Weekend Gab Fest: Strange but True!

September 25, 2020

Hello and good afternoon.

So how about we try something completely different. I’ve read a couple of bizarre stories this week, one of which I’ve forgotten before I’ve had the opportunity to share with youse, the other is this story about how this guy dropped dead from a liquorice overdose.

There are many ways to die, especially in Australia where we have more than our fair share of deadly creatures, but I think this has to be the first time I’ve heard of someone dying from liquorice. And what made this particular story all the more interesting is that he had recently made the switch from those raspberry twirl sticks to the black variety, and I thought “I used to eat those!” Which is perhaps a lesson to all of us that you shouldn’t change a routine.

So let’s see if you have any other ‘strange but true’ type stories from the last week or so, and more-so see if we can keep it politics free..!

Are you giving away a prize? (again!) A C&W vinyl album – mayhaps?

(I never got mine BTW … nor did I receive my promised payment for TWO articles from Tangalooma’s Heli Pad on Moreton Island – you thought I’d forgotten, hey?)

    And the Tigers win, again.

I am comfortable with that outcome.

Brisbane or Richmond would be satisfying.

I see that pedo cunt Pell has fucked off back to Rome to kiss the pope’s ring, something he’s well qualified to do. Hopefully he dies a lonely, miserable death in the not too distant future.

I think Port will go out in straight sets. The 7th placed bulldogs are my tip. They have players with mullets and therefore look like a 1980s Hawthorn team.

Welcome back toiletwithlotsofwordsafterit hope you are doing well.

Who am I kidding, with the toilet paper shortage we all suffered through, you’ll be raking it in now 😉

As for the footy. Is that still a thing? I stopped watching it years ago. And, with yomms link about the crows, probably a good ting.

Mind you, the players were just as big a fuckwits back when I watched it.

“Who am I kidding, with the toilet paper shortage we all suffered through, you’ll be raking it in now ”

The business is having a fucking purple patch, but the division of spoils hasn’t changed. Having said that, I appreciate that I have a stable, relatively secure, well paying job in an era when legions don’t.

The attention on the industry, particularly earlier this year has been comical. We’ve had TV stations outside of the facility interviewing us as we arrive/leave…writing bilge about ‘aussie (wank wank) heroes.
The public line from the company about ‘ramping up production to 24hrs a day’, as if they’re taking on the burden of the greater good and public service suddenly, is doubly absurd, considering it’s been a 24/7 364 operation for decades.
The day that statement was publicly made, the assets were actually shut for maintenance for several days.

Thanks for the kind greetings from all above.

    Victorians, stay in Victoria, haha.

Apparently we still make toilet paper in Australia. A little strange since we do not make much stuff here anymore. But apparently we make TP here because since it is so bulky it is very expensive to ship. So local makers have a competitive advantage.

I must admit is was a little strange when i walked into the kitchen section of KMart a few weeks ago and most of the shelves were empty because the shipments from China had not arrived.

“But apparently we make TP here because since it is so bulky it is very expensive to ship. So local makers have a competitive advantage.”

    OK.

So, I work for the single large manufacturer of toilet paper (and tissues, and paper towel) in Australia that isn’t predominantly Chinese owned (there are three, including my employer). Fact.

What you say about the logistics of shipping tp is true. When you think about it, packs on the shelf are bulky, but light, with the core in the middle being just air. Wasted space, not easily compressible, unlike nappies. Not viable to containerise, currently.
Also, the other companies import ‘hard rolls’ and convert them. My company manufactures them on site.

I don’t get the panic buying though.
I’ve been expecting a drop off in sales.
At the end of the day, people aren’t going to use more paper to clean their ring gear, just because there’s a pandemic (which isn’t dysentery).
Logic would suggest that buy more means hold more, but use same, therefore a lull in buying should occur until actual demand resumes.
    This hasn’t been the case.

OK i get some things right from time to time. But the current pandemic shows that we do not make many things here anymore. It is not good from a security point of view

I think “Life Coach” has to be right up there with “HR Manager” as one of the most fucking useless occupations there is.

I just read this quote from one on LinkedIn:

The measure of your influence as a coach is dependent on your ability to ask powerful questions at the right time.

Stop leading with what you should do
and begin asking, what would you do…

    Oh, do get fucked.
