bitten off waaaay more than his cabal can chew, especially in the current political climate, but generally in any political climate. Cnuts like him need to stop, pause & consider that those of us potentially deleteriously affected are in a bigger majority than the Ivory Tower Dwellers who stand to ca$h in from hammering the cattle into poorly paid niches at anti-social times of the day/week/public holiday.
It’s not nearly as simple as his ilk present it to be.
Interestingly, to me at least (even more so now, after his announcements today), only last night we had a ‘stop work’ meeting (orchestrated by the company, not the Union) to ‘communicate’ to us all that ‘they’ would be attacking penalty rates, public holidays, overtime etc in the pending EBA.
    It was always coming.

I’d love to say more, but most of what was presented to us was commercial in confidence.

  25. January 23, 2015 7:13 pm

So egg/el gordo is no longer welcome, and I don’t think I can save him this time. Looks like I’ll have to assume the mantle of head denier. Tom R, get ready.

(Since any talk about climate change (by certain people) is seen as thread-derailing, does reb think we should reinstate the back room, so the sensitive can avoid having their brains bombarded?)

  26. January 23, 2015 7:15 pm

Thank you Boss, I appreciate that.

Just to be clear, I’m not looking for any sort of glory or adulation here. I find writing just as much as an outlet for myself as I imagine it must be for other people who come to express their opinions here.

I don’t always agree with other people and that’s fine.

But when someone deliberately and systematically goes about derailing threads with their own unrelated agenda, then it begs me to question why I bother.

Despite many, many repeated requests to stop derailing threads with CC denials BS, egg persisted in doing so, to the point where I couldn’t even be bothered participating here.

I don’t really like the idea of banning people, but sadly egg declined many polite and not so polite requests to take his/her/its CC arguments to other blogs where he/she/it might find a receptive audience,

I felt like tossing it all in (again), because I do have a life outside of this (amazingly!), but then I do enjoy it.

It’s a pity one individual had to spoil it (temporarily) for the rest of us.

  27. January 23, 2015 7:16 pm

At least I know I can go back & look at why el gordo got evicted, unlike those publications undertaken by AIMNcorp (where any ‘abberations’ were quickly sent down the memory hole).

El gordo always seemed to revel in the albatraoz around his neck.

  28. January 23, 2015 7:20 pm

“I find writing just as much as an outlet for myself as I imagine it must be for other people who come to express their opinions here.”

    I’m sure that’s exactly right.

  29. January 23, 2015 7:25 pm

“I don’t really like the idea of banning people”

I believe that wholeheartedly, and there is evidence enough to support it over many years.

Only the very few get a disallowance here.

I concur with the opinions stated by a couple of the (presumably lurkers) contributors above, who I am unfamiliar with.

  30. January 23, 2015 7:26 pm

    “I’m sure that’s exactly right.”

    Absolutley.

Being able to put it down without regard for (most) conventions is cathartic, says I.

  31. January 23, 2015 7:29 pm

(Since any talk about climate change (by certain people) is seen as thread-derailing, does reb think we should reinstate the back room, so the sensitive can avoid having their brains bombarded?)

    I think that’s a bit unfair ToSY…

People can talk about CC to their heart’s content on the Rostrum forum, and I have posted the occasional CC thread in the past.

The reality is that it’s really not a topic that I’m not really all that interested in. Not because it’s unimportant, but basically because the argument always comes down to one thing – you either believe the science or you don’t.

My issue with egg is that he/she/it took every opportunity to derail any thread regardless of the topic to turn into a debate about CC.

I accept that egg might not always have been the first one to bring it up in the topic of conversation, but he/she/it made sure that once it had been raised, then that would be the focus of the discussion from that point on.

There are plenty of other blogs (presumably) that focus on the specific issue of whether CC is real or not, and I have politely encouraged egg to participate on those forums, rather than dealing threads here that have nothing to do with his/her/its pet topic.

    But still egg persists.

Perhaps other blog operators might’ve simply banned egg without any explanation..

I’ve given egg plenty of polite and not so polite requests to desist from this sort of behaviour but still it insists on doing it.

It’s the height of rudeness as far as I’m concerned, so egg is no longer welcome.

In fact, I imagine few other blog owner types wouldn’ve been so polite to put up with so much BS in the first place.

  32. January 23, 2015 7:36 pm

Fair enough. Like I always say, it’s your blog and we’re only guests here.

(Rostrum threads should be for any topic, I agree. But certain Queenslanders still complain when CC is brought up on any of them. 😉 Clearly, AO, TomR, splatterbottom and myself have a keen interest in this topic. I’ve read about this subject for about ten years now, to the point where I knew what paleoclimatology was and could name the sites in Siberia where core samples were taken. I’m not that obsessed now but would still like to discuss the topic from time to time. It has some pretty important policy implications, too)

  33. January 23, 2015 7:41 pm

“The reality is that it’s really not a topic that I’m not really all that interested in. Not because it’s unimportant, but basically because the argument always comes down to one thing – you either believe the science or you don’t.”

    This resonates with me.

I see it as an issue that’s abused polemically. Right or wrong, it’s now split down an ideological divide, with each side aligning themselves.

I see it a little the same way as I see the anti-vaccination debate, or anti-fluoridation. It’s just harder to call out the crackpots on AGW, and because it has extremely broad economic implications, the lattice of discontent on both sides is intricate & almost unable to be disentwined.

  34. January 23, 2015 7:42 pm

As I’ve always said Tony, if you want to write a post on any topic even – paleoclimatology – whatever the fuck that is, I’ll be happy to post it for discussion….. 🙂

  35. January 23, 2015 7:46 pm

I’m wondering if the AGW worm has turned in Oz politics too?

I’m not sure that ‘less than nuanced’ denialism is good judgement for the benighted AbbottCorp these days.

I sense a swing back (carried by the posturing and pronouncements of other global ‘powers’) in public sentiment, perhaps.

Anyhow, fuck Abbott, and such things would be shitting Bolt to tears.

Those battles are over, and the deniers `have` won them. However, they, the deniers (and those timid politicians) have lost the war. lndustries and public around the world are going it alone, as global and national leadership has been abdicated. We will lose species, arguing the toss of whether it is just the polar-bear becoming extinct alone, or the koala and panda join it, won`t matter much. I hope history is extremely unkind to the deniers and all they stand for. …………..There should be no glory and no forgiveness from those who will lead us into a cleaner future. It’s been a dirty war.

The natural totalitarians tendencies are hard to hide. It just comes naturally to ALP/Greens supporters.

I suspect that AGW will prove to be one of the biggest frauds in scientific history.

    ”””fiddling while rome burns”””

#which is unfortunately victory for the denial-teabags, they only need to spread bullshit and cause the `system` to dither and fiddle.

#take the `war-on-drugs` for instance, the `war` is lost, and those that declared `war` preside over cities and towns where street-drugs are in increasing quantities and easy availability. For a long time (30-to-40-years) big-pharma won battles to deny patients `iboga`, `medical-choof` and `other`stuff. The water-guzzling big-cotton joined in to deny nations `hemp-fiber` industries despite `hemp` not containing any stoners-delight TCH. (frightened timid politicians of both sides into paralysis, and bamboozled dopey-media with bullshit. Those battles are over) resulting in `going-it-alone` hospitals now build `prison-cells` inside them to treat violent street-drugged patients, (and probably have to issue body armor to quacks and nurses). While `ambos` are assaulted more often. lf this is their idea of winning, l would hate to see what their idea of `losing` looks like.

#Just like teh war on drugs, global warming action plans are at the same stage, ”going-it-alone” without the timid national leadership and without ”good” information from what passes itself off today as news-media.

Other than 4 days of shitting thru the eye of a needle all is just dandy. I can’t believe there is no nbn here or pink batts of school halls.

These silly pricks seem to like it simple like getting a roof and fucking lighting fires to heat and feed thselves. Selfish cunts !

KL, this says it all about Joyce …

Qantas still had 66 planes in the air. The airline decided not to tell pilots who were flying about the unprecedented events underway on the ground. It deemed it a risk to safety because it believed pilots would be distracted while in the air. Word had a habit of spreading quickly, even at 40,000 feet.

Secrecy is the hallmark of a coward … pilots are not easily “distracted” … especially by company politics … and the ignorance of modern communications technology* is astounding … a good by the looks …

Joyce should have been gone before 2011 anyway … another wannabe Robber Baron … personal power and wealth at the expense of others is classic Robber Baron strategy …

*I guess that could be argued – sort of – that he knew the power of email and text messages … simpleton …

Todd here, but late to this, but noticed my name mentioned and wanted to clear up the confusion

The commenter has me confused with Graeme Innes, who was the the former Disability Discrimination Commissioner. Graeme is blind, I am not however. I have Cerebral Palsy. Graeme spoke at Stella Young’s funeral. I did not

  94. July 28, 2015 9:55 pm

Thanks for clearing that up, and welcome to the show Todd

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
