The Little Book of Living

Hello

Sometimes in life we come across philosophies or inspirational quotes that make an impact on our outlook on life and/or cause us to confront our own beliefs and prejudices.

I have too many to list.

However, today is my birthday, and at this time of year I’m often pensive and philosophical.

So today, I was given pause to reflect on things, and this quote came to mind..

“first of all nothing will happen
and a little later
nothing will happen again” …

~ Leonard Cohen

Do you have any quotes or philosophies that are meaningful to you…?

    Many happy returns, Reb.

This is a quote: “Sex and drugs and rock and roll are all my body needs. Sex and drugs and rock and roll are very good indeed.” ~ Ian Dury

There’s an old saying that people say to me quite often – “F**K OFF!!”

    Firstly…Happy Birthday!

Secondly…”Could Be Worse”…is a useful motivational quote which I often consider.

Thirdly…Leonard is a bit of a wordsmith, for a monotone droner ( 😉 ). The rest of my family love him.

    Happy belated b’day reb.

I personally like this little snippet

You can be anything you want to be
Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be
Be free with your temple, be free, be free
Surrender your ego – be free, be free to yourself

Yea, they reckon it says tempo, but I like my version better 😉

Happy Birthday, reb. I love your blog. 🙂 It is a big part of my life these days.

Leonard Cohen was my first and most enduring musical obsession. The quote you used was bleakly typical of a lot of his stuff. This line of his has been in my head for over thirty years: “And your love is some dust in an old man’s cough as he taps his foot to a tune”. In that telling something happened but it didn’t amount to much in the end.

On a more positive note, two things I heard long ago have stuck with me:

“every act of kindness is a little bit of love we leave behind”

    “Two things stand like stone:
    Kindness in another’s trouble
    And courage in your own”

    Yes……..happy birthday for Yesterday

    My favourite quote is

“”In order for you to insult me I would have to first actually value your opinion””

    Thank you AO and #bagz.

I am currently at the epicentre for retired people who are 5 minutes away from kicking the bucket – The RACV “Country Club” in the Yarra Valley. Putting the tree back into country.

I would like to say that I am enjoying myself but that just wouldn’t be true.

    Quite retrospective introspective … I thought …

Putting the tree back into country.

WTF? Does that mean they bury instead of cremate there?

Or are they part of the Direct Action Plan?

The dreadful murder of the young woman in Doncaster… another example of a young life lost due to the hopeless penal system.

Anyone convicted of a violent crime against women should wear a tracking device after release for 10+ years.

There are just too many examples of murder by convicted criminals that should not be roaming the streets.

In 2004, Mr Price turned himself in to police and then pleaded guilty to 22 charges of raping, indecently assaulting and threatening to kill young women in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
He attacked six women and a 13 year old girl in daylight hours in suburbs incuding Kew, Camberwell and Balwyn between February 2002 and June 2003.
The court heard at the time that he sexually assaulted a mother of two in her home, attacked a 13-year-old schoolgirl and raped a 21-year-old woman on a footpath.

From time to time f**kwits have argued that the warrior President Putin and the freedom fighters had no involvement in the shooting down of MH17.

The evidence is now starting to come out.

MH17 evidence: Dutch journalist discovers fragments of Russian missile amid wreckage
FRAGMENTS from a Russian surface-to-air missile have been recovered from the wreckage of Flight MH17.
The distorted scrap of metal was picked up by a Dutch journalist visiting the village of Hrabove where the stricken aircraft ploughed into the ground, killing all 298 aboard.
