You may have noticed…

December 4, 2017

You may have noticed that, like many other of our former contributors, I’m not around these parts much anymore.

I’ve come to the realisation that running a blog isn’t worth all the effort it requires particularly with a dwindling group of participants and especially with so many other forums for people to participate in.

But perhaps, more than a few months ago, it became apparent that this blog had degenerated from a place to one where we could talk about politics and life issues and such like, and instead become a place where people who had became so familiar with each other to some extent, could instead engage in public slanging match with some of the abuse becoming very personal and offensive.

From my perspective, there’s little point in running a blog where this sort of abuse was occurring – especially if it was being facilitated by me.

So I kind of stood back, occasionally venturing back in to see what the temperature was like, occasionally commenting, and then occasionally opting out for a while. But it was clear that the blog had become a shadow of its former sense.

During this time, a lot of people decided to opt permanently out and frankly who can blame them.

So this is just a note to thank everyone for making this place what it once was.

I’m mostly on Twitter these days and commenting at The Guardian where it’s much more fun and I don’t have to do any work..! 🙂

So thank youse all for being part of The Gutter Trash.

Thank you as well reb, and to all the others , I too am mostly over at the guardian commenting there, mainly because there are numerous stories to comment about.

Thanks reb. I had a lot of fun at this place in its glory days. I contributed my fair share of what I thought was good-natured snark but in the end it wasn’t fun anymore. I was becoming bitter and twisted so I retired. Toilet Boss retired some time before me and I think that was the beginning of the end for me.

This decline sort of reflects discussions I have in real life. These days everything is political. Everything is polarized. There seems to be less and less space for dispassionate discussions much less room for good-natured humour.

I wish you well, reb, and also all of the regulars here, past and present.

Suck it up princess, you know damn well the breeders have to spend important time with kids’n g’kids. Of course all our in-house teabags have gone into hiding as their hunger games dome of belief shatters and collapses in upon them. Can you imagine gay marriage proposals? ln parliament!! (-: Yes, you will also need a strategy to counter the legacy outlets as they continue to invade the satire space. When they go low, we go lower!

Sincerely appreciate your efforts over what must have been a decade, Reb.

Being time poor, and accumulating utter disdain for partisan politics, is what gradually had me falling away from blog commentary.

I generally appreciated the commenters here, of multivarious political stripes (except for the nasty, self important, delusional landscaping flog) and wish them all well.

I admit to reading the bilge of Bolt’s winged monkeys a few times a week. I still enjoy sneering at their contortions of logic and watching them concertina their ‘conservative principles’ to fit whatever Herr’s outrage de jour is at a given time. A self affirmation wankfest, if ever there was.

I consume multiple news sources and keep an eye on the state of the world, I can’t help it; old habits die hard I suppose.

I have switched to Chrome a while back, and learned that incognito mode means ‘fuck your paywall’.

I do read The Guardian, most days, and think I may have even seen you commenting there? If I ever get involved, you will recognise a toiletofmiscreation.
I find in the comments there a similar danger of self affirmation which I disparage the Boltards for, in that I agree with a lot of what people are saying; but not blindly agree, I like to think.

Once again, cheers to your prodigious efforts Sir…and to cheers to those whom I felt like I knew, or felt like they knew me; at least a part of eachother.

Hope I didn’t just duplicate comment, by way of wordpress login etc.

    Auf wiedersehen

    >From time to time l get my winged monkey bilge from teh drum on my abc. Todays bilge was, 1. work for dole bullshit, which failed to tell viewers that those receiving free labor also receive 3grand off the taxpayers, and, 2. sam dastary, lots of hyperventilating over much less than l have seen on vicenews and cyberwar. Glad to hear your keeping an eye on your confirmation bias, a year later, and the legacy outlets are still obsessed with a certain marketing and pr platform.

Hi HD – great to see you!

And thanks reb, this has been most enjoyable blog for about 8 of the 10 years that I participated. Almost all of the contributors have been intelligent, articulate, humorous and self depreciating.

It’s a pity, but I suppose everything has a use by date.

    Best wishes to (almost) everyone!

I will send some nonsense to that email.

I have really shut down in the last couple of years here, so apologies to those whom warrant some.

Thanks, sreb … for TEN fab years … and over a million hits … ya done good, son …

Tim Dunlop and most of the crew here (especially those above) kept me sane in the first year of my retirement and then drove me insane over the next ten! Thank youse all! 🙂

I too have snuck off to The Guardian (my mate, Kris, comments there) and I still read and comment @ (keep yer enema* closer).

Bit sad seeing everyone turn up at the funeral but it shows we all have good manners when it matters.

I like to think we had some tiny influence, somewhere, along the way … especially on those fkn Robber Barons!

Sad day for TGT … great day for the LGBTQI community … !

Ironically our kids and grandkids are drifting away too … just another phase on the conveyor belt of life … and I certainly don’t want to fall off just yet!!!

    Love youse all!

Wow. You too teebz, didn’t expect that. (and l don’t want to hear any managementy ‘resilience’ crap from you lot okay) l seem to be the only one here that doesn’t read a certain anti-ronald echo chambers comments. You folks might need to take a break from the guardian induced pity party as the-ronald still has (at least) three years to go, and the echo chambers will not be getting any better during this time. Now viewers will just have to wait and see if reb is just having his 18-monthly hissey fit. Or will reb slam shut his blog forever handing ultimate victory to teabags everywhere? Tune in next time for the (possible) final exciting episode!

tbagz … start your own blog … I’ll comment … but recognise that our blogmeister is moving up the conveyor of life … a constantly changing horizon …

He’s put in a massive effort for a decade …

I commented here for two reasons … well, three actually .. nah, four … probably five … actually six* …

    I’ve always enjoyed debating …

    I hoped I could make a difference …

    I learned … how I fkn learned!

    I felt that I belonged …

I hoped that I could inform and help people …

I met some very, very, smart and interesting people …

And its true you old bastards … men get more sentimental as they get older … LIVE with it!

*That I can remember … chuckle!

Teebz, start a blog, l’m still locked out of my old one, (and definitely too busy in 2018 repairing or junking salvaged gear that has the workshed stuffed to the brim) to try and write one. Hope he isn’t on a conveyor belt, they usually only drop folks on top of the nearest slag heap. Lets hope he has joined the recent marriage stampede, shall we.

  22. December 10, 2017 8:30 pm

“Lets hope he has joined the recent marriage stampede”

    It’s funny you should mention that…. 🙂

  23. December 11, 2017 1:14 am

Did I mention how much I enjoy the brutal ‘Fuck You’ which the moderate majority has handed the conservative religious cnuts in the recent (supposed to be a delaying stumbling block) postal survey?

It’s things like that which restore a modicum of my faith in the better side of tolerant human natural inclinations.

Only the absolute fuckwits vociferously stood against it.

    Reality denying pricks.

  24. December 11, 2017 1:21 am

” moving up the conveyor of life … a constantly changing horizon …”

    Unholy fuck, TB.

    I ken you.

I went to my daughter’s High School graduation yesterday; it made me feel waaaaay more ancient than turning 42 a couple of days prior. I have genuine trepidation about her leaving home, for higher education purposes; but only because it will mean empty nest and I will miss her keenly.
    Grandkids drifting away seems similar.

Best wishes to you and yours.

Big congrats to you and partner reb, sounds like ya’got a date set (-: (-: l suppose you guys will be enjoying being guests at other rainbow friends weddings too, in not too distant future (-: @dunny l too enjoyed the ‘surveyed’ putting the zombies on ‘all-fours’ in front of the rest of the world too @much.glee

Congratulations to you and V sreb, from The Minister and me!

I thought that was a “never, ever” … hope you have a great innings – (we rack up 50 years in September …)

    Grandkids drifting away seems similar.

Yes and no, toylet, (hard to explain) the relationship with grandkids seems “stronger” somehow … The Minister and I reckon its our own fault we spent most of our adult lives ensuring they were all independent and contributors … ’tis odd though, we may not see them for weeks … all in the same street remember … having said that life’s good …

Best wishes to you and yours for the coming years … enjoy …

(“Have a nice day” … “What! Only a day! Have a fabulous life!” – the reactions and facial expressions are amazing …

  27. December 11, 2017 5:50 pm

    Thanks TB… 🙂

l watched “im a strong leader” on qandaland tonight. What a lying sack of shit. The only ‘skill’ the wimp has is the ability to waffle away the alloted time to answer the question, and didn’t fool studio audience or viewers. Only the clowntown press pack.

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
