Australia’s highest-ranking Catholic condemned to prison as a sex offender
George Pell will remain behind bars after his appeal against a conviction for sexually abusing two choirboys was dismissed by the Victorian Court of Appeal.
- Pell slumped in his chair and blankly looked into space on hearing the ruling
- Pell’s haters could be heard cheering outside the court house amid celebrations
- The disgraced Cardinal had previously compared himself to Jesus suffering persecution through the trial
- Pell’s actions in the prison dock showed a defeated man contemplating his fate behind bars
The court in a two-to-one decision on Wednesday upheld the original conviction, meaning Australia’s most senior Catholic official must serve out his six-year sentence with a non-parole period of three years and eight months.
On hearing the decision after the 15 second delay, a loud cheer could be heard from outside the Supreme Court where Pell’s detractors had congregated.
After the judgement was read out, Pell – wearing his priestly robes for likely the last ever time – was escorted to a prisoner transport van and taken back to jail.
He had waited for this moment for nine long weeks.
In legal circles, such a wait usually indicates the kiss of death.
Innocent men are not made to wait in jail for such lengthy periods while judges make their decisions on their fate.
And at the end of the day, the cunt lost.
He’s innocent!
And so the High Court will hold!
:groan: 😦
So can we expect that John Howard will be in high demand for his “character reference” services?
(I suspect not).
howard should be in demand for jack shit after this
In fact, there is a range of conservative figures who SHOULD be run out of public life for their stance here.
They won’t.
Interesting Graphic
I seem to be locked into the last fred ,,, ToM’s stalking me!

So can we expect that John Howard will be in high demand for his “character reference” services?
They’ll just go to The Mad Abbott?
And they still keep voting for these dodgy, religious, incompetent, thieves and liars to run their lives!
I see Happy Clappy is eager to go to war on TWO fronts … WTF is it with these LOVING religious folk?
WTF … Firefox?
Dont forget that one of the judges was going to let the dirty filthy child rapist walk free, so when it goes to the high court if 4 of the judges are like him then it wont be Pell iIn A Cell it will be Pell With The Gel.
Oh, jOC … I haven’t had dinner yet!
Yes one of the judges was not convinced
https://www.watoday.com.au/national/victoria/why-justice-mark-weinberg-believed-george-pell-should-go-free-20190821-p52jaj.html
Justice Weinberg, a former Federal Court judge who presided over the trial of Melbourne’s Bourke Street killer James Gargasoulas last year, said there was a body of evidence that made it “impossible to accept” the victim’s account.
“From … the complainant’s evidence, it can be seen that there was ample material upon which his account could be legitimately subject to criticism. There were inconsistencies, and discrepancies, and a number of his answers simply made no sense,” Justice Weinberg wrote in his judgment released on Wednesday.
“An unusual feature of this case was that it depended entirely upon the complainant being accepted, beyond reasonable doubt, as a credible and reliable witness. Yet the jury were invited to accept his evidence without there being any independent support for it.”
After assessing the evidence presented at Pell’s County Court trial last year, Justice Weinberg said he would have quashed the cardinal’s five convictions for child sex offences.
Yes, two of the judges were completely convinced, one, not 100%
That’s why we have three, so there is no ‘split’ decision.
2 out of three IS a decision
The kiddy fiddler got caught
What is it with the right wings support of not only Nazis, but also pedophiles?
So, we can’t believe the ABS press releases. How soon before the data itself is compromised (or is it already?)

I m not supporting Pell. Based on my limited amount of legal knowledge it is amazing that it even made it to trial.
Bill Shorten was accused of something in the 1980’s but the allegation never made it to trial because there was no other evidence. Just one persons testimony. The person is still around making the same allegation but police will not do anything because there is no other evidence. The Pell case seems very similar.
You should not be able to make a case on the testimony of one person Read what Justice Weinberg about Pell said in the link
Hi nil
You’re a piece of shit 🙂
I am not saying Pell is not guilty but based on my very limited knowledge the case should never have made it to court. There is more evidence that Bill Shorten should be taken to court than Pell
Who woulda thunk … time to go Donny!
… based on my very limited knowledge … of just about anything …
And you’ve served on how many juries?
Another pedophile defender like bolt and nil
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/feb/27/tony-abbott-says-george-pell-verdict-is-devastating?CMP=share_btn_tw
I have not served on any juries. I am saying based on my limited knowledge of legal stuff which is close to zero, the case should never have made it to court even if the crime did happen.
What is it with catliks and their abhorrent defense of pedophiles?
I WISH there was a hell for you pigs
This is what pedophile defenders are doing to our kids
I am not Catholic. Based on what I have read which is limited, Pell was convicted on the testimony of one person. There was NO evidence. No DNA, no eyewitness, no fingerprint, nothing. Based on what I know a case like that normally would not make it to court even if the crime did occur.
There is more evidence for Bill Shortens crime I think. But it never made it to court because there was no other evidence
What is it with you lefties and your inability to tell truth from falsehood?
nil wants to defend a convicted pedophile, while slurring an innocent person.
You’re a piece of shit nil!
“Based on what I know a case like that normally would not make it to court even if the crime did occur.”
That sentence says all you really need to know about Neil.
OK I know nothing about legal stuff. Who does? But based on what I have read is that we are all in serious trouble if you can be convicted based on the testimony of one person with NO other evidence.
The Victorian police threw out a case against Bill Shorten on that basis
holy shit, the police threw out a case, based on ………… what they knew (laymans terms for ‘evidence’!)
Hey nil
You’re still a piece of shit!
“conflicted”?
“I believe both [men],” Archbishop Comensoli said.
https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/george-pell/2019/08/22/melbourne-archbishop-george-pell/
This really is appalling, from so many people.
No I think the Victorian legal system is a piece of shit. I have no reason to support Pell apart from the fact there was no vigorous legal process. It was all based on the testimony of one person. Read what Justice Weinberg said.
I think the Victorian legal system is a piece of shit
Interestingly, bolt etal have in the past screamed about the Vistorian legal system being too lenient.
How that worm turned.
As for “here was no vigorous legal process.”
So, are you saying the two who were absolutely convinced are not applying rigour? I think that there is a legal term for that, which I hope is applied to these pedophile protectors from the right
“OK I know nothing about legal stuff. Who does?”
If I had to hazard a guess, I might suggest barristers, solicitors, QCs and judges.
You know, the ones who found Pell guilty after a thorough and exhaustive process.
OK. The legal system in Victoria found Pell guilty. That is a fact.
RIP Tim Fischer …
“The legal system in Victoria found Pell guilty. That is a fact.”
It’s almost as if you were trying to make a point, but then…nothing happened.
Let’s be clear, no judge found him innocent.
Two judges found him to be guilty, with no doubt, one judge could not find beyond reasonable doubt.
This monster ruined lives. Think on that when you defend him
This monster ruined lives.
And not just the young boy he was found guilty of molesting … all the boys that were molested by other priests that he protected as Archbishop …
And Tony Abbott referred to him as a Mentor … what a mentor he must have been!
And Happy Clappy Scotty is cast in the same mould!
No I think the Victorian legal system is a piece of shit.
No, Kneel, you don’t think at all!
I know you say you’re anti all religions TB, but do you have an equivalent to “cstlicks” for Muslims (for example)?
Or is that religion a particular/special target for your bigotry?
Or is that religion a particular/special target for your bigotry?
Do you know anyone who has experienced rape … ToM?
What about domestic violence … ToM?
How many juries have you served on … ToM?
Do you know what bigotry actually is … ToM?
What religion do you favour … ToM?
What do you think about the Jewish community … ToM?
Or the Indian community … ToM?
And what about Tim Fischer’s demise … ToM?
When did you study … active listening … ToM?
Are you familiar with transactional analysis … ToM?
What about pedophilia in religious institutions … ToM?
Australians are working(?) hard for that elusive surplus 😉 😦
Pedophile defenders are the same everywhere, full of shit!
All those questions TB… it’s look over there!
Do you have a ridiculing name for people of other faiths and religious beliefs? Or is your bigotry really limited to “catlicks”?
… it’s look over there!
Isn’t that what you were doing?
And, I know I am more bigoted against xtians than any other faith, but that’s because I’ve had far more negative contact with them.
catliks I’ve always disliked, mainly from rumours, which have all turned out to be proven facts these days.
They should be an outlawed organisation.
So yomm, do you agree that pell is guilty?
Or has our legal system broeken down?
I’m satisfied that he’s had a fair trial, and I have no argument with the outcome.
But it’s great to see that you accept you’re a bigot.
Although you generally don’t accept the right of others to use personal experience as the basis of their opinions/orientation.
“… it’s look over there!”
Isn’t that what you were doing?
EXACTLY
It seems like ToM’s in one of those moods again where he’s just looking for an argument and throwing out lines to see if he can catch one.
It’s a bit weird, tbh.
It’s a bit weird, tbh.
Yes, but he has cum to the right place 😉
Although you generally don’t accept the right of others to use personal experience as the basis of their opinions/orientation.
I’d have described it more as ‘to use bullshit’ as the basis 😉
Speaking of the ipa, is pell still a member?
No, I’m just applying the accepted practice of this blog- identifying bigots and hypocrites
So yomm, are you bigoted against pedophiles?
Do you think there’s a difference between criminality and spirituality?
Do you think there’s a difference between criminality and spirituality?
are you bigoted against pedophiles?
No, I’m just applying the accepted practice of this blog- identifying bigots and hypocrites
First define “bigot” and “hypocritical” in the context of the Catholic Church and my comments …
And answer one one those questions above … How many juries have you served on?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do you think there’s a difference between criminality and spirituality?
Do you think they are the same???
Do you think they are the same???,/i>
The way things stand, there’s an ever narrowing thin line between them 😉
Definition of bigot. : a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.
Definition of hypocrite. 1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion. 2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.
Definition of not answering a question
yomm
He’s our own skateaway 😉
ToM … your source?
It is considered correct process to verify the authenticity of the source of “definitions”
eg
Bigot: A person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.
Origin:
Late 16th century (denoting a superstitious religious hypocrite): from French, of unknown origin.
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/bigot
Hypocritical: Behaving in a way that suggests one has higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/hypocritical
Do you have a ridiculing name for people of other faiths and religious beliefs? Or is your bigotry really limited to “catlicks”?
Well according to, lexico, I’m no bigot … but many religious believers are … and it seems they are also hypocrites …
I have only ever highlighted bigotry and hypocrisy in religious/semi religious organisations – usually based upon extremes that demonstrate hypocrisy, theft, cheating, lying, secretive actions, meddling in state affairs and ignoring the separation of state and religion (Parliaments still say the Lord’s Prayer – how does that work in a multi-religious and declared secular country?)
As for catlicks … as a religious group they have caused me more heartache and pain than any other organisation I have ever had contact with … like all the major religions in Australia THEY want to control the population … and like all major religions (and many smaller churches and cults) they are run by MEN and controlled by MEN … and the evidence is pretty obvious in right wing politics that “religious” “men” believe in controlling women and their bodies and minds … and any other group they think they can enslave, the young, the weak, the old, LGBTI community the list goes on …
Call me a bigot … I don’t GAF … if religious hypocrites and bigots make fools of themselves and others and continue to hurt people to control them … then:
I will speak up – every fucking time!
Now answer my question … why do you want to know? 🙂
Doesn’t Happy Clappy SloMo realise that he has won the election or is he just wasting time and everyone else’s energy? Doing SFA!
Just in
A bigot isn’t simply being intolerant of other opinions. If that was the definition, every politician would be a bigot. They aren’t.
Being a bigot requires intolerance towarss a particular type of group. Cultural, racial, religious… that’s why you qualfy, but not every opinionated person is a bigot.
Being a bigot requires intolerance towarss a particular type of group.
I’m guessing you mean “towards” …
You do realise that the catlicks (I stopped using that term but you’ve reintroduced it) are intolerant of atheists, agnostics, protestants, blacks, women, any other religion … ?
that’s why you qualfy, but not every opinionated person is a bigot.
I think you meant … “qualify” … I know, it happens when you are angry and frustrated and typing quickly to make a point … or typing on a surfboard? … do you really surf? You don’t like competition much …
Who says I “qualify”?
So what you are saying is that I’m a bigot for calling out catlicks … because you say so? (Be careful now – that’s a question!)
BTW … how many juries have you served on?
And come to think of it … you didn’t answer your OWN question … does that mean you disregard other people’s opinions? Making you …. w a i t f o r i t ! A BIGOT!
AND?
Do you think there’s a difference between criminality and spirituality?
Do you think they are the same???
A bigot isn’t simply being intolerant of other opinions. If that was the definition, every politician would be a bigot. They aren’t.
Prove that statement!
I can easily disprove it!
Chuckle … which Catholic church do you support … chuckle …
ToSY … they are not talking about you … I’ve never seen you that way … misguided maybe but never a cunt …
This may cheer you up …

What a pity the G7 is meeting in Biarritz. I was there for a month- June/July
It has great surf, wonderful restaurants/cafes, and now Trump is there to spread his crap all over it.
Just trying to follow through that tweets lofic Tony. It’s not easy 😉
lofic? logic
I see our grubmint is pleading with business not to do what their policies have enabled them, put profits ahead of wages.
Dickheads
More ALP division!!
And much of that is directly the fault of albanese. He should have researched before telling Setka to leave.
And the Supreme Court has given the green light to the federal executive to give Setka the boot. That should be even more fun!
yep, albos fighting Unionists, not Tories
he’s a fuckwit.
That’s interesting. So you think about half the ALP leaders since Keating are fuckwits.
Does that fill you with confidence about the talent in the party?
So the Government is “going after” tradies who accept “cashies” … the multinationals must be too hard or donate more …
A “””mate”””” of mine voted Liberal because he was now a “businessman” … he was a fucking tiler that his brother had “trained” (his brother was qualified) …
Just for the record, my “”””mate”””” was a “qualified” — wool classer …

That’s interesting. So you think about half the ALP leaders since Keating are fuckwits.
Apologies for butting in … but I do … but it beats 100% fuckwits in the government.
And Don’t Blame Me – I Voted Labor!
the Supreme Court has given the green light to the federal executive to give Setka the boot
There ya go again … that’s not what the Court said … that’s what you said …
The more you prattle I know you ain’t educated … no referencing … pure “I know better than anyone” shyte … and someone once told you to answer a question with a question … you wobble with a little knowledge … probably promoted via Peter’s Principle …
You’re problem is — we know what you aren’t!

Agree … sadly … Bill Shorten was our best chance … the only one I can see working effectively at the moment is Kenneally … and I was not a “fan” – still not … but …
So you think about half the ALP leaders since Keating are fuckwits.
2 aint half, genius, so stop making shit up.

It’s kinda his thing, he’s our skateaway, “he’s makin’ movies ………… he don’t know what it means” 😉
Latham, Rudd and Albanese is 2 ???
I’d forgotten about latham
I stand corrected, about half the ALP leaders since Keating are fuckwits.
But, as TB said, it’s better than all of them 😉

yep, they’re all pretty fucked right now. And nsw labor aren’t helping them at all (like they ever did)
Mind you, could you imagine the outcry had several Labor leaders (fuckwits or not) who vociferously (memories 🙂 ) defended a convicted pedophile, AFTER his conviction?
“And nsw labor aren’t helping them at all (like they ever did)”
I know someone very very very well who when he worked for a certain Sydney CBD property developer circa 1986 had to make arrangements to cash a cheque for $200k and have the cash delivered to a very very high ranking state government minister.
Apparently the safe of the Commonwealth Bank in Martin Place is an architectural marvel with all of its ornate trimmings on the walls and ceilings………………….or so he told me.
.or so he told me.
And he lived to tell the tale?
Who’d have thought that centerlink lie?
Everything is fucked, basically.
Australia is just a little bit less fucked (at the moment) than the rest of the world.
Apparently, $2 is the average monthly income in Venezuela.
So $4 an hour to wash cars is absolute luxury (or so Miss White Trash would have us believe I suppose).
“And he lived to tell the tale?”
It’s certainly not a “tale” but yes he did.
I remember him detailing to me how difficult it was to find a Commonwealth Bank branch that carried that much cash on a typical Wednesday morning (he diarized the entire day in a black leather diary just in case of any later ramifications).
Finally the Town Hall bank manager suggested Commonwealth Bank Martin Place as it held millions in its underground vault.
Well that’s what he told me
I was just listening to the ABC, interviewing Wayne Swan. What a complete loudmouth, waffling bulls*** artist.
Thankfully we don’t have to put up with him these days.
It’s certainly not a “tale” but yes he did.
I didn’t mean to imply that, I didn’t have reason not to believe it. I worked briefly in the finance district in Sydney. It was filthy
And not just physically
What a complete loudmouth, waffling bulls*** artist.
incisive take down yomm 😉
But, was he wrong? After all, he is one of the main reasons that “Australia is just a little bit less fucked (at the moment) ” 🙂
Then again, we could be (probably are) more fucked than we know (or are led to believe)

Australia is just a little bit less fucked (at the moment) than the rest of the world.
Like the GFC … there are signals – but more of them … market jitters, business fails, business downsizing, projected massive jobs losses, stagnation of household incomes, large corporate/shareholder profits (the “successful” ones), massive household debt, low interest mortgages, political inconsistency of policies, an obsession with surplus, attacks on the most vulnerable in our society (again), corruption both political and corporate, an increase in protest groups, the inequality of haves and have-nots (extremely rich and extremely poor), lies/deceit/ cheating, disrespect for police/paramedics- ambos/rescue (police or fire) and authority in general … the list is longer BUT they are all signals of a breakdown in global and national society norms …
Read your history … and what bothers me are these disturbing factors for Australia …
… the rise of religious right wing extremism (where do they come from?) – that historically lead to wars …
… trade wars – that historically lead to real wars …
… the manipulation of established democratic principles that generations of soldiers, sailors and air personnel have either volunteered or been “press ganged” into defending …
We live in exciting times alright …
An obsession with surplus? I don’t see that but if we had been running budgets surpluses we may not have recessions. Debt has been exploding since the GFC so the next recession will most probably be worse
… the rise of religious right wing extremism

“Albo has failed to launch”
I think he’ll come good, and there’s 3 years until an election. The ALP would be wise to reset their message – less focus on the class warfare of Shorten

Now the Melbourne bike hire scheme has been abandoned. It was doomed from the time they decided a helmet was required.
So people can’t just hire a bike to get around, they have to BUY a helmet.
People don’t want to buy a helmet just so that they can hire a bike for 40 minutes
At first I thought: urinals should be banned because they are a symbol of the patriarchy, not to mention manpissing. But then I figured: leave them there and let everyone use them. After all, why should only penis owners be allowed to pee standing up?

ALP in diabolical situation!
On the upside, at least it’s being recognized.
There was an article in the newspaper this morning, no link, about the struggle politicians have in finding work after they are turfed out of their seat. My reaction- who gives a F***
Maybe if they entered parliament after they’d established a career, they could return to it. But most just go from uni to electioal assistant (or union official) to political advisor to pre selection.
They know nothing else.

Clever question, ToM – as usual – The case of the Tamil family from Biloela (I’ve been there often BTW and met quite a few of the townsfolk in the late 90’s/early 2000’s!) is one of HUMAN concern … not christianity …
… but the present Happy Clappy Messiah talks about hope and prayers … but certainly doesn’t walk the talk … he’s a self centred hypocrite …

I’m agnostic … you are obviously a christian … I’ll challenge any and all religions’ hypocrisy … with or without your blessing …

I’m sick of your government and their dumb and dumber supporters

Do you really think asylum seeker policy is a subset of Christianity?

I think it is entirely understandable to loathe people that have used their position of trust to abuse vulnerable children in their care, and the officials that concealed the crimes.
But, it is bigoted to assign the guilt to the entire community they belong to.
There are people that need a sense of faith or spirituality to give meaning to their life and I’m not inclined to ridicule them.

Speaking of bigoted
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has conceded he ordered the release of new data on Sri Lankan boat arrivals to “keep the threat of illegal arrivals” alive.
https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2019/09/02/scott-morrison-sri-lankan/
My comments about union officials are not general. They are directed to those in construction, manufacturing and mining. There’s 3 or 4 that are the main offenders and there is plenty of evidence of their bullying and thuggish behaviour.
and there is plenty of evidence of their bullying and thuggish behaviour.
Shame a certain Royal Commission doesn’t agree with you.
And that was a bigoted one too 🙂
I stopped short of saying – criminal. But that applies to Setka.
Yea, when the criminal charges are made of things like the police charging you for a domestic which your wife doesn’t want to prosecute, but they do anyway, then ……. somethings up with the system
And recall, many of those who want to crucify Setka for losing it after years of bullying from certain quarters, are the same ones who now defend a convicted pedophile.

BTW, ToM, its been explained to you before … calling out religious hypocrisy is not bigotry … its challenging the decisions that religious believers make … they, or you, can believe what they/you want – I’m agnostic remember – but the Tamils from Biloela need charity and kindness, not to be played with like a political football …
It was the Prime Minister that used the phrase – “with prayer and hope” … he hasn’t shown any to a young, battling New Australian family living and working in an accepting rural/regional town in Queensland … those people “know” whether they “fit” the community – let them decide … not a bunch of hard headed, mean spirited politicians …
Why do you believe they should be deported?
… calling out religious hypocrisy is not bigotry …
But saying each catlicks carries the guilt because they remained in “the club” is extreme bigotry.
” Why do you believe they should be deported?”
Because on 7 occasions the Courts have found that they are not refugees further evidence of this is that the father has traveled back to SL 3 times.
You either come here the proper way or you get deported.
They have used every legal avenue to stay which is why they have been here 7 years.
Kick them out NOW !
They can then reapply from SL and then the government has an even bigger opportunity to send the message you must apply the correct way.
And dont start on au pairs there is absolutely no comparison to a couple of backpackers traveling on the wrong visa to work here.
Doing so just shows how little depth your argument has
when the criminal charges are made of things like the police charging you for a …. range of serious crimes such as assault by kicking, assault of police, theft …stretching back many years
“Of the charges successfully pursued by police 20 years ago, Mr Setka was found guilty five times of assaulting police, five times of assault by kicking, seven times for wilful trespass, five times for resisting arrest, once for theft and once for attempted theft by deception.
The Australian reported in May that Mr Setka had been jailed twice after being found in contempt of court. ”
https://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/rap-sheet-reveals-60-charges-for-would-be-union-boss-john-setka/news-story/a7be856aaf25e3120b660a8a995c15e2
I suppose you are still defending Craig Thomson too
Yes, I haven’t followed the case of the SL family. My default position is to support the legal process and rights of appeal.
And dont start on au pairs there is absolutely no comparison to a couple of backpackers traveling on the wrong visa to work here.
Don’t know the story but they may be able to work legally. I know you can go to the USA and work without a visa because I did it. There is the visa waver program between Australia and the USA where you can go to the USA for 3 months for business or pleasure. I went on business and worked but I was paid by my employer from Australia so I broke no law.
And I went another time on a business visa for longer than 3 months where I was not allowed to be paid but the USA company I worked for paid for my lodging and gave me “expenses” so I could buy stuff to eat. I actually got a lot of money even though I was not allowed to be paid a wage.
I am sure au pairs can be paid for board and lodging if they do some work. They just cannot be paid a wage
(Yes, I haven’t followed the case of the SL family. My default position is to support the legal process and rights of appeal.
GLWT)
support the legal process and rights of appeal.
You know they changed the legal process after they arrived, don’t you.
Chicken Curry, yums 🙂
” been jailed twice after being found in contempt of court.”
It can be argued the courts often deserve contempt. Just ask Pell 😉
The ‘legal’ process in action
“It was the Prime Minister that used the phrase – “with prayer and hope” … he hasn’t shown any to a young, battling New Australian family living and working in an accepting rural/regional town in Queensland …..”
Oh I get it. So immigration policy should now be determined on religious grounds according to our resident chief mullah from Queensland
Organized Crime. Organized Skyfairy. ls there a difference. Pell has been looking like the dogfather of an international PedoFileMafia for quite some time now. Keep him in the gulag with El-Chappo.
If you find it safe enough to repeatedly return to SL, the chances are that you’re probably not requiring assylum
But that’s a matter for the legal process, not for politicians
If you find it safe enough to repeatedly return to SL
do you have a link for that?
It was my understanding he hasn’t left the country since he arrived here?
I also heard a story about his fiance being burned?
Unfortunately l`ve noticed albo is quite underwhelming too, in a kim beazleyish way, can`t say l see what da-memebership/s see in him. This article suggests that visits back to Sri Lanka are prejudicial to his claims
So, he traveled to and fro back when he lived there. Because, people gotta work, no matter how bad it is.
You understand Palestinians travel in and out of Israel. It’s not from choice.
That’s pathetic
Everywhere I’ve read it online has alluded that he went from here.
If the legal process has found they are not a genuine asylum seekers, I’m not sure why a politician should overturn the decision.
The fact is the husband lied by saying on his application to be granted refugee status that he was forced to fight with the Tamil Tigers. That has ben found to be utter bullshit
There is no way that could have been true if he was free to travel to the Middle East.
However it is heatening to se Kristina Kenneally making speeches to activist groups who want to dismantle the borders. Its a great association for someone who is the ALPs Immigration spokesperson who claims they are in lockstep with government policy.
It just demonstrates to the electorate that the ALP cannot be trusted on tight borders.
The woman is a TV camera seeking fool
I’m not sure why a politician should overturn the decision.
Could it be because he has done it thousands of times before?
Could it be because, as the politician THAT CHANGED THE RULES on them, perhaps he might consider those RULES ARE NOW WRONG!
I see the AFP are bored again.

This seems to be going well! Union affiliation is such a positive for the ALP.

So, the organization that just hosted a money making dinner for the unions political enemy writes a story about offices being moved (has this EVER happened before 😯 ) and, without attribution anywhere, decide it’s a ‘rift’, and then proceed to list a litany of allegations, and, on the one piece of information that is accurate, fail to mention that he was sending the messages TO HIS WIFE!!

oh yea, miss lib herself ROFL
Our media is broeken, far more so than when I started pointing out to you how broeken it was years ago.
It’s a media conspiracy!!
Setka is nice and he only has about 20 criminal convictions and they were only for things like assault by kicking. Nothing serious.
I’m just saying that the media have decided, without a word from anybody, the reasons for something.
And used that to repeat allegations that continue to smear a political enemy
And bigots lap it up.
Yes, I doubt whether a political activist from the CFMMEU national office would have provided the media with the story. Because it’s just an invention by the media conspiracy!!
Because it’s just an invention by the media conspiracy!!

So it’s all really unsurprising

Hopefully its the first crack in the right wing re-resurgence since before WWII … people don’t forget … they just don’t know …
Hopefully, Trump’s next … and then maybe a domino effect …
Have you considered what could happen to Australia if Iran suddenly became belligerent (as Trump is now and Isreal) and actually went to war?
Do you get the sense that so many right wing led countries want to rattle the sabre … and left wing countries want to retaliate … ?
Is it time for Australia to become the Switzerland of Asia?
I’m not going to turn into Nasking, but… the Optus advert that’s been playing made me look at this! Hilarious and fun!

Being the nation of deepest embedded roid-cream in teh yank arse; it would be the longest and hardest journey for clowntown politicians to undertake for “Australia to become the Switzerland of Asia“; dare l say; a mission impossible. They will all continue to grovel.

I heard an interesting bit of info the other day. Not only was the referendum vote for Brexit was 52% to 48% but astonishingly an analysis of the vote found that out of the 650 odd seat parliament over 400 seats voted in the majority for Brexit as well with many of those Labour seats
Universities should stop trying to stymie debate. Hope this payment causes a little reflection.
The Federal Circuit Court has awarded Peter Ridd $1.2 million in damages after earlier finding James Cook University acted unlawfully in sacking the physics professor.
Dr Ridd was dismissed by the university last year after he repeatedly questioned colleagues’ research on the impact of global warming on the Great Barrier Reef, criticising the work as untrustworthy and “misleading”.

I think current polling on Brexit is still about 50/50. So despite people now fully understanding the likely difficulty and consequences, there has been no measurable swing back to remain.
Open, uncontrolled borders is probably the main concern of voters.
It seems to be an international sentiment.
“Open, uncontrolled borders is probably the main concern of voters.”
Exactly. The poms are getting swamped by people from Eastern Europe. Put a pile of money of the table and watch people come running
Over at your guardian echo chamber they are having a fine bit of sport with theBoris ol`chap. gfv nhi Shane Warne on Brexit: ‘Get on with it’
Shane Warne has said that the UK should just “get on with” Brexit, telling the (bbc)Today programme: “Boris is good, everyone’s great, it’s a great country”.
Asked if the Ashes could be a distraction from Brexit, the former Australian leg-spinner said that as an `outsider` he was amused by suggestions “people didn`t know what they were voting for” in the 2016 EU referendum.
He spoke to Today ahead of the fourth Ashes Test, in a week where the government is taking on the Commons over no-deal Brexit and a possible general election.

(I thought we were meant to ‘listen to the muzak‘: oh well.)
I think ACOSS misses the point about drug and alcohol testing of unemployed people.
Many/most employers conduct a pre employment medical test, which usually includes drug and alcohol testing.
If people are seeking work they should be able to present for this examination in a condition that will pass the test, otherwise they will not gain employment
Employers in many industries have safety procedures that include random drug and alcohol testing.
Unemployed people and those seeking work have to be aware of the standards of fitness for work that will be required of them, and the the time to get ready is before being tested by a prospective employer, neglecting this will simply cause them to remain unemployed.
https://www.acoss.org.au/media_release/governments-drug-testing-policy-demeaning-and-flawed/
Is that a heart I see there yomm?
Or just common sense filtering through?
This is just another form of punching down on people, with no evidence to show it will help. Like the indue card, the evidence is all against it.
The indue card itself is a horrendous way to inflict pain and suffering on the poor and/or unfortunate, and to further push taxpayers dollars into their mates wallets, this will only exasperate this
Guess torturing brown people just isn’t doing it anymore?
(Hands up everyone who think taxpayer money should support the tobacco industry and illicit drug dealers
Ooh, me, me; err, no, not me: them, them; but, only ‘coz this citizen is kinda hooked on the idea of (il)legitimate(d) (un)der)employment; as a(n im)personal-shopper; for a ‘Government’ pushing Indue Blues as (a(nti)social panacaea.)
It stands to reason that if employers require a pre employment drug test, they will decline employment to those that don’t pass it.
What’s the right time to have unemployed people ready for this if it isn’t while they’re unemployed?
What’s the right time to have unemployed people ready for this if it isn’t while they’re unemployed?
When they get to that stage of the employment process perhaps?
Also, we don’t need drug test for our employment. Why should I, if/when I become unemployed, be required to pass a test for something I am not going to be required for?
When they get to that stage of the employment process perhaps?
All that happens then is that they are unsuccessful, they haven’t been able to get themselves ready for employment.
You would be amazed at the number of people that test positive in a pre employment medical, even though they can schedule the appointment at a time of their choice, and are advised in advance that there will be a drug & alcohol test.
Too many people just don’t bother to get themselves ready for employment and I don’t think the time to consider getting yourself ready to pass a d&a test is just before talking it.
Also, we don’t need drug test for our employment. Why should I, if/when I become unemployed, be required to pass a test for something I am not going to be required for?
I don’t understand what you mean.
You would be amazed at the number of people that test positive in a pre employment medical,
I would be very interested to know just how many, ToM?
I don’t understand what you mean.
I mean, for my job, which I am qualified for, WHEN I become unemployed (because that is how work is these days), WHY should I be required to a drug test?
My employment does not require it.
Why should I be stigmatized for something that is not appropriate to my occupation?
I would be very interested to know just how many, ToM?
Don’t go confusing the issue with data and evidence TB
“Compassionate Conservatives” call those things Straw Men 😉
Tom R, I don’t know which industry you work in, but… manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, anything that requires driving or use of machinery/equipment, mining, most building & construction, maintenance, labour contracting, councils,, power generation & distribution, telecommunications, airlines… require drug and alcohol testing.
That’s quite a lot of areas of employment to opt out of.
That’s quite a lot of areas of employment to opt out of.
Well done for not addressing my point 😉
“You would be amazed at the number of people…”
According to research carried out by the YoM Research Institute. 🙄
Yes. Oddly I happen to have been involved in the employment of many thousands of people.

You really are a particularly grumpy old bloke TB.

Manufacturing has gone from 42% of workforce to 6%. Construction has a trillion dollar liability. Flightpaths over live volcanoes and battlefields are fine. Yomm says he helped. The evidence seems to back him.
Senior politicians in Germany`s ruling parties have voiced anger at the election of a neo-Nazi as mayor of a town in the central state of Hesse.
Stefan Jagsch of the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) was elected unanimously by seven councillors in Waldsiedlung, near Frankfurt am Main.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-49632409
Mr Jagsch won because no rival stood against him. The small town has about 2,650 residents.
The NPD has survived efforts to ban it, but is seen as “anti-constitutional”.
Local councillors representing Chancellor Angela Merkel`s Christian Democrats (CDU), its governing partner the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), and the liberal Free Democrats (FDP) all voted for Mr Jagsch.

… you bang on constantly about your role in safety … … (very British, old boy) … I don’t “bang on” … I actually give you information based on personal experiences – with detail (often used as ammunition by my antagonists here) and FYI my career “roles” cover a far wider range than simply workplace health and safety and in a number of workplaces and industries – from overalls to line and staff management … we could swap CV’s? 🙂
Give us the “where, what, why, how, who and when” of your “odd, happenings” employing 1000’s of people and provide comments with facts and/or links, rather than “amazing” adjectives and you may increase your credibility.

Shimples …
nor do we need to believe anything you write either …
“…we” ? You’re posting on behalf of a collective now are you TB?
But, when you boast about nonsense like a 10 second interview, and a “competency test” for drunk workers, it’s no wonder you feel you have something to prove.
“…we” ? You’re posting on behalf of a collective now are you TB?
Figure of speech … although other commenters here have noticed the lack of substance in your comments and poor comprehension theirs …
But, when you boast … it was no boast … and as always, you ignore the remainder of my comment – I later applied a more refined approach, based on my uni studies and experience … and I certainly don’t recommend it to people who constantly and deliberately misread, misunderstand, misinterpret and struggle with nuance and technique … interpreting body language and NVC would be beyond their capability…
a “competency test” for drunk workers … once again you foolishly comment on something you simply can’t or won’t understand … the competency test was not for “drunk workers” … it was to test workers for skill competency and considered as a replacement for random drug/alcohol testing …
… you feel you have something to prove.
No, I don’t (never had to) – my career is over, I’m happily retired (before I turned 60) – I’ve seen and experienced the world, it’s people and many interesting and different workplaces and industries, through my work and in retirement, and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to be able to do so.
I have nothing to prove … in fact my only original reason to begin commenting (@ Tim Dunlop’s Blogocracy) was to share information and ideas … certainly not to impress you, or anyone else …
However, ToM, you may have something to prove, or at least provide some evidence:
You would be amazed at the number of people that test positive in a pre employment medical, even though they can schedule the appointment at a time of their choice, and are advised in advance that there will be a drug & alcohol test.

So how many is “amazing”, ToM?
That’s all very interesting TB but if you post comments that promote poor practice, do you think it should be overlooked?
As for the D&A testing picking up 150 out of 5000, that seems to suggest that it will be genuinely random, not targeted.
Manufacturing has gone from 42% of workforce to 6%. Construction has a trillion dollar liability. Flightpaths over live volcanoes and battlefields are fine. Yomm says he helped. The evidence seems to back him.

How does that mantra about “bringing more people out of poverty” go again? And “trickle down economics” … I know what trickles down …
The 21st Century version of Uber Kapitalism operated by Robber Barons* is putting most people into poverty!
(“Nothing changes … nothing is new”, Aish, Cairo University Prof. and our Guide, 1997.)
Enjoyed your guardian echo chambers boeing yarn, tho it isn`t new, the yank, gordon gecko style asset stripping and worker, supplier ripping. l still reckon their main game is war-toys while peace-toys are just a sideline between wars. As the yank govt is always corrupted to fill armory`s with half million dollar rockets, boeing will remain taxpayer funded profitable. The airlines can always be supplied by airbus or others, so their `woes` are voluntary beyond the `max` crashes. You may remember when hockey chased auto away, l pointed out that auto had spent too much time`n effort extorting govt/s for handouts and not building wanted product. lts the same disease.
