Religious discrimination works both ways.

September 7, 2017

was-jesus-gay-702-body-image-1435873015

Perhaps one good thing that will come of this so-called “marriage equality debate” will be the realisation that religion has no place in a secular society, and finally I will stop having to ‘tolerate’ my so-called friends and relatives who believe in sky fairy nonsense (and seek to live their lives by it and impose those same ‘rules’ on others who don’t subscribe to those fanciful beliefs), in much the same way as they believe that this so-called ‘postal vote’ allows them licence to impose their ‘god sanctioned’ views on others. Pfft..!

At least we can dispense with the notion of ‘tolerance’ when you realise that most ppl who adhere to these ‘sky fairy’ scriptures would actually be institutionalised as ‘dilusional’ in the 21st century rather than holding sway over the equal rights of otherwise normal everyday citizens.

It’s about time logic was allowed to prevail over religious dogma. And it’s probably going to happen right about now.

In other words. “religious discrimination” – it works both ways, fuckers.

I am one of those who has converted to atheism form a very strict catholic up bringing. When I truly opened my eyes what I realised was that we were brain washed, coerced, threatened (with purgatory and hell) and demeaned into accepting belief of something that simply does not exist. When we thank God for the rain but do not blame him for the previous drought it is so blatantly clear that religion is made up fairy tales.

Problem is, as the majority become poorer and the worlds assets are concentrated to fewer and fewer through privatisation and monopolies the majority need something to believe in, they need to believe that better things are to come and as they come to realise that the rich are fuckers they turn to religion and quite often extreme types of religion as a symbol of hope and promise, even though this is of no help to them.

… as they come to realise that the rich are fuckers they turn to religion and quite often extreme types of religion as a symbol of hope and promise, even though this is of no help to them …

Irony in them thar words, Shane … out of the rich fuckers frying pan, into the rich fuckers fire …

Its unnerving (occasionally) when I think that MOST of the human population are religious believers … in some sort of deity(ies)

The Lord’s Prayer at the opening of Westminster style parliaments and “In God We Trust” doesn’t help much either … I understand Vlad is a serious Orthodox believer too …

Not much else to choose from either … I’m certainly not a fan of Communism … Fascism nor Buddhism … atheism is too “absolute” in its “beliefs” for me …

Maybe I just prefer Realism … no-one is perfect, no-one can “actually” predict the future – not even tomorrow …

I know I like Presentism … ” … each day is a gift, that’s why we call it the present …”

    Que sera … c’est la vie …

    Enjoy!

    And vote Yes!

MALfunction’s petty turn down of Shorten’s offer yesterday to countersign a letter for the Yes vote demonstrates a tiny, bitter, vindictive mind …

I always suspected MALfunction was a Howard puppet in the Republic Referendum too … slippery as shyte and weak as piss …

I will most definitely be voting Yes !

I actually like a combination of Capitalism and Socialism like we actually had even during the Menzies years until Keating and Howard began the downward spiral.

I believe that essential services should be publicly owned. I believe we should have a publicly owned bank and private health fund and airline like we used to, which keeps the others profits and actions in check.

I believe we should have far more public housing like there used to be in the 60s and 70s.

I believe services for the elderly and accommodation for the elderly should still be in government hands to ensure our most vulnerable citizens are protected from greed and harm.

I believe our telecommunications and postal services should be publicly owned.

I believe that there should be no limit on a profit made, however if the profit exceeds a determined amount then the tax should increase and the requirement to employ more people should increase. This creates responsibility for the economy that is being drained for profit.

We are a massive country with a small population, our forefathers accepted high costs simply because they were needed to build networks around the whole country to service everyone no matter where they live for the same cost. Now there are so many taxpayers subsidies in so many areas because the new private companies that own our assets don’t want to operate in these fringe areas. It is driving services from the country areas.

FFS the only reason the NBN is in the country areas at all is because it is a government owned service at this stage.

I have no doubt that Menzies would be horrified at the actions of his so called Liberal party since the election of Howard and the rabid class warfare and division they have caused with their greed.

    (Maybe I just prefer Realism

Almost needless to say, I sometimes prefer to borrow a sense of realism, or at least a sense of perspective, from the Wachowskis.

    ———————————-

Also, I recall (‘SS’)M being introduced as a nominally ‘controversial’ seminar discussion topic way, way back in my first year at Uni; there was emergent advocacy in some US states to consider the idea, and some states were indeed considering it, in the form of pending bills, I was told; ‘homosexuality’ recently had been decriminalised here, and (advocacy for) (‘SS’)M was posited as a possibility here too, I was told; I remember, first, being perplexed by the idea that ‘homosexuality’ had ever been criminalised (wait, wtfwhy?), and thence wondering what was so controversial about anyones getting married, if they wanted to, given that I seemed hitherto to have lived a life involving a surfeit of extra ‘uncles’ and ‘aunts’, some of whom serial dated, some of whom possibly even had hot-n-steamy one-night-stands, as people of all sorts sometimes do, and some of whom lived as committed de factos, in perfectly ordinary households, some of those relationships presumably enduring through the ‘(de)criminalisation’ era(s), including some with kids, one way or another, and they all seemed pretty normal and likeable, as individual personalities and as families, and invariably they all treated me well; and then, as history tells, John Winston, deputy lapdog extraordinaire, leapt onto the religious-Right(s) DOMA (band)wagon, when state(s)-based bills began emerging here,

    ———————————-

I tend to find that the world’s a much more congenial place if I remember ‘you be who you are, and I’ll be who I am’; so, the proffered ‘it’s okay to say no’ isn’t really okay, I ratiocinate, if it’s object or corollary is to tell, directly or indirectly, others that they can’t be, or it’s not okay to be, who they are; or if it asks people to ignore that part of themselves which should be aware that others have agencies and beingnesses of their own; and, therefore, to ignore a common responsibility to (foster) relational reciprocity(ies); denying other consenting adults the possibility of effectively saying yes on their own behalves isn’t my place, even if Cory Bernardi and Co would go there, and apparently often, for an all-pervasive and essentially-contraconsensual latent menage-a-trois.

In short, then, to this mind, there is no real choice in (marriage) equality, and no necessary natural limit to that equality’s ambit, and no amount of appeal(s) to tradition(al prejudice(s), or for their exceptional conservations, is likely to prove particularly persuasive with me. In fact, I sometimes peruse ‘conservative’ expressions of their worst nightmarish fears, real and/or imagined, and reach the conclusion that whatever they’ve somehow managed to work themselves up into a massive tizzy about, very often, is good, even ideal, by me.

    ———————————

I know, not believe, that there are more things in the Cosmos than the pseudo-philosophies of superstitious deathcults and cargocults could dream, and even if some of those things happened to find or found some reference or another in certain supposedly-seminal texts, I’d still err on the side of wanting to science/math the shit out of them (the partial differential fringelands of arXiv can be quite interesting, I sometimes like to think).)

I go further. Yes to a publicly owned bank, health and education services, water and even some housing too.
There should be no taxpayer subsidies to private enterprise, so the private health & education services should be paid for by the consumers of it, not the taxpayers who don’t use it themselves. Religious profits should be taxed and just as much attention paid to freedom from religion as there is to freedom of religion, no laws should be made to serve religious belief and I can’t really see why marriage should be the domain of the churches either, marriage is a state responsibility as evidenced by the parliamentary debate now. Keep corporate lobbying out of parliament, stop the parasitic partnership between government and corporations, government should be serving the public interest and bring back regulations to keep business in check and protect public safety.

Most importantly, take our human rights and freedoms out of the realm of parliamentary whim and power and give us a bill of rights. Ensure we keep the corrupt bastards in check by a federal ICAC.

…Fascism may be defined as the subordination of every part of the State to a totalitarian and nihilistic ideology.

I argue that neoliberalism is a species of fascism because the economy has brought under subjection not only the government of democratic countries but also every aspect of our thought.

The state is now at the disposal of the economy and of finance, which treat it as a subordinate and lord over it to an extent that puts the common good in jeopardy…

Details of a police investigation were exposed in a Fairfax media investigation, revealing the big four banks β€” Westpac, ANZ, NAB, and CBA β€” were all implicated in money laundering scams by organised crime gangs. Other mid-tier banks are also reportedly involved.

The report claims crime syndicates exploited weak laws to open accounts or deposit money with minimal or false identification, allowing them to move around up to $5 million in drug money a day.

The report claims to expose gaping holes in the banks’ anti-money laundering systems. An investigation by anti-money laundering agency Austrac into the Commonwealth Bank exposed an alleged lack of oversight into money flows by the bank, but the latest revelations support suspicions questionable practices.

Key claims in the police investigation, according to Fairfax, include an outlaw bikie considering acquiring a branch of a mid-tier bank, and a Bank of Queensland branch being closed down following a money-laundering operation by a Mexican drug cartel.

The report also identified a number of cases of Hong Kong nationals exploiting the banks to launder up to $29 million in drug money.

One man was reportedly able to open two accounts while listing the casino as his address, and proceeded to make deposits of up to $50,000, on one occasion making 17 deposits of $9,500 or under in one day.

I cannot pretend to imagine if all of this is effecting you one way or another, but know that there are many in support of you and hoping and wishing this all comes to a close before too long, and before too much more hate is released.

Unfortunately, I think there is a way to go, but know you are not alone. At the least within our thoughts.

    HEAR! HEAR! TR!

Well said … been “discussing” this very subject and how those people being “judged” must be feeling.

We had (note, had!) one dissenter in our immediate family of eleven … all votes now posted … YES!

Haven’t come a cross a No voter in our circle of friends and acquaintances yet …

Curious at The Mad Abbott’s head butt story … wasn’t he a boxer in one of his alter egos?

It’s been yes from all my family too.

There were plenty of things Tony Abbott could have been head butted for. All his broken promises as soon as he got elected for one thing. Disliked the man intensely since he came to parliament in 1996.

Unless they interview the person how can he jump to a conclusion.

Abbott and Alan Jones started all this hate against especially politicians with the ditch the witch and throw her into the ocean in a bag campaign. What goes around comes around and it could have been a bit of good old karma, although I do not condone violence of any sort, but I seem to remember Tony Abbott had violent and threatening tendencies of his own while leading the right wing at uni.

Every now and then I like to stop by and see what stupid fucking comments the SnowflakeinQld has to post.

I’m never disappointed with confected rage. The confected anger is hilarious. Quite the dickhead

Moronic comments from idiots like the quote above are exactly the type of thing derailing the “Yes” vote (by the way I voted “Yes”)

This process has a long way to go and morons like him are the cause of a surging “No” campaign. The momentum has now shifted to the “No” vote because of dickheads like him

The next Essential poll or whatever are going to make for interesting reading

The Snowflake with his simpleton lunacy would do well to just shut the fuck up !

But hey he doesn’t read my comments anyway.

Awwwww … still can Astro actually read?

However, I agree wholeheartedly with you … The Snowflake with his simpleton lunacy would do well to just shut the fuck up ! And stop assaulting people physically of course …

And that applies to ALL Australians …

    Well somehow we kinda agree

I voted Yes because I am not surprisingly of the Alan Jones pov that Love can be so elusive that the State has no right to interfere or intrude into that.

    It’s very simple

People like your Moron mate from Qld with his stupid fucking “anger” about everything in Life should just shut their stupid gob up and fuck off out of the debate.

All because he is obviously very mediocre

    PERIOD

AO thanks for the Michael West twitter link, the stories linked to this regarding the CBA reinforce my comments in relation to the disaster it has become since the glory days of being a peoples bank and now a privatised monolith of profit and greed with no social responsibility. Ian Narev simply continued what began under David Murray and Ralph Norris.

  66. September 23, 2017 5:02 pm

The survey is a disgrace, as are some of the remarks being flung around by the likes of Shelton, Abetz and Abbott.

So it seems the boxer made the whole thing up about the assailant being a yes supporter, when it turns out he was an ordinary bod having a moment of clarity and simply ‘nutting the cunt’ as anyone might being confronted with that neanderthal roaming your streets.

So true reb Turnbull has really become a turncoat for so many beliefs he supposedly held.

The claims by the Neanderthals over abuse and violence, For fucks sake, gays have been abused, spat on, vilified, hated bashed and murdered by right wing cunts for decades and these arseholes complain about being victimised. They would not know the word victim.

Actually the LIBERAL Party/NATIONAL Party COALITION UNION of POLITICIANS have a lot to answer for … for at least a century! After less than five years of stagnation … nay … regression … a sign of the Catholic Churches approach to PROGRESS!

Where are they? Where are my dumbfcuking teabags?

They have gone to ground of course. Hiding out in the limited-news echo chamber to enjoy the ambience of the 1850s, ever since 4corners agreed with big-bad-bagz on inferno-cladding.

Beyond the 4corners ‘buildings wrapped in petrol’ info on inferno cladding coz we are ‘red-tape’ cutting and NOT upholding our materials’n safety laws. Future forensic fire reports will probably include; city/area copped a dose of asbestos particles via smoke/ash due to dodgey asbestos loaded material/s burning; escaping public and/or firemen were killed by collapsing items due to cheap NOT-fire rated materials being used, ETC

The inferno cladding will be the tip of the ice-cube of construction ‘cheating’ and buildings will have multiple faults due to multiple ‘cheats’.

Nra-teabags remaining rather quiet after gun-play in gun-tote’n nevada. Good for you shane. There is enough dumbfcuks in the world mindlessly chanting the kum-bar-yah they`ve been told to chant. Ultimately nothing good comes from practicing any form of reality `denial` whether it is religion, political or subject.
