***A STUNNING GUTTER TRASH EXCLUSIVE REPORT***

BREAKING NEWS:

With thanks to our exclusive sources, The Gutter Trash can reveal the rabid right-wing conservative MP and Tony Abbott loyalist Cory Bernardi is set to walk away from the Liberal Party within the next 48 hours.

Bernardi was gutted when the comparatively moderate Malcolm Turnbull sabotaged former Liberal Party Leader Tony Abbott in September 2015 and assumed control of the Liberal Party in an overnight coup.

Since then, Bernardi has formed a coalition of conservative MPs within the LNP consisting of the likes of Erica Abetz, Tony Abbott and George Christensen. This vocal minority have been accused of not-so-secretly holding the Prime Minister to ransom over contentious issues like “equality” and “protecting the environment.”

Now, in the wake of an abysmal poll that would signal the complete annihilation of the LNP if an election were held today, Bernardi is expected to confirm recent speculation that he is ready to abandon the fledgling LNP and set up his own conservative party called Cory’s United National Team, and is currently looking for some Cory’s United National Team Supporters to formally launch the party.

The move will be yet another kick in the guts for Prime Minister Turnbull who has seen his popularity wane since he assumed leadership of the LNP a mere 18 months ago.

On a two-party preferred basis, the Coalition is basically fucked.

If an election was held today, Liberal Party members would be outnumbered by more than 2 to 1 by Labor Party members.

I think diversity in politics is fine. Bernardi is likely to take lots of votes from Hansen and that’s a good thing.

    That’s true ToM.

    Chuckle … 85 to 65 (with full X-bench support) … yeah that’s a good thing … for Labor …

BTW, the Australian Liberal Party is similar to the Conservative Party in the UK … so what’s Bernadi’s lot going to be similar too … Opus Dei? 😉

    Cory will not leave.
He is a senator elected on the LNP name.He is not an MP who faces an electorate.
If he leaves the LNP he will be lucky to be re elected as a Senator himself let alone have additional members.
As for becoming an MP he would want to make sure he selects the most red neck conservative electorate in the country if he is going to stand.

I think Bernardi is a member of the Liberal Party, Shane.

The LNP is (oddly enough) a different party … began in Queensland and slowly infecting the country … I think Abetz is Liberal too …

I certainly agree with the last paragraph … Katter should watch his back! LOL!

(Katter used to drive me up the wall on flights back from Weipa he’d get on at Cairns and never shut up all the way to Brisbane – on and fkn on!)

Interesting to see the farmers now saying that they feel betrayed by Katter and Joyce with their climate change scepticism. Makes you wonder whose interests they’re really representing…

You are being a bit pedantic aren’t you ? I think you know exactly what I meant 🙂

When I refer to the LNP I refer to the coalition of the LNP that forms the Federal Government. I acknowledge that technically Cory is a member of the Liberals but it is the coalition of the LNP that is in government. Without the NP the L could not govern.

I think it’s fine that the Libs start to say goodbye to the luddites. Just as it would be good for the ALP to offload the hacks.

It’s giving all political complexions someone to support.

Shane, yes … pedantic enough to know that there is an LNP party and a Liberal Party and a National Party … in fact all the right wing parties LNP – L – N … form the coalition … and I suspect soon to be an Australian Conservative Party … 🙄

You may recall that there was a DLP (Democratic Labour Party*) a break away from the ALP … and constant bickering did neither party any good … (NB: ToM!)

I live in hope that splintered parties eventually fail (see above) – unfortunately they are also ineffective in government … as we currently experience …

    And anyway, Shane …

neel, may not know that … 🙂

*I think the DLP has been resurrected somewhere? An old bloke I knew always referred to them as the Dirty Labor Party! Lots of angst – formed late 50’s till sometime in the 70’s I think …

I think they both should offload the career politicians along with the faceless men and those who roll along on the senate ticket getting re elected year after year without any real responsibility to voters but rather a party.

I agree splinter parties for the most I hope will fail. However I am sick to death of the plutocracy we now live in rather than a democracy and that goes for both of the duopoly.

  15. February 6, 2017 6:06 pm

    Spoken like a true Lib:

“I don’t give a stuff about the national interest, I want to get re-elected and this needs to go away.”

    Says it all, hey!

And then I realised the significance of the “whole” quote …

MP Don Randall, rose to his feet and said: “I don’t give a stuff about the national interest, I want to get re-elected and this needs to go away.”

Bernardi went back to his Senate office and wrote down the quote. He never forgot it. It was the beginning of the end.

    The END for whom?

Pru MacSween (the hysterical right wing screamer who has the worst manners and yells for someone who thinks we have degenerated into a rabble of lefties) was just on Sunrise stating that Malcolm Turnbull needs to swing more to the right, that he has become more an ALP lite and a lefty.

Since he was elected, can any of the conservative supporters on this site tell me exactly what he has done that is lefty.

IMO he has swung dramatically to the right. Union Bashing, Tax cuts for the rich, attacking the poor unemployed and pensioners, anti renewables, anti same sex marriage, scared of Bernardi, Abetz and the other extreme nutters who do not face an electorate.

What on earth has he done for the so called lefties ?

Beenardi is just looking for an excuse to make a name for himself. Representing the bitter Bolt constituency.

But fragmentation of the existing big parties is fine with me.

The ALP isn’t “governing” ToM, the LN Coalition is supposed to be …

If the ALP were as incompetent as this lot over four years I’d be saying that too!

And you must know that or you haven’t been paying attention for the last decade!

It was the Coalition that kept telling everyone how good they were at “everyfink!” and in fact they are competent at nothing! Oh, they stopped the boats … and … and … and …

They obviously fooled some people they won government – just …

If you think the LN Coalition works for Australia and Australians there’s plenty of evidence to the contrary … take a shufty at the disaster that Shoalwater is about to become … or Port Darwin … gas pricing … manufacturing … TAFE and VET … education … Centrelink … wages, prices and company profits … and the snouts caught in the trough always seem to be a bit longer and stay a bit more in the Liberal Party!

But fragmentation of the existing big parties is fine with me.

    And me.

The voters need to keep driving this political change though, not the politicians. We need to look at the election papers that the party hands out and number all squares, if the voters did that, Cory Bernardi wouldn’t get elected at all.

I’d like the electorate to throw a bomb into the middle of this cosy political system that our corrupted pollies have made for themselves and demand the reforms.

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
