Abbott Govt determined to Fight Equality

Any lingering suspicion that the Federal Liberal party had dispensed with its archaic ideology of the past has been dispelled within the past 24 hours with arch-conservative and resident nutjob Eric Abetz taking to the media to slam America’s recent decision to legislate in favour of marriage equality.

The concept of “equality” is not something most ordinary people struggle with, but get a senior Liberal Party member to comment and you may find that what many people would universally view as a “good thing” has others spewing forth fire and brimstone should the innate right to discriminate against others based on nothing other than blind prejudice be removed from their god given right.

Abetz has today gone into nutjobbery hyperdrive claiming that marriage equality will open the gates to Hell and more…

“To change the definition now will open the Pandora’s box,’ he said, adding that “gay marriage is just another ‘latest pad’ (sic).

“I have no hesitation in supporting the long established Liberal Party policy to preserve and protect the institution of marriage, just as we did at the last election,” he said.

Abetz has also accused the media of having “lost its objectivity on the issue,” and lashed out at the “activist” US Supreme Court for its dubious decision to legalise same-sex marriage in all 50 US states.

Eric Abetz says Australia should not legalise gay marriage because no Asian country has adopted marriage equality.

Senator Abetz’s comments are reminiscent of when fellow right-wing senator Cory Bernardi said same-sex marriage could lead to acceptance of bestiality.  He was subsequently sacked from his shadow frontbench role.

Senator Bernardi renewed his warnings on Thursday that gay marriage would deny children what he said is their right to a mother and a father.

“If you are claiming this is an issue of discrimination, who are you to discriminate from you know, commercial surrogacy? Aren’t you then denying someone the opportunity to have children or to enter into private arrangements in that capacity?” he told the ABC.

Senator Abetz also opposed same-sex marriage on the basis that it is supported by Mr Shorten.

He also slammed the Australian media and said voters resented “unfair reporting” by journalists on the issue.

Despite an overwhelming majority of Australians now in favour of marriage equality, Tony Abbott remains vehemently opposed and is resisting attempts from within his own ranks who are pushing for change.

It’s quite hilarious to witness these archaic morons scramble to legitimise their bigotry while the rest of Australia (and the rest of the Western world) has already moved on.

So we are ‘all the way with the USA’ on everything else, except for when it comes to marriage, then we’re Asian!

    #conservative logic

Part of me hopes they keep this shite up until the next election …

So The Mad Abbott and Abetz must also side with ISIL – they don’t agree with same sex marriage either … using the same logic as above …

… is there any section of society they haven’t disparaged or insulted yet? Apart from the Vatican of course … speaking of which what happened to the god almighty Pell?

It’s hard to keep up with who is our best friend today with this grubmint AO

Recall on his grand tour, yabot was bagging the US whilst in Canadia, and then snuggling up while there.

    Nope.

Not surprising. Everything is a political wedge to them. Although, in this case, Shorten wedged them first. Does that make him just as bad?

I saw this headline while I was just over at the oz reading niki savva’s article [didn’t bother looking at it though].

“The Senate leader has savaged same-sex marriage as an attack on rights, and pointed out no Asian country has allowed it.”

Here we are with our civil liberties being removed almost daily by both parties and the only country in the world [outside of china and nth korea] with such mass surveillance and control over it’s citizens and abetz says marriage equality is an attack on rights. Someone might point out that Asian countries aren’t greatly committed to human rights in general.

Didn’t notice him worried about rights when his govt set about removing them from us and attacking anyone in public office who had the audacity to point out that asylum seekers are humans too.

I’d love it if these bigoted pollies would ever have the courage to offer up their views to a real live audience instead of airing them through the media mouthpiece where they are sure they will never have to hear up close what other people think of them and their views.

I think we can safely say that the liberal party is anti human rights and equality, the only rights they want to protect are corporate and property rights.

One of the liberal MP’s was reported as saying that the SSM bill won’t make it to the parliament as the libs have control of the cross party process.

Is shorten willing to team up with the greens and indies and produce their own?

“”I think we can safely say that the liberal party is anti human rights and equality, the only rights they want to protect are corporate and property rights.””

Indeed. And the amazing thing is, there are a lot of people who are okay with that…

Yeah it`s as predicted pre-election reb. l don`t hold any hope on gay-marriage, VE, or any other personal liberties under the zombies myself. They are a largely a single focus bunch of half-wits, only interested in making the obscenely rich even richer at the cost to everybody and everything else. Now we just get to see the size of the taxpayer cash bonfire they will use to keep opposing the public will.
