US ELECTION: ‘APOCALYPSE NOW’ EDITION

November 2, 2020

THINGS ARE GOING SWIMMINGLY WELL over at the land of the free with the US election considered too close to call despite polls showing Biden in a comfortable lead.

We all know what happened last time, so literally no one is prepared to predict the outcome of the absolute shit show that’s currently underway. Most pundits are saying the final result may not be known for weeks as many voters opt to mail in their ballots rather than face an 8-hour wait to cast their vote in person.

To suggest that the US is a tinderbox waiting to go off at the slightest hint of a Trump dummy spit or worse – a call to his rightwing fan base (armed militia) to take to the streets to defend ‘democracy’ (ie his autocracy) hardly seems controversial in the current environment, but here we find ourselves.

It’s conduct befitting a tinpot dictator in some impoverished nation, which the US arguably is becoming. Despite holding the mantle as the strongest economy on the planet, the growing divide between the “haves” and “have nots” continues to grow.

Trump knows how to pander to his base; those on the bottom rung of society who feel that the system is against them. All Trump offers is bitterness, resentment and anger, and they lap it up. because that’s exactly how they feel.

But aside from that, it’s all showmanship. There’s nothing else there. For those outside looking in, it’s quite a bizarre circus. To see one of the world’s once proudest democracies descend into destruction, division and chaos is quite something.

What do you think will happen?

And therefore there will ne no option but for him to leave office, without grace or fanfare, and in a few years peopke will pretend the entire thing never happened.
There will no riots, no civil war, just embarrassed silence from his supporters.

If you watch the video, you’ll see the white van was following the bus, which to be fair was straddling lanes, and got pushed out from behind the bus by the black one. As someone mentioned, there is no link for the claim, but tools just believe when some random says something, and it becomes their facts

show the white Biden car moving into the lane of the black truck.

That may be, but the bus looks like it was changing lanes, and the trucks had surrounded the bus, very closely (an illegal maneuver) The van was simply trying to stay with the bus, and, instead of letting it do so, the truck physically pushed it.

Your tweeter made a claim. Tell you what, provide the evidence, or do you just believe the words of randoms now?

I provided evidence that the police haven’t made any decisions yet. A group of trucks converging onto a smaller group like that, and driving in such an intimidating manner is looking for trouble. They got it. They can’t then blame the people they were intimidating.

  34. Splatterbottom permalink
    November 3, 2020 9:24 am

They weren’t intimidating they didn’t shoot anyone like Antifa rioters. They were just keeping the bus company. All I see is the white car coming into the black trucks lane that is the aggression. As the police said the black truck appears to be the victim.

If the Biden car really was in the right they would have filed a police report by now.

“Nothing indicates confidence quite like surrounding the White House with an non-scalable barrier the day before the election.”

Trump knows he will win and he knows that the Biden thugs will be out in force. And the rest of Washington and the major cities know this as well which is why they are boarding up their premises.

Just like Crooked, Creepy Joe will not accept the result of this election. Only this time he will unleash his goons.

Tom R, if ‘demeans or belittles others’ is the standard that would include referring to the Premier of NSW as “poor widdle Gladys” or making comments like “poor old rachel, looks like all the bullying has got to her. So they need someone else to make a complete ass of themselves

    Step up peta credless”

Or referring to the PM as ‘Morriscum’,

If that really is the standard then guilty as charged along with everyone else on this blog. It is after all the home of the guttertrash.

The specific issue I raised as regards the fitness of a candidate for office is an entirely appropriate subject for discussion. But plenty else I’ve said qualifies.

    More detail here:

“Though Biden’s tough-on-crime rhetoric was in line with the panic of the 1990s, his use of the term, “predator,” even then, puts him at odds with a Democratic Party that largely denounces the language as racist. During the 2016 Democratic primary, the Trump campaign resurfaced Hillary Clinton’s 1996 use of the term “superpredator” to describe children involved in gangs. Black Lives Matter activists confronted the candidate over her use of the term during a private fundraiser, demanding an apology. And in an essay for The Nation, author and law professor Michelle Alexander called the comments “racially coded rhetoric to cast black children as animals.” At a Democratic primary debate in April 2016, Sanders was asked why he criticized Clinton for using the word 20 years prior. “Because it was a racist term, and everybody knew it was a racist term,” Sanders responded to cheers.”

About 6ish last evening the odds were opposite to what reb posted above, I was tired and emotional but happy and then I woke up this morning to a completely different scenario. I guess we wait in anticipation. I hope things don’t get too bitter and twisted as the process plays out. And I don’t think it helps to allege fraud unless you can prove it. So for now it is going to be recounts and litigation for a few weeks.

Considering Sportsbet paid out $23 million on Biden (a marketing decision as much as anything), and Trump was never favourite (so payouts are higher), except for a time on election day, there’s much more at stake than that.

Interestingly, at Betfair – where punters bet against other punters and the agency takes a small percentage – the market on the next president is still open. There is no way they could justify taking one punter’s money and giving it to another punter if the result isn’t official. Everything you’re hearing at the moment is about projected results – projected by tv networks – and does not mention the fact it is being contested. Betfair, however, always knew this was a possibility:

    3) Contested Result

A contested result includes a legal battle regarding re-count, the Supreme Court deciding the winner and any scenario other than a clean Electoral College vote majority.
This could happen if we see a margin of less than 1% in a key state like Florida, Michigan or Pennsylvania. Nothing would be conceded in this scenario and the projections couldn’t be made given the margins involved.

There is potential after a re-count that a result would be determined, but legal challenges would be likely should the state Electoral College total be the balance of power in terms of winning the presidency or not.

There is no way of giving a clear view of settlement time in advance in this case, but these market rules will apply:

    https://betting.betfair.com/politics/us-politics/us-election-betfair-market-settlement-scenarios-021120-51.html

    Also:

Another factor is the possibility that the losing candidate may challenge the results in the courts.

We will only settle the markets when there is certainty around which candidate has the most projected Electoral College votes.

Before settling the markets, we must therefore wait for clarity around ongoing vote counts, recounts and any potential legal challenges to the results.

But I think the mainstream of the Republican Party are walking away from Trump.

    Yea, not according to this

Trump is attempting a coup in plain sight

    https://www.vox.com/2020-presidential-election/2020/11/7/21554114/trump-election-2020-voter-fraud-challenge-recount-biden

To read elected Republicans today — with a few notable exceptions, like Sen. Mitt Romney — is to read a careful, cowardly double-speak. Politician after politician is signaling, as Vice President Mike Pence did, solidarity with the president, while not quite endorsing his conspiracies.

And, it seems to imply that ‘merica has a long way to go before it’s free from this

Here’s the grim kicker: The conditions that made Trump and this Republican Party possible are set to worsen. Republicans retained control of enough statehouses to drive the next redistricting effort, too, and their 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court will unleash their map-drawers more fully. The elections analyst G. Elliott Morris estimates that the gap between the popular vote margin and the tipping point state in the Electoral College will be 4 to 5 percentage points, and that the GOP’s control of the redistricting process could push it to 6 to 7 points next time.

Their elections are a farce. The fact that Biden has won by so much just seems to indicate that he actually won by a huge amount, but the gerrymandering and outright voter suppression has whittled away his votes. The country is a democratic shambles, and we aren’t far behind them

What should happen now is that Trump should litigate his grievances over the next month. When the matter is finally decided by the court the electoral college can meet on December 14 and then Biden will be president-elect. That way there should be less kvetching and a greater acceptance of the result.

It’s a bit like the same sex marriage vote. While some short-sighted types opposed the referendum, the country is better off for having had it. That issue is now dead and buried in a way that would not be the case if the public had not had the opportunity to vote.

This commentary from Real Clear Politics, which hasn’t ‘called’ the election (they currently have Biden at 259, and Trump at 214):

The Media Should Not Have ‘Called’ This Election

Joe Biden has made it clear that he will do his best to “unify” the country following an election in which more than 71 million Americans – nearly half the electorate – voted for Donald Trump. It is an admirable goal. But any chance of that happening depends on the American people having confidence that the election outcome resulted from a fair and honest process. Though never perfect, our electoral system has generally instilled confidence for the past 231 years, which is why it has worked so well.

Under the contentious circumstances of this election, the traditional media’s decision to declare a victor before the official process had run its course has diminished the confidence of Trump voters in the announced result. Even if the declaration of a Biden victory is found to be accurate, the call was premature, and it will make the effort to unify our nation far more difficult.

President Trump is contesting the reported results in those states where the race is close, and the conduct of election officials and the processes used appear suspicious. He is clearly within his rights to contest the results; his supporters generally want him to do so. Allowing the legal process to run its course is the only way to foster the unity Biden seeks.

Unity is much less likely, however, when the media simply declares a winner before the matter is resolved …

Remember the great ‘free trade’ agreement. Good times

Australia has “massively exposed ourselves” to economic retaliation by launching so many of its own anti-dumping investigations against China in a campaign of “trade harassment”, a former envoy to Beijing has argued.

    ……..

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, said at a press conference last Friday that “Australia has launched as many as 106 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations against Chinese products, while China only initiated four investigations against Australian goods”.

When asked about the issue today, Raby said there were “some legitimate cases” brought by Australia and there were formal processes to follow, “but if you have that many cases, you’re using anti-dumping as trade harassment and that’s part of our trade policy kits.”

I mean, it’s a laughable as Australia, who lock up people without charge, commit acts of piracy on the high seas, and torture immigrants in detention centres, lecturing China on their own, very real, human rights issues.

If those in glass houses couldn’t throw stones, there’d be no stone throwing, would there.

Yeah – I remember Labor and the Unions invented the White Australia Policy.

And, to save you the trouble of pointing this out, that racist turd John Howard was a fan as well.

But as scenes in courtrooms nationwide in recent days have shown, there is indeed a downside for those tasked with pursuing these claims. Repeatedly now, they have been rebuked by judges for how thin their arguments have been.

Yea, it's only almost 50 fucken years

Meanwhile, from a few years ago, the libs have gone from calling Labor racists for protecting Australian jobs, to trashing our relationship with the country they sacrificed those jobs to because of purely racist actions.

And you want to revisit shit from well over a century ago

Oh, Tom R – you are so fired up this morning! You seem to revel in defending the murderous commies in Beijing. What is it about them you like the most – Internment camps? Uighur genocide? Organ harvesting? The repressive social credit system? South China Sea aggression? Or maybe it is the suppression of basic freedoms in Hong Kong which provided a blueprint for Running Dog Dan.

And then you go and post a video of that ridiculous anti-Semite Roger Waters.

Do you understand the term ‘glass houses’?

Ah, anti semitism is …. standing up for human rights.

    Glass Houses abound

“Look to your own house and the human rights abuses and racism of the Israeli government you defend,” Waters continued. “If Jews and Palestinians are to live in peace then there must be a real acknowledgment of the fact that Israel is denying freedom to Palestinians and abusing the term ‘anti-Semitism’ to intimidate people, like me, into silence …”

What’s with the glass house thing? I don’t support any commies.

Waters supports BDS which is anti-Semitic in that it singles out Israel for much harsher treatment than countries which actually commit serious human rights abuses.

The swamp ripples with excitement as conservationists patch the drain-hole in the swamp levy, and saveTheSwamp’rs ease old-Joe back into the swamp among the democracy reeds. In the shallow end of the swamp we can see nancy frolic with other long-term swamp critters at the sight of old-joe’s return. On the far swamp bank we hear dedicated swampWatch’rs say: ‘its great to see old joe back, l wonder what he’ll do’ ; “he’s been here near on half a century, whatever he’s going to do, surely he would have done by now” .. ‘its knot what he will do that’s important, its what he WON’T do that counts!’ ; “then let’s hope voters have forgotten about all those faa reports to harden cockpits and airport security” .. ‘oh he just needs to look prezidential!’ ; “then he could try the elsberg papers” .. Here ends our tour, and l hope to see you all on our next swamp tour in four years.

ln the world l see. The baby primates roam the kooyong wasteland between the stranded assets, and shards of snapBack Tea Mugs. They will dine on the chooks of sovereign risk that returned to roost. Then floss their teeth with the strands that once made up the threads of an ancient trickleDown society. On the coast you will see tiny figures casting fish nets, made from colored tape that was never used. Feel better champ. `
