The Govt’s Homebuilder scheme is a crock of shit. Here’s why.
The Govt’s Homebuilder scheme is a crock of shit. Here’s why:
To qualify for the government’s “homebuilder” grant of $25,000 you must be either earning $125,000 or less (before tax) or $200k for families.
Grants must be spent to:
- Build a new home as a principal place of residence valued at up to $750,000 (including land); or
- Substantially renovate an existing home as a principal place of residence, with renovations valued at between $150,000 and $750,000 and the dwelling not valued at more than $1.5m before the renovation.
By way of context, a single person earning $125,000 is in the top income decile, meaning they earn more than 90% of other Australians.
Even the cheapest renovation eligible for the scheme ($150,000) would require a grant recipient to spend at least $125,000 of their own money – meaning the scheme is most likely to be accessed by those with substantial savings or a willingness to borrow.
Only the LNP could have dreamt up a scheme in a global recession which involves giving people with access to over $150,000 in cash and additional cash handout of $25,000 funded by the taxpayer.
Scott Morrison is calling this a “trade led” recovery, because, let’s face it, builder, developers and tradies have been struggling to get by on sub-optimal incomes for generations (sarcasm alert).
When your ‘friends’ at The Australian aren’t even buying it, you know it stinks!
“Forcing taxpayers to renovate other people’s homes to aid some tradie, who probably earns more than the average taxpayer, is economic and political stupidity”

Dear Government…… We are currently living in a housing commission house and my family and friends tell me it is a shit box.. i mean sure.. the toilet leaks and really stinks and in summer it feels and smells like a Turkish bath and we are all really crook from all the mould that grows on all the walls and ceilings and why should we have to feed all these black rats that run through the house all the time.
I know i am a bit forward but do you reckon you could give us some money to buy some buckets cause the rain just pours straight all those holes and cracks in the roof and two of our kids are in hospital with pneumonia and we dont know why that is but im sure it’s not your fault and i love youse guys and i always vote for the Libs cause they really look after us … not like those bloody Labor/Greenies i hear bad things about all the time on Sky News.

I don’t like the idea of stimulus packages in general, but this scheme in particular is a joke and the law of unintended consequences will definitely apply.
John’s story sounds a little bit bullshit.
Any bets on what TOTTF (Take out the Trash Friday) will be today?
My moneys on how much was spent flying morrison out of the cuntry during a fire emergency 😉

Here you go Tom…

That’s less than $250,000 per meal! It’s typical of Teh Guardian to report it negatively.
I don’t like the idea of stimulus packages in general, but this scheme in particular is a joke and the law of unintended consequences will definitely apply.
Perhaps we should take the pain and suffering and we may come out better. But the govt has to be seen to be doing something.
I would really like to know Costello’s view on all this stimulus spending
Is a wood fire for heating a pollutant? Some lefty mayor thinks so.
Here on the coast, I have an open fire, as do most of my neighbours.
When anyone gets a dead tree cut down it is cut for firewood. Neatly stacked in a communal area.
We then help ourselves! *** And it’s renewable because plenty of trees grow here.

More Chinese bullying, now a travel ban
I’d suggest- ignore them.
It’s a hollow gesture, as there probably won’t be much international travel for a year.
So as I’ve commented before, the best time to rebalance the relationship is during a recession. By the time there’s plenty of international travel available, this nonsense will be long past.

Also, self-declared Republican Mike Carlton who praised Saul Keating for knocking back one of these, accepts one for himself. Principled right up to the point it becomes inconvenient.
This cop must be racist.
Well, it really doesn’t look like we are all in this together, as the grubmint shows they lied about jobkeeper, removing it for the largely female dominated childcare industry.
I mean, it’s not like he PROMISED only a short time ago that it is there for 6 months.
Glad nobody believes him and therefore planned around that lie

I think it’s best for long term economic health that the government looks for every opportunity to reduce reliance on jobseeker and other temporary welfare.
I think it’s best for long term economic health that the government looks for every opportunity to reduce reliance on jobseeker and other temporary welfare.
I think it’s interesting that they are targeting a female dominated workforce, who are already underpaid for the service they provide.
I also think it’s gormless to announce just last week that it’s in for the long run, and then cut all those specific workers off at the knees
I think if demand is holding up, reduce reliance on the government in as many areas as possible, as quickly as possible. Otherwise we are leaving a debt crisis for another generation.
They won’t be thanking us once they understand the consequences.
I think if demand is holding up

But why promise it, only last week?
And surely, for day care centers to be employing people again, they need to have people working again?
So why not remove it for everyone?
Don’t you think it’s best to relieve the next generation of OUR debt burden as much as possible?

There is little doubt that the recent troubles have handed Trump an enormous electoral advantage.
Now he has the rather simple task of campaigning against rioting and looting and the killers of the cops who died defending their communities. He can campaign against de-funding police.
Here is a sickening image of the Democrat leadership genuflecting before the savages:

Ordinary people want leaders who will lead. If they want to elect Antifa or (S)BLM they will vote accordingly. What they won’t do is elect craven cowering cunts who bend over before violent racist thugs.
It’s interesting that, in order to support their living standards, the left are so willing to leave an unsustainable legacy to future generations.
It’s interesting that, in order to support their living standards, the left are so willing to leave an unsustainable legacy to future generations.
Fact is Labor supporters do not care about govt debt most probably because they do not think it is a problem. But when they realise it is a problem it will be too late.
Since Whitlam trashed the budget in the early 1970’s only one govt has managed to reduce govt debt ie Howard/Costello
ROFLMAO…………are these people serious ?
On defunding the police department Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender was interviewed by CNN
Camerota of CNN asked.
“What if in the middle of [the] night, my home is broken into? Who do I call?”
Lisa Bender replied :
“I mean, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors,And I know — and myself, too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege. Because for those of us for whom the system is working, I think we need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to already live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harm is done.”

“ROFLMAO…………are these people serious ?”
Not only that, they never learn. We’ve seen this before when in the eighties the Democrat mayors of New York looked the other way while racist mobs attacked Asians and Jews and drugs were out of control. NY became the murder capital of the US. It took Giuliani to restore order by the simple expedient of having the police enforce the law. The murder rate was drastically reduced. Black lives were saved (from mainly black killers) but apparently those lives don’t matter.
The fact is that the worst places for black people to live in the US are Democrat run cities. If the Minnesota police are racist then maybe the Democrats, who have run that town for over 40 years, could explain why?
De-funding or dis-empowering the police is racist. It will result in a lot more black deaths. But again, as those deaths are not at the hands of the police, those black lives don’t matter.
1. All we seems to hear from “teh left” – “everyone deserves a government handout” and “look that poor overseas national didn’t get a government handout”
We never hear them carping on about the debt legacy they leave in order to support their lifestyle.
2. I prefer the Freakonomics analysis for the fall in the crime rate- the availablity of abortion since Roe vs Wade in 1973.

Yes, it’s hard to tell where the Chinese make their stories up from
We should be proud that the yanks are simply copying us now
“teh left” is also GetUp. They aren’t interested in government debt, and just promote populist increased spending.
Their solution to government debt is to refer to Modern Monetary Theory. So they find it easy to just want more spending without ever worrying about the consequences

Don’t worry it will still be Jobkeeper as he guaranteed, just adjusted. 🙂
FMD ToM the right give massive tax cuts to the rich creating huge deficits and structural future deficits while slashing services to the rest of us.
“The annual budget deficit increased from $585 billion (3.2% GDP) in 2016 to $984 billion (4.7% GDP) in 2019, up 68%. Relative to a CBO forecast prior to President Trump’s inauguration, the budget deficits for 2019-2021 roughly doubled, due to the Trump tax cuts and other spending legislation.”
The only budget surpluses in the USA since 1981 are during the Clinton years with 4 budget surpluses in a row.
There have been 13 Budget Surpluses in the USA since 1929 and of those 13, 9 were by a Democrat. So much for your lefties love deficits bullshit.
The Tory budget deficits are horrendous compared to Labour in the UK.
Read this shit post by Piers Akerman castigating Julia Gillard and then look at our debt levels and lack of transparency under the current corrupt and disgraceful Right Wing Nutters.
https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/swans-debt-dive-an-act-of-financial-vandalism/news-story/85a454708aef8a59b5692e25835782c8?sv=9b36dda330f196fbeaffde98576b9fea
Lies and utter bullshit from the right extremists. The fucking LNP are doing exactly the things that Piers Akerman is hounding Julia Gillard on. We now have a fucking unlimited debt level with no scrutiny at all and total silence from shitheads like Piers.
Tell the fucking truth and not your own blinkered opinion. Deal in facts and not lies to spout your political blinkered leanings.
If debt was less, under the right, on a consistent and proven basis while maintaining the same levels of service to ALL of our citizens then I would agree with you, but it doesn’t and the facts show this. How fucking long can you blame a previous government for debt when your own debt that you have accrued is approaching 200% of the debt you were left with when you were put into power while giving $238,000,000,000 in tax cuts to predominantly wealthy or business in the community. They always use the home budget theory, so this is like buying a home and taking over the debt and then increasing that home loan by a further 200% and blaming the previous owner of the house for your own debt.
As for populist increased spending, nothing could be more popular than Jobkeeper and Jobseeker at the moment and that is not policy from the left but from your political idols. But when it stops and so many find themselves in a mess then lets see how populist it is.
“teh left” is also GetUp.
hmm, so all caps doesn’t work. Perhaps it needs to be in Fraktur?
If debt was less, under the right, on a consistent and proven basis while maintaining the same levels of service to ALL of our citizens then I would agree with you
In Australia govt debt was ZERO in 1972. Then Whitlam trashed the budget and debt kept increasing until 1996 until Howard/Costello started running surplus budgets and reducing govt debt. IN fact Howard reduced debt to ZERO by 2007
In my lifetime the only govt in Australia to reduce govt debt is Coalition ones. I have never seen a Labor govt reduce debt
You should see what this lot have done nil 😉
Talk about the gullible Left…………

“”””””””You should see what this lot have done nil “””””””””
Yeah in 2005 Howard reduced govt debt to zero. By 2007 it was MINUS 3% of GDP ie less than zero, Labor took debt to 13% of GDP by 2013 and it is at 19% now
Neil
Look at this graph and then tell me that Whitlam trashed the budget and there was no deficit before him.
https://www.firstlinks.com.au/budget-time-labor-v-liberal-fiscal-discipline
No one bothers to look at the magic money theory supported by GetUp.
“teh left” is broadly reflected in GetUp, and their policy is based on a free money, free borrowing, splash it around without consequences theory.
They say that’s why they can support generous welfare for everyone without having to worry about revenue measures.
That’s the brainless left for you.
Table 1 says Whitlam increased spending by 19.9% in 1974 and by 15.7% in 1975 trashing the budget.
Table 4 says net debt was MINUS 3% of GDP in 1973 ie less than zero and that had increased to zero by 1975. DEbt kept increasing until it reach 18% of GDP by 1996. Then Howard took debt to zero by 1996.
In my lifetime i have never seen a Labor govt reduce debt. And yep Whitlam trashed the budget. Putting humpty dumpty back together is never easy

No one bothers to questions the shock jocks about their comments during the Gillard years when they spouted the shit that they support now simply because their party of choice is now doing exactly the same thing. Fucking hypocrites and a media controlled by a billionaire that hides the facts and truth from his readers for his own political aims. Funny how magic money appears to give tax cuts to the tune of $238,000,000,000 when we are running deficits and have massive debt, yet you think that Getup have a magic money theory. Seems the LNP has an even bigger magic pudding theory.
Neil
Look at all the deficits before Whitlam. Can you see them ?
Talk about the gullible Left
So, they haven’t copied us by building a wall around the white house?
without having to worry about revenue measures.
Any chance that you have any odea of the debt trajectory … SINCE the libs took over.
Here’s a hint, debt was starting to level out, then hockey got in with his calculator.
Neil
Table 4 of what ?
Shane
It was a link to the budget papers which is not showing. But i have a question.
If Menzies/Coalition were running deficit budgets how did GROSS debt go from 100% of GDP just after WW2 to only 10% by 1972??? And NET debt was ZERO in 1972
So my point still stands. I have never seen a Labor govt reduce debt
Someone has been gobbling up the bombastic bluster tablets this morning
how did GROSS debt go from 100% of GDP just after WW2 to only 10% by 1972
Wars are expensive, but the Winner Takes It ALL
“”””””””Here’s a hint, debt was starting to level out, then hockey got in with his calculator.””””””
Garbage. Debt went from MINUS 3% of GDP in 2007 to 13% by 2013. Swans last budget was a $48B deficit.
The Greens must be proud!!

“Wars are expensive, but the Winner Takes It ALL”
Absolute Rubbish !
There were virtually no Japanese reparations paid to Australia in the aftermath of WW2 and what little that was paid was distributed to Australian POWs of the Japanese.
Your implication that GDP was affected because we were on the winning side is absolute garbage.
Your implication that GDP was affected because we were on the winning side is absolute garbage.
Reduced costs after disruptive war – war machines, personnel, supplies? Peace = Productive rather than destructive … massive boost in national morale and a belief/need to start again.
Your implication that GDP was affected because we were on the winning side is absolute garbage.
Yea, cos winning wars doesn’t mean you don’t get influence or power either does it?
Swans last budget was a $48B deficit.
I think you mean hockeys first, when he loaded it all up onto Labors card, he thought

“””””””””I think you mean hockeys first, “”””””””””
Nope . Swans last May 2013 budget was a $48B deficit. And your link starts with a falsehood. The last surplus budget was the May 2007 budget. Costello’s last budget. We have not run a surplus budget since 2007 racking up $400B of govt debt
“Yea, cos winning wars doesn’t mean you don’t get influence or power either does it?”
Care to back that up in the context of Australia’s participation in WWII ?
Be specific rather than your usual “vague”
“Reduced costs after disruptive war – war machines, personnel, supplies? Peace = Productive…………….”
That might be so TB but TomR was implying wealth gained via reparations ( “the Winner Takes It ALL “)
TomR was implying wealth gained via reparations
That can be your reading of it, but I didn’t mention anything about financial reparations, just that “the winner takes it all”
But, you stick to your fairy tale.
Because I know for a fact, England suffered heavy financial losses from both wars, especially to America, but gained a lot in other manners.
Meanwhile, our grubmint keeps giving more to those with the most
This recession we didn’t need to have is gonna be a long one for many, but a good one for some
I don’t like the home builder scheme but this Harry Chemay Person is being tricky here. AFAIK retirees could always spend money on their un-asset tested principal place of residence while simultaneously reducing their financial assets to a level where they are eligible for a (part-)pension. I stand to be corrected by any more knowledgeable and generally angry boomers, but the writer’s true motivations become clear when he starts banging on about social housing and energy-efficient retrofits.
“But, you stick to your fairy tale.”
The usual long stroll backwards from you
“Franking credits pensions are stretched but Scott Morrison’s “tradie recovery” plan will help self-funded retirees access the pension”
What absolute bullshit !
That monumentally stupid cunt is assuming that current dividend conditions will persist until point of death for both partners. In fact they better hope they die simultaneously because the survivor is likely to get tossed off the pension anyway.
If during 2019 his pensioner couple only received $45,000 (3%) on a portfolio of $1.5M then he is not only a fucking stupid cunt but he is also a fucked financial advisor.
And if they are only receiving 3% then its almost certain they are not receiving franking credits.
So his theory is actually illogical.I’m not surprised shit for brains Michael West tweeted it out.
$25,000 is not enough incentive to lock away $150K to $750K of your capital basically forever in the belief that todays dividends will persist well into the future
“AFAIK retirees could always spend money on their un-asset tested principal place of residence while simultaneously reducing their financial assets to a level where they are eligible for a (part-)pension. ”
Absolutely correct !
That can be your reading of it, but I didn’t mention anything about financial reparations, just that “the winner takes it all”
So as usual debt drops under a Coalition govt but you cannot give them any credit. Gross debt went from 100% of GDP to only 10% under Menzies/Coalition and they just got lucky.
In the lifetime of Australians only the Coalition has managed to reduce debt
Neil
If you look at the graph in the link I provided it shows deficits for 57 years in a row from 1914 to 1970. In addition the graph covers 100 years and of those 100 years there was only 18 years of surpluses. If the country according to you had not debt prior to Whitlam, after 57 years of straight deficits before he was elected, then there must have been so much colourful accounting bullshit being thrown around by previous governments. Even you should be able to see that if you spent more than you earn’t for 57 years in a row, how on earth could you have no debt.
Shane
Your graph shows Gross debt falling from 100% of GDP to only 10% of GDP under Menzies/Coalition while running deficit budgets.
If Menzies found a way to reduce govt debt while running deficit budgets the man deserves not one but 3 Nobel prizes. Something else had to be going on
but this Harry Chemay Person is being tricky here.
I think you may be correct here. I’m very lost with things like this, but, a few people have mentioned similar in the comments, and he is ignoring them assiduously.
The usual long stroll backwards from you
Perhaps you can highlight where I mentioned reparations specifically, then we could walk together. Until then, don’t blame me for you getting an idea stuck in yer hed

Forget the GDP.
The top part of the graph shows Deficits, that is less income than expenses. If there are so many deficits before Whitlam, how on earth can there be no debt when Whitlam is elected. It is impossible. If you spent more than you earnt for 50 of the last 54 years would you have a debt or not ?
The colourful accounting and manipulation must have been astounding. Obviously accounting measures were changed somewhere along the line, as this is the ususal trick to alter the perception of a result to make it either look better or worse depending on what the contractor is paying the accountant to achieve.
I agree that removal of comedy series or movies is over the top, however the comments from some on here inciting violence and bashings against other human beings, I find far more disturbing and horrifying !!!
Language is one thing, wishing violence and bashing on those who disagree with you displays your own hatred, intolerance and violent tendencies.

Good question.
But that graph was created by Labor supporters to show that it is possible to run deficit budgets and also to reduce govt debt. Menzies must have been a genius. Govt gross debt went from 100% of GDP to only 10% under Menzies/Coalition when running deficit budgets.
But it is your side of politics that produced the graph to make a point.
I think the lefties say economic growth was so high under Menzies that the growth was higher than the deficit budgets. So you can reduce govt debt when running deficit budget if economic growth is high. I think that would never happen. So something else had to be going on. I have an idea.
Quick, quick ScoMo! Better start licking their crappy commie arses.

To be fair, we’re just a collection avatars, and many are probably sneaking in after mummy turns her back to post. See the above for an example 😉
(In this site, but not of it, mayhaps, Shane.
Then, again, domestically: (past, present, future) obliteration(s) of archaeological sites of utmost national significance(s); erasure of the world’s largest and oldest book (the Burrup); ignorance that nearly every statue, street name, and supposed key date is a palimpsestic act; and ongoing attempts to deny, nay, gaslight, living cultures’ lived experiences and memories, while trying to affix a fabricated official history: all remain, and stand as testament.)
Oh dear oh dear…………now TomR is quoting the Global Times………….LOL
There is a little problem with the China coal strategy. If they start being an unreliable customer as they claim they will then the likes of BHP,Rio, and Fortescue will not be shipping to China as they would then be liable to storage costs for their coal and iron ore in China. That means its stored here and China are tied to rigid supply contracts anyway.
China’s economy is in deep shit at the moment and the only thing that can keep it going is infrastructure development which means iron ore and coal. Chairman Xi has a lot of opponents within and he knows it. Sabre rattling on trade appeals to the national identity of its newly unemployed masses as does putting the boot into Hong Kong. Taiwan will be straight after November if Biden gets elected.
They will actually be shooting themselves in the foot if the start disrupting their own supply chain.
As for iron ore out of Brazil well they don’t produce enough of it and its lower quality and very unreliable. And that aint gunna change.
And as for their threats to source ore from Africa ? Well good luck to them on that as Rio lost billions 10 years ago trying to open up Africa. It anit going to happen.
Australia and China are like to addicts addicted to each other’s meth. We are stuck with each other in coal and iron ore.
Oh dear oh dear…………now TomR is quoting the Global Times………….LOL
er … that was Splats
The straits times perhaps? Then perhaps you can highlight the inacuracies?
We are stuck with each other in coal and iron ore.
Wow, all of a sudden, we are stuck with the ‘Commies”
If you don’t think China will uphold their threats, you haven’t followed China too closely.
My moneys on them currently investing in getting the Brazilian mines flowing again for them.
Although, it is interesting to see the opposite argument to what was being used a decade ago when we were talking about a mining tax, and the miners were gonna take their bats and balls and go away. As if lol
Now they might wish they had
“….er … that was Splats”
Ooops my bad
“My moneys on them currently investing in getting the Brazilian mines flowing again for them.”
President Xi might be vengeful but the smart money in China is not that stupid and Vale the main supplier/mine owner wont come to the party cheaply
Brazil 2018 430M tonnes, Australia 2018 930M tonnes
It would take around 5 years to expand mine production by 50% and then they also need to massively expand and at the same time disrupt port facilities and the rail lines as well.
And they would still be stuck with an unreliable supplier and massively higher freight costs.
I don’t think they will abandon Australia completely, but they will cut back a lot, enough to hurt us locally, and, should Vale get back on track, which they are doing, they will be more than happy to take up that slack.
Before the tailing dam collapse last year, they led the world in iron ore production. RIO were rubbing their hands in glee. But now our belligerence is putting all those gains at risk
They can blow up as many sacred sites as they want, but nothing can save them from our pms inherent racism
“”….but they will cut back a lot,”
For about one month. They cannot afford to go any longer. Brazil’s product is inferior as is China’s own domestic product.
If they want to keep infrastructure going (the domestic consumer has stopped spending) then they need lots of iron ore.
The Brazilians arent stupid. They wont sign up to anything if they see China reneging on Australian contracts.
China can hurt us on education, wine, dairy, beef etc but you can forget about mining.
“Shame. Not.”
Yep its called Karma
That is just some “random” slave pic, Tom R. Not Australian.
Even the commies at the ABC don’t think blackbirding was slavery. It was disgusting but not slavery.
“Was it slavery?
Well, the fact that the men were paid makes it difficult to classify them as slaves but it’s worth noting the wages paid were well below what European workers earned.
First-year workers received a standard pay rate of six pounds per annum, and that rate was fixed for 40 years despite wage inflation elsewhere in Queensland.
Likewise, as the men had signed contracts, they were technically indentured labourers.
“But now our belligerence is putting all those gains at risk”
Recycled Chinese Communist Party propaganda right there. Commies sticking together!
Likewise, as the men had signed contracts, they were technically indentured labourers.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Well, I hope that was supposed to be a joke, anyway
But even from that article (which is specifiacally about ‘blackbirding’)
However this legal definition does not mean the men didn’t experience “slave-like conditions.”
So yea, nobody has been dropped from jobseeker, they just aren’t getting it. Yea, ‘tricky’ comes to mind. Lying does too
Point 1 from below spells it out for the slower ones

Let’s see what Morrison said……….
“I mean, Australia when it was founded as a settlement, as New South Wales, was on the basis that there’d be no slavery….And while slave ships continued to travel around the world, when Australia was established yes, sure, it was a pretty brutal settlement. My forefathers and foremothers were on the First and Second Fleets. It was a pretty brutal place, but there was no slavery in Australia.”
Second Fleet arrived June 1790.
Please provide a link to slavery in Australia in 1790.
PS convicts dont count
Tom R you should be ashamed of yourself. Morrison, a considerable idiot was right, and you were wrong!
Time to grow up little twinkles.
Is this the kind of hate-speech you were talking about, Shane?
(I, Spartacus, am just glad, historically-speaking, that the Romans never kept Greek slaves, and others; for cross-cultural educational purposes….)
a considerable idiot
Yet his idiocy pales besides yor yawning emptiness

I thought the founding post on this site set the tone nicely: ‘Joe Hockey is nothing but a fat cunt’, or words to that effect. As for Shane’s pearl-clutching, flouncing, melodramatic exit, all I can say is ROFLMFAO! And … guffaw.

Do you have a point, ToM?
My point is that it is interesting, don’t you think?
And I also think there is a huge overreaction when Faulty Towers is banned, that just crap.
As for tearing down statues, I can understand why this happens, but it makes more sense to change the plaque or commemoration to include a more balanced description.
For example, it would be stupid to remove a statue of Capt J Cook, or dismantle his home that has been reassembled in one of Melbourne’s public gardens
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Wow. I just flicked through Tom Tanukis posts. I have been recently banned from Twitter and from The Guardian.
If i posted the stuff Tanuki posts i would have been banned 5 years ago. I have asked Twitter to be unbanned but i don’t like my chances. Been 2 weeks since i asked to be unbanned. When u see the stuff posted on Twitter allowed to be posted i can only assume people with Conservative opinions are not allowed to post. Hence Twitter belongs to leftists
Ok, I’m on board now. Let’s smash this place up! It’s a memorial to that imperialist racist C*** that enslaved people.

Perhaps the fact that they haven’t is the reason for the angst?
Coming soon to a mob near you:
Not that I’m a big fan of tearing down statues, although some it appears unbelievable that they are till there, but not sure that’s the best example splats
https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2003/07/who-built-the-pyramids-html
John Cleese, as always, says it well
I think we a seeing a little bit what mob rule is like. When it comes to mobs I’m a big fan of Justinian’s approach to the Nike mob of his day:
“The Hippodrome erupted in violence, and soon the mob took to the streets. Their first objective was the praetorian, which was, essentially, the headquarters of Constantinople’s police department and the municipal jail. The rioters released the prisoners and set the building on fire. Before long a substantial portion of the city was in flames, including the Hagia Sophia and several other great buildings. …
Once more Emperor Justinian sent General Belisarius to attack the rebels with Imperial troops. With most of the rioters confined to the Hippodrome, the results were far different than the general’s first attempt: Scholars estimate that between 30,000 and 35,000 people were slaughtered. Many of the ringleaders were captured and executed, including the unfortunate Hypatius. In the face of such a massacre, the rebellion crumpled.”
That’s how you do it!
Did you have the same desire to end the demonstrations against the lockdown in the same manner splats?
As for Cook, I’m not in favour of tearing it down, and, there is much of this that has become a mob reaction. Many of the statues in America sound like they deserve a trashing, As this reply below to Cleese highlights. But Cook, who may well be the vanguard of occupation, and, I think, is coping a lot of flack for that, doesn’t compare imo. I also think a lot of the anger is because rwdb’s for a couple of decades now have been trying to whiten history in this country, whereas, many just want history to be as accurate as it can be, without the rose coloured glasses
“Did you have the same desire to end the demonstrations against the lockdown in the same manner splats?”
Of course – the rioting and looting and murder that accompanied those demonstrations was so much worse than the current “peaceful protests”.
Actually I said the police over-reacted in one case where they terrorized a small child. I also said they should have handled it differently – notwithstanding that the fact that the mother was batshit crazy.
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
I quite like the statue-toppling movement.
To me, they (the statues) seem like a relic from a past that’s really only valued by the jingoistic forelock-tugging crowd, ie; John Howard and his pearl necklace clutching adherents.
They do have some value from a historical perspective I suppose, so perhaps they could be dumped in some crusty old museum somewhere, vandalised and dishevelled as they deserve to be, so that future generations can amble past should they choose to do so and ponder who TF were those cunts?
And another thing…!
What an abomination were the Queen’s so-called “birthday honours”..
Tony Abbott, the onion-munching, suppository of all wisdom gets a gong for handing down the worst budget in living memory.
One time, the honours list was meant to recognise those who had contributed to society through their tireless hours of community service, charity and humanitarian work.
Now, it’s just a veritable who’s who of sad old neo-liberal has-beens. I mean Bronwyn fucking Bishop…?! That’s just taking the piss.
One can only assume, that her royal madge, in her dotage (dog bless her) doesn’t even bother vetting the list anymore and just signs it off with a royal flourish of “whatever”.
And can you really blame her, what with the likes of BJ as PM and Prince Andrew realigning the standards for royal decorum.
IT’S A DISGRACE!
(Who needs a figure enslaved in stone?)
See: the peaceful demonstrators aren’t all bad:
I’m not in favour of random vandalism of statues. I’m more inclined to look for organised vandalism.
For example, I believe there have been incidents of vandalism of the sculptures of several Prime Ministers in Ballarat. This is just wanton destruction.
The authorities should stop this immediately! And organise tickets and an orderly queue. The would allow people to safely deface the image of the Prime Minister of their choice.
I’m sure it would also prove to be a real attraction in Ballarat!
I’m sure it would also prove to be a real attraction in Ballarat!
So, what, the Begonia Festival is not?
(This is just wanton destruction.
Eh? Surely, ad hoc multimedia collages, materiels transformations, and unmaskings, cf. defacings, are legitimate impromptu folkartsworks; in the degenerate tradition, so underappreciated by (self-)Righteous ‘high-brow'(?) ideologues.)
What a surprise. A Greens staffer has been charged for vandalising a Captain Cook statue. Works for David Shoebridge. The Greens MP said it was OK because the vandalising happened outside of work hours.
More like: “The Greens MP said it was OK because it was part of his job description!”
Was it the “c” word….??

Also, New Covid alternative greetings:
But, but Somyurek seemed so nice and community minded!
We need to wait for the-
* police investigation
* the DPP charge
* the court case
* the appeal
…before we make any judgement about his actions!!
By the way… think of the baby!!
60 Minutes exposed this guy and his shenanigans but nobody in the Labor party knew about any of it.
Riiiiiight.🙄
Knowing your rights in the age of phone cameras.
“Somyurek seemed so nice and community minded!”
That’s what I was thinking, and ‘eloquent’ too..
Good question:

Hard to make excuses if the recording is there, isn’t it
Some things don’t need much ‘context’
60 Minutes exposed this guy and his shenanigans but nobody in the Labor party knew about any of it.
Because, the first rule of running a covert operation, is to let everyone know about it 😉
Is it just me, or does splats seem more triggered than usual lately?
I’m trying really hard to be a bit more moderate but we all can be a little irascible at times. 🙂
I don’t want to end up like these boys!
No one else in the ALP though there was anything untoward!
Everyone in the ALP thought he was a powerbroker/faceless man because he’s-

* articulate
* caring for others
* respectful
* charismatic

So confusing: go around tagging everything in sight, for a day job, get a statue; tag a statue, out of hours, and authorities, in the clear light of day, do and don’t want to cover it up.

Does anyone else get the impression that this ALP corruption is a Murdoch conspiracy?
Surely I’m not the only one that thinks Rupert is behind all this?
“A good politician should not need to cheat to get pre-selected!”
In the Liberal Party the prerequisite to pre-selection is complete obedience to the overlords who have monetized their influence over the party. In that party you have to be dishonest before you can stand for election.
In fact the only reason the Liberal Party exists is to enrich lobbyists.
If nobody bothers to ‘take advantage’ of the so-called Homebuilder policy, will the geniuses in the Labor Party jump up and down because the Government has made a $688 million mistake?
Yes. Yes they will.
Dan Andrews on SA border still being closed to Victoria: I don’t mean to be offensive to South Australians but why would you want to go there?
“If nobody bothers to ‘take advantage’ of the so-called Homebuilder policy”
What’s the point of announcing a stimulus program if it doesn’t actually achieve anything?

Dont agree with the first part but I believe we should make additions to the plaques beneath statues. We can add to statues rather than destroy them.
Even the slave trader of Bristol his plaque could have stated why he was important to Bristol and then qualify his status with a statement that his practices are repugnant by todays standards.
Where is a statue of Pemulwuy one of the first indigenous men to stand up against the arrival of first settlement ?
He has a history to tell as well and he was born near where Sydney Airport now stands. So we should have a statue of him and a plaque explaining who he was.
Where are the other indigenous warriors ?
Washington had many slaves. Should the yanks scrub him from history too ?

There is no ‘substitute’ 😦
“……………the Guardian acknowledged publicly its problematic history nearly 10 years ago.”
Which is totally fucking irrelevant anyway.
Statues cant defend themselves so why should a fucking rag like the Guardian be given the opportunity to defend or justify themselves.
Captain Cook cant defend himself (against what who knows) nor can Cecil Rhodes. The Guardian cannot present day justify or apologise for the actions of John Edward Taylor.
Therefore it should be destroyed……………….otherwise you’d all be fucking hypocrites.
But that has never bothered you.
why should a fucking rag like the Guardian be given the opportunity to defend or justify themselves.
Because they do so with their words and actions
You do understand that it’s not the people personally that the statues represent, but a historical glorification of their deeds, which the Guardian has done much to rectify
Statues are a representation of what our current politicians want in our society. And some of their selections belong in a trash can, not even museum.
It wasn’t that long ago Barack Obama gave eulogy at the funeral of Robert Byrd, a Democrat Senator until his death in 2010. Byrd was also an Exalted Cyclops in the Ku Klux Klan before leaving that organisation at the start of his political career.
Back in the balmy days of 2010 a person could be forgiven their past sins and be judged on their achievements subsequent to their reforming their lives.
“……………..which the Guardian has done much to rectify”
What bullshit !
“You do understand that it’s not the people personally that the statues represent, but a historical glorification of their deeds..””
So what deed did Cook do that gets his statues labeled with “White Supremacist”.
Something about butterflies in Africa and Typhoons in the South China Sea I bet
My God you are full of crap.
You are the perfect reason to stay away from SA
Back in the balmy days of 2010 a person could be forgiven their past sins
It all depends on the persons reflection of their ways really, doesn’t it?

Popcorn time!
“It all depends on the persons reflection of their ways really, doesn’t it?”
Yeah. You can see it with the Greens.
Lee Rhiannon is still the same Stalinist git who left the CPA because she supported the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. And was that way up to the fall of the Soviet Union. She has never acknowledged the stupid inhumanity of her views.
Same goes for that entryist Trot Adam Bandt.
How surprising! Some union resistance to reform of the ALP!
It stands to reason that unions would oppose reform. They tried to knife Simon Crean when he tried a little modest reform.
What chance would the union hacks have in obtaining their sinecure if it wasn’t for branch stacking, factional deals.
They couldn’t possibly win preselection with a merit based system.
Go ALP!
And go the union hacks and factional warlords that control the ALP!
What a surprise – BLM are Marxists!
