Abbott Govt determined to Fight Equality
Any lingering suspicion that the Federal Liberal party had dispensed with its archaic ideology of the past has been dispelled within the past 24 hours with arch-conservative and resident nutjob Eric Abetz taking to the media to slam America’s recent decision to legislate in favour of marriage equality.
The concept of “equality” is not something most ordinary people struggle with, but get a senior Liberal Party member to comment and you may find that what many people would universally view as a “good thing” has others spewing forth fire and brimstone should the innate right to discriminate against others based on nothing other than blind prejudice be removed from their god given right.
Abetz has today gone into nutjobbery hyperdrive claiming that marriage equality will open the gates to Hell and more…
“To change the definition now will open the Pandora’s box,’ he said, adding that “gay marriage is just another ‘latest pad’ (sic).
“I have no hesitation in supporting the long established Liberal Party policy to preserve and protect the institution of marriage, just as we did at the last election,” he said.
Abetz has also accused the media of having “lost its objectivity on the issue,” and lashed out at the “activist” US Supreme Court for its dubious decision to legalise same-sex marriage in all 50 US states.
Eric Abetz says Australia should not legalise gay marriage because no Asian country has adopted marriage equality.
Senator Abetz’s comments are reminiscent of when fellow right-wing senator Cory Bernardi said same-sex marriage could lead to acceptance of bestiality. He was subsequently sacked from his shadow frontbench role.
Senator Bernardi renewed his warnings on Thursday that gay marriage would deny children what he said is their right to a mother and a father.
“If you are claiming this is an issue of discrimination, who are you to discriminate from you know, commercial surrogacy? Aren’t you then denying someone the opportunity to have children or to enter into private arrangements in that capacity?” he told the ABC.
Senator Abetz also opposed same-sex marriage on the basis that it is supported by Mr Shorten.
He also slammed the Australian media and said voters resented “unfair reporting” by journalists on the issue.
Despite an overwhelming majority of Australians now in favour of marriage equality, Tony Abbott remains vehemently opposed and is resisting attempts from within his own ranks who are pushing for change.
It’s quite hilarious to witness these archaic morons scramble to legitimise their bigotry while the rest of Australia (and the rest of the Western world) has already moved on.
