Weekend Gab Fest!
Hello!
There’s so much going on in the world, it’s hard to know where to start or which way to look.
But in whichever direction you turn there’s madness and chaos!
Aside from record (and rapidly escalating) Covid deaths in the US, and the plague spreading unchecked across Europe and the UK, and multiple allegations of sexual impropriety amongst some of Australia’s most senior government MPs, and a US President who refuses to accept electoral defeat, the biggest tragedy of all is unfolding in Queensland where Sizzler has served its last “Fried Cheese Toast.”
Popular amongst bogans and feral families, the budget style ‘buffet behemoth’ has announced it is closing its doors for good this month, citing ‘changing consumer behaviour’ for its demise.
The fact that no one wants to eat mass produced shit any more must have been quite a revelation, but it would be wrong to dismiss this as the only reason the once formidable chain has joined the ranks of Red Rooster and Oporto.
Paying thirty bucks for a piece of tanned leather masquerading as a steak served with a smattering of frozen vegetables and congealed muck purporting to be gravy is a veritable smack in the head, when you can enjoy a premium piece of perfectly grilled beef for a few dollars more at a reputable establishment without the indignity of hordes of screaming kids running riot somehow typifying the ‘ambience’.
Not that I was ever a patron, so my loss will be barely felt, however my thoughts are with TB at this difficult time.
Apparently, as a final insult, Sizzler have revealed the recipe for their “Cheese Toast.”
Happy days.
Not that I was ever a patron, so my loss will be barely felt, however my thoughts are with TB at this difficult time.
That’s very kind of you, reb … but I stopped eating at Sizzler over thirty years ago after complaining about the state of their filthy crockery and cutlery … only had the soup and salad (couldn’t afford a “real” meal)
I do confess to knowing their CEO in the early days (He had been the Financial Manager at my first employer) Got us a couple free meals for The Minister, kids and me … the other business Sizzler introduced was Toucano Char a South American themed “restaurant” meat served at the table and sides on a “plate tower” in the middle of the table …
Those were the days! Lokk at what we have now … Uber Eats … so much better******* 😎
I feel for you TB.
But I guess there’s always “Snag Stand” to fall back on…
https://www.yelp.com/biz/snag-stand-brisbane
In other news, I’m expecting the puff piece on Christian Porter to appear any day now in Murdoch’s rags…
“Why I’ve given up looking for love”..
🙄 🙄 🙄
Sizzler closed here in li’l ol Adelaide almost 20 years ago I reckon, and see how far we have come ….. 😯
“In a Pennsylvania courtroom, attorneys for Trump asked a judge to stop the counting of votes, claiming all Republican observers had been barred.
But under questioning from the judge, Trump’s lawyers conceded, using language bordering on absurd, that there was in fact “a non-zero number of [Trump’s] people in the room”.
It was thrown out.
“Non-zero” 😆 😆 😆

“Why I’ve given up looking for love”..
Yea, like any of them have given up 😉
snag stand? Never heard of it and I reluctantly visit the CBD no more than four or five times a year! (I live near the coast much nicer)
And if I couldn’t come up with something better than that menus I’d sell my outdoor kitchen tomorrow – and that ain’t gonna happen! Whole deep sea trout in the freezer ready for tomorrow night, compliments of my keen fisher-person up the road …
All is not lost!

Jesus fkn Christ I had no idea all you Mexicans were into fkn buffets … although having eaten in Melbourne I should have …
FYI … I DON’T eat out much … I’m blessed with a large extended family of cooks and chefs!
“I had no idea all you Mexicans were into fkn buffets ”
We’re not TB…
I think you overlooked the fact that ToM was being quite generous in offering a list of other ‘eating establishments’ you may wish to frequent now that ‘Sizzler’ has shut down.
You see, despite our political differences, that’s just the kind of community spirit and sense of good will this place embodies.
“I’m blessed with a large extended family of cooks and chefs!
So I see…
Bernard King! I knew him too! Remember New Faces? Asked me to attend his bloody “workshops” for “budding artists”, I couldn’t afford $2 a week … those were the days!
You see, despite our political differences, that’s just the kind of community spirit and sense of good will this place embodies.
reb, you forget our long history … and I know BS when I read it!
Pronounced Bernaaard … LOL!
I haven’t been to Brisbane since I retired!! I miss the fine dining!

Brisbane hasn’t missed you ToM …
And the QUEENSLANDER! border has been closed to Mexicans for some time now … even the Cockroaches didn’t want you … speaking of whom, suddenly yellow number plates everywhere in the Sunshine State!
And no-one’s particularly bothered about visiting Mexico, now perceived as a state full of miserable, whinging, recalcitrants … who can’t play golf, nor read …
“And no-one’s particularly bothered about visiting Mexico, now perceived as a state full of miserable, whinging, recalcitrants … who can’t play golf, nor read …”
Yeah, whereas in Queensland…

Yeah, whereas in Queensland…
She’s gone to Melbourne … all yours …
Quiet here, all you Mexicans, Cockroaches and Croweaters must be allowed out to play again … 😂
Premier Daniel Andrews has revealed he will seek advice from chief health officer Brett Sutton on whether the state’s coronavirus pandemic rules should “follow” Victorians when they travel across borders.
Great idea!! Maybe we should just have Victorian regulations apply to everyone throughout Australia!
All those careless non-mask wearers can all understand how a sensible government operates!!
And send Victorian police interstate to issue the country’s highest fines to everyone.
ToM … had the recalcitrant Victorians (that you seem to support) followed earlier INSTRUCTIONS, as Queenslanders did, primarily to protect each other .. then maybe you would be accepted by other Aussies … but the BS from so many Mexican dickheads has made ALL Victorians, including the majority that did the right thing, pariahs in other states and territories … well done … live with it …
Had a lovely Thursday fishing with friends … guess who cooked the all day breakfast? 😛

Don’t wanna do spoilers…
But Katee Sackhoff was in The Mandalorian Season 2 when I watched it last night…and His Dark Materials, Season 2, starts Tuesday…
I have spoken.
Potentially very serious outbreak in Adelaide.
I am hoping to get daughter out of there after final exam on Tuesday, she’s supposed to be doing a scholarship placement with a local GP from next week, but things seem to be escalating very quickly…hope we can get her back here for that before shit starts getting locked down hard.
Even better, outbreak somehow contained and no need for serious restrictions.
Things can get loose very quickly…but at least we’re not registering 150,000+ new cases per day.
G’day Toylet!
Is that your daughter’s final/final exam? How time disappears! Seems only yesterday you were “hoping” she would follow family tradition. Congratulations.
My g/daughter is currently in her second year of a four year nurse/paramedic double on her latest prac. in Coolum, then finished for this year. She also works casual at JB HiFi – staff discount is really good!!!
… son in law just graduated from Salford Uni with his Masters in Project Engineering.
All adds to a broad range of “skills and knowledge” across our family.
Stay safe.
ASX been flatlining since just after 10:00 am Eastern Silly Time
Apparently a technical glitch has halted trading on the ASX

Not a murmur at news.com …
What wonderful economic managers this pitiful Sooty & The Gang are proving not to be ….
Perhaps but in 2016 Coalition introduced a new method to determine income. They used a computer method rather than fortnightly statements. I don’t know but i suspect it was the next step in computerising Robodebt which started in 2011. This world is becoming more computerised all the time.
Apparently not only was income averaging a bad way to determine income it was also illegal. Hence the lawsuit. I would like to know what advice Roberts/Coalition received when the new income determining method was introduced
Roberts/Coalition received when the new income determining method was introduced
A lot that they ignored! And ended up at the AAT!
TB
Most politicians are not that smart. I suspect that whatever the Coalition introduced in 2016 was the next step in a fully compterised system thought up by the Public Service. But for some reason not only was income averaging a bad way to determine income but it was illegal for some reason.
Remember when the RWNJ’s argued against Australia’s lockdowns citing Sweden’s strategy as superior …..
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
I also remember when Sweden was held up by the LWNJs as an example of the type of democracy and economy that Australia should be.
What they tended to ignore is that the people that live in Sweden weren’t so keen on that system!
What they tended to ignore is that the people that live in Sweden weren’t so keen on that system!
Link?
Go on admit that Dan got it right!
And BTW a system is only as good as the people who operate it … for a link(s) check any news outlet and online media and pay particular attention to a boofhead named Trump …
Most politicians are not that smart.
Ya got that right … but they don’t listen to people who are!
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/jun/06/centrelink-was-warned-robodebts-could-be-inaccurate-more-than-four-years-ago
And Ministers are continually slow learners in the Morrison government …

Unless they have their hands in the public purse, profiting from personal dodgy deals and
entertaining themselves and donors at taxpayer expense!
This government couldn’t manage a fuck in a brothel!
There is no need for a link TB, the evidence is the government they elect and the policies in place, with public support.
Sweden was held up by the LWNJs as an example … What they tended to ignore is that the people that live in Sweden weren’t so keen on that system!
Link?
the evidence is the government they elect
WTF are you talking about … what “evidence” to your (very) original comment?
What evidence? Who wasn’t so keen and why?
“WTF are you talking about”
My sentiments exactly… 🙄
https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2020/11/17/stuart-robert-robodebt-post-truth/
I hope the bastard’s lying arse burns off …
Politics in Sweden is deeply divided, the traditional parties are even more on the nose than here. Try google.com.au
It contains some relevant information
My sentiments exactly…
I forgot you had sentimental side, reb … 😎
Try google.com.au
No you justify your comments … I’m well aware of the diverse parties an the structure of the minority coalition government – if that’s what you mean — say it!
Whenever you are challenged you always come up “political fudge speak” or “boardroom burble” …
TB, it’s always entertaining when you get all huffy and demanding
As for “boardroom burble”… can you explain (again) how you marched into that boardroom and told that what’s what!!
“it’s always entertaining when you get all huffy and demanding”
Oh, the irony…
More bluster … I’ve never walked into a boardroom and told anyone anything …
As usual hypocrisy and narcissism
And a a massive look over there!
You know why we like you here … it’s always entertaining when you get all huffy … and avoiding an answer … from what is usually a dumb comment with no foundation …
I also remember when Sweden was held up by the LWNJs as an example of the type of democracy and economy that Australia should be.
All I asked for was a LINK to your assertion … still waiting … as usual …
This is more dangerous than, ToM’s comments!

Why do you always expect others to do your research? If you disagree, say why.
I’ve given you all the help you require to do some research
In case youse are wondering, my Trump bets are still alive. Something to do with “contested”.
I’ve given you all the help you require to do some research
No you made a statement I call BS —
I also remember when Sweden was held up by the LWNJs as an example of the type of democracy and economy that Australia should be.
Your “memory” isn’t proof …
TB, I don’t care what you call anything. Bluster away!
If you have a different view, express it and you’re welcome to post a link that disproves mine if you wish.
But really just because you say -” LINK!!” , is no reason for me to jump to attention. In fact the complete opposite is the case
Try doing a little of your own research, you might learn something
Sad news for Splats…
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Try doing a little of your own research, you might learn something
How could I ever research what goes on in your mind … if I could, I doubt I’d learn anything …
YOU made a comment beginning with “I remember” … that’s not “research” that’s BS … you need to prove it … as most of us here do – with a link as evidence …
Don’t blame others for your nonsense …
ToM, I don’t care what you write. Bluster away!
Its good fun to watch you dodge and weave …
Can’t wait for the next BS Bulletin …
If you don’t care what i write, why do you make demands about what I write.
TB’s personal motto- Spaccano quindi sono
“I bluster therefore I am”
Has Morrison and Frydenberg called for SA’s lockdown to be lifted yet?
“I bluster therefore I am”
lol, I just saw this first, and … lol
Anyway, here we are, trapped by Dictator Steve after a MASSIVE fiasco with rooting security guards and DISASTROUS contact tracing.
OR
An unfortunate series of events means, SA is now VIC
Sorry for all that shit we said 🙂
I guess frydenburgers about to blast us, and scotties gonna be making veiled threats across the closed borders?
Can’t wait for credlin to rock up to our first press conference to ask what happened when with whomever was where …. sorry, what was my question, and why are you such a bad dictator who wants to rule the world?
On the other hand, for some reason I cannot quite pinpoint, I reckon we might get treated a little better than Vic did by the rightWingFuckwittery
Remember how some people died installing Pink Batts because companies broke the law, and Peter Garrett lost his job.
Now, a Government explicitly sets out to badger people into giving them money, killing an untold number of victims, and nobody is going to lose their job even. Why?
Oh I used to like this game …
Partum ego cogito ergo sum, ToM
Oh wait … here’s another quote from ToM!
Cogito ergo sum ego faciam in cacas
Oh WOW! Another
Perge igitur et ego peperi infinitum
And another …

Noice …
Been out all day gotta catch up on markets and “news” … see youse …

Typical Mordock hypocritical crap …
Now, a Government explicitly sets out to badger people into giving them money, killing an untold number of victims, and nobody is going to lose their job even. Why?
Because it never happened. You have a link for that accusation??
BTW Robodebt started in 2011 under Shorten/ALP. In 2016 Coalition introduced a new method to determine income- income averaging. It turned out to be a disaster. Also for some reason income averaging is against the law, hence the lawsuit.

TomR
I think you are insane. Lots of things in that post
1.Relationship break up
2. Bullying at work
3.unemployed
4. mental heath problems so he moved back with his Mum
5. Applied to join the Army but was rejected
6, Rejected for unemployment benefit
What has being rejected for the unemployment benefit got to do with Robodebt?
Why would a healthy 22 year old man kill himself because he had a $2,000 debt. Most people have lots more debt than that.
You know suicide is a difficult problem.
Only a sick and demented Labor Party voter would use dead bodies for political purposes. You are an evil man who use dead bodies to support your beliefs.
The number of deaths pre 2016 was the same as post 2016 when the Coalition changed some things in Labors Robodebt scheme
Kneel, you are the biggest heartless, dumbarse on the internet and I’ve read so many!
… ever heard of the straw that broke the camel’s back … why keep kicking people when they are down!
Only a sick and demented Labor Party voter would use dead bodies for political purposes. You are an evil man who use dead bodies to support your beliefs.
Only a person lacking human feeling would attack the defence of a victim with a political insult for his extreme misguided political purpose in defending cruel and misguided political decisions – evil does not even describe your comments – demented maybe.
Shame on you … if I was christian I would condemn you to purgatory.
Thankfully I’m not …
And the Robodebt in question???? That Kneels so desperately defends!
(BTW, lovin’, The Last Kingdom books! Thanks, Bernie Cornwall)
“Nothing is new” — 1995, Aish, Associate Professor, Cairo Museum, (Nile River guide)
… ever heard of the straw that broke the camel’s back … why keep kicking people when they are down!
OK i am willing to admit i may be heartless
But why would a healthy 22 year old man kill himself over a $2,000 debt??
My experience is that ALP/Greens are heartless and use dead bodies for political purposes.
Nobody knows why that 22 year old committed suicide
BTW your second link is wrong
In July 2016, the manual system was replaced with the Online Compliance Intervention,
This is garbage. In 2011 the manual system was replaced with OCI but Labor had a human check the computers results. In 2016 Coalition removed human checking of the computers results
The media loves to tell lies about the Coalition. Robodebt started in 2011 when Shorten/ALP replaced manual checking between the ATO and Centrelink with computers to save money
HYPOCRISY writ large! (Just why Labor won the election)

TB
You should comment on my post. I think ALP/Greens supporters use dead bodies for political purpose.
Why would a healthy 22 year old man with a $2,000 debt commit suicide?? Have you ever had a $2,000 debt???
BTW data matching between the ATO and Centrelink started in the early 1990’s when Richardson was Minister. In 2011 Shorten/ALP computerised the process to save money. That is when Robodebt started
One by one:
Not maybe … you are heartless …
What has age and debt value to do with despair … heartless … would age or value change anything … human beings are fragile and ultimately feel responsible … absolutely heartless …
Your experience is NOT evidence and its not experience – its brain washing – your comment demonstrates an extreme right wing mentality …
You got that right … so why do you keep questioning why he committed suicide … its pretty obvious to any intelligent person …
The second link? There is only one?
Do you mean …
In July 2016, the manual system was replaced with the Online Compliance Intervention,
Online Compliance Intervention ——- OCI
And your subsequent comment …
This is garbage. In 2011 the manual system was replaced with OCI but Labor had a human check the computers results. In 2016 Coalition removed human checking of the computers results
Do you understand that … the Labor system had a human check the computers results and was replaced – in 2016 Coalition removed human checking of the computers results
Do you know who the PM was in 2016?
Do you know anything?
Are you a Liberal regurgitation computer?
I forgot how difficult it was to engage the automaton … the first line, above, is a clue …
the Labor system had a human check the computers results and was replaced – in 2016 Coalition removed human checking of the computers results
Ok for once you got something right. But Robodebt started in 2011 when Shorten/ALP removed humans and replaced them with computers to data match between the ATO and Centrelink
Fact is some people died after 2016 when Coalition made some changes to Labors Robodebt scheme. Guess what? The death rate was the same pre 2016
Like all lefties you are EVIL. You use dead bodied for political purposes.
My experience is that ALP/Greens are heartless and use dead bodies for political purposes.
Children Overboard?
Pink Batts?
fark you’re an idiot nil
the Labor system had a human check the computers results
Yes, nothing wrong with using the method to garner a data set to work with, a different thing to just assume everyone within that set has a debt. I mean, it went from 2,000 per year to 2,00 per week. Someone must have known then that something was up then. Yet they lied and bullied for years, bringing untold misery to thousands
TomR you said this
Now, a Government explicitly sets out to badger people into giving them money, killing an untold number of victims
now you say this
Yet they lied and bullied for years, bringing untold misery to thousands
Like all lefties you are evil. In this case you are using dead bodies for political purposes, You went from saying the Coalition killed untold numbers of people to the Coalition brought untold misery
TomR you are a misleader and deceiver of people and get sexual thrills telling lies. And those are your good points
TomR you are a misleader and deceiver of people and get sexual thrills telling lies

OK i lost my temper and said things i should not have said. But what should i have said to this comment by TomR??
Now, a Government explicitly sets out to badger people into giving them money, killing an untold number of victims
TomR stated a Coalition govt policy killed untold numbers of people. If true the Coalition should be condemned
TomRs statement is wrong. TomR made a wicked comment that is not true.
That is why i could not vote for ALP/Greens. Most of their comments are wrong. Furthermore TomR is using dead bodies for political purposes
So that’s how you really get your “sexual thrills”, TR
I shall neither deny nor confirm those …… intriguing ideas 😉
A report today outlines that the military has uncontrolled thugs in its ranks that neglected their duty… on the same day as a report details the uncontrolled thugs in the police neglected their duty to protect the public.
It’s time politicians stopped thanking these people. It makes me want to puke every time a politician thinks it is popular to brown nose to these thugs on that are the public payroll
Sportsbet wagers on Trump are still alive, and Betfair’s market for next president is still open. Just sayin’.

2. Data matching between the ATO and Centrelink was computerised by Shorten/ALP in 2011. Robodebt had started
3. In 2016 Coalition removed human checking of the computers results and introduced a new method to determine income-income averaging which turned out to be a disaster and also illegal for some reason
4. The ABC, the taxpayer funded media arm of the ALP decided to publish the number of people who died after Coalition changes in 2016
Question- Why did the ABC decide to publish the number of people who died after the Coalition made changes to Labors Robodebt scheme started in 2011
BTW it turns out that the number of deaths pre 2016 was the same as post 2016

I looked at the first page and did not see anyone say they died after 2016. If fact it was that NotMyDebt guy who pointed out to me that the death rate after 2016 was the same as before 2016. He told me on Twitter before i was banned
He told me on Twitter before i was banned
And …. that was your link???
Yes and no. The ABC Hack article implying that 2.030 people died after 2016 due to Coalition policy changes also posted a comment down the bottom of the article that the death rate after 2016 was a normal death rate
But that 2,030 people who died morphed into 2,000 people committed suicide
Fact is after 2016 notices were sent to 900,000 people during the time the ABC HACK article investigated and 2,030 died. A normal death rate for a population that size
And you wonder why i get angry
And you wonder why i get angry
He told me on Twitter before i was banned
Twitter! Banned!
Pretty hard to “prove” suicides are linked to any one thing …
However …
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/minister-denies-robodebt-caused-more-than-2000-deaths-20190217-p50yep.html
And linking the death rate to ALL Centrelink recipients is mischievous to say the least … the majority of Centrelink clients are aged pensioners … who don’t work …
This is the ABC HACK article which caused people to believe 2,000 people committed suicide after 2016 after Coalition made changes to Robodebt started in 2011. It says this down the bottom
https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/2030-people-have-died-after-receiving-centrelink-robodebt-notice/10821272
“The department sent more than 900,000 debt letters to individuals during the period 1 July 2016 to 31 October 2018. A total of 2030 of those individuals died during the same period, which represents 0.21 per cent.”
This was more than ten times lower than the overall death rate for all of the department’s customers during the same period, which was 3.64 per cent.”
And you wonder why i hate the ABC, Greens, ALP and all leftists
One more time for the dummies
The department sent more than 900,000 debt letters to individuals during the period 1 July 2016 to 31 October 2018. A total of 2030 of those individuals died during the same period, which represents 0.21 per cent.”

One more time for the dummies
“during the same period”
you said
2016 was a normal death rate
So, still waiting on link that this is ‘normal’ with pre 2016
But to your irrelevant comment, this was the next text after your cut and paste of irrelevancy
It’s important to note here that the figures provided by the spokesperson include deaths of people who receive a pension payment, which by definition puts them in the older age bracket.
Apparently, older people die more than younger people. Who knew?
But you continue to support a party that has used deaths for years to try and blame on Labor, while they implement policies that “explicitly sets out to badger people, many who had multiple problems already, into giving them money, killing an untold number of victims.”
And meanwhile, I shall await a relevant link with relevant info. Seems to be something I do a lot of. At least yomm just posts his worldly experiences as his ‘links’, not stupid crap that means nothing
Wait …………. oh, so you’re both doing the same thing, just with different methods 😉
TomR
You are the one making the allegation. Not me. The ABC Hack article implied that there was nothing unusual about 2,030 people dying out of 900,000 over a 2 year period.
You are the one using dead bodies for political purposes so i think you should front up with evidence for your claims
Death rate in Australia is 6.3 per 1,000 people every year. So for 900,000 people that means 5,000-6,000 people should die.
So 2,030 people dying on Centrelink payments out of 900,000 people over 2 years is normal
Ni dil, the article didn’t imply it, the liberal minister did. And to do that, he used the death rate of old age pensioners as a comparison. In short, he was bullshitting. I’m not surprised you fell for it.
There is nothing there at all about pre 2016, nothing.
Pretty much like inside your head
Did someone mention Sweden?
https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/swedens-herd-immunity-strategy-has-failed-hospitals-inundated/news-story/374e397d9232036000a1d38548eabff9
Sweden at least are FINALLY beginning to see the error of their ways TB. Too little, too late?
As has pvo. At least someone in the media is agitating about this. I assume he is going to be disappeared from our airwaves soon?
Eventually they catch up!
Been sayin’ it for (too many) years now …
You’d think it would be common sense,*hey?
Good on PvO – not always agreed with his comments but he got this right!
Ni dil, the article didn’t imply it, the liberal minister did.
TomR the ABC article started with this headline
Over 2000 people died after receiving Centrelink robo-debt notice, figures reveal
What are people supposed to think?? It was that Notmydebt guy on Twitter who told me there was nothing sinister about the death rate.
2,030 people dying out of 900,000 people who received notices over a two year period is normal. You want to believe those 2,000 people died due to Coalition policy. So do most ALP supporters. That is the problem.
What are people supposed to think?
lol. You. Talking about thinking . lol
Speaking of thinking, did anyone think to ask the pm WHY he would take a photographer into lockdown with him. AND, if it is even within the rules? I was under the impression lockdown was with your immediate family?
Superannuation doesn’t bother me much these days I can’t add to it in Drawdown and I was never eligible for Compulsory Super (went into business in 1992).
BUT … there are people in my family who are in their late teen, early twenties and late twenties … so I still have an interest …
Why do politicians get 15.4% super and workers 9.5% … why would Liberal politicians stop or stall the next super rise to 10% (eventually 12%)?
This is the same political party who detests people on welfare … so they make it difficult for people to create a retirement fund … and then whinge when they have to support them?
Ya can’t have two bites at the same cherry! Especially if its someone else’s fkn cherry!
Why do politicians get 15.4% super and workers 9.5% …
All govt workers get 15.4% Super because they have access to taxpayers money and strong Unions. It used to be even more generous. They used to be on defined benefit benefit schemes getting a pension for life. Costello put a end to around around 2005. But gone are the days when Public Servants are paid less than private sector employees
Costello put a end to around around 2005
I think you’ll find they nicked Mark Latham’s* 2004 policy …
* soap isn’t enough, Mark Latham, was/still is a dick! But credit where credit is due … IT.WAS.NOT.LIBERAL.POLICY.
and strong Unions
..
But gone are the days when Public Servants are paid less than private sector employees
Perplexing really, isn’t it.
TomR
My understanding is that Public Servants used to get lower wages in exchange for job security. Now they appear to get getting higher wages or at least better Super and job security. How many PS’s lost their jobs during the pandemic??
My understanding is
Just gives me a laugh every time 🙂
Well that puts paid to an old “argument” …
Actually it was the CCP’s introduction of capitalism and joining the World Trade Organisation and the Western democracy’s willingness to trade …
Which begs the question why?
Why not lift India out of poverty in the same way? And simply ignore China and trade … reduced trade, reduced wealth, reduced power, reduced militiary,
reduced possibility of armed conflict, civilians being slaughtered in their millions …The present Liberal Feral* Government is really good at handling Australia’s economy …
https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2020/11/24/paul-bongiorno-china-policy-bad-business/
How good was Paul Keating on ABC730 last night…?
Takes me back to a time when politicians actually knew their stuff rather than just their lines.
Agree, reb … tho’ PK did stumble a couple of times his argument was sound fkn Liberal’s have no idea when it comes to the economy … still fucking around with Reagan’s Trickle Down Shit …
Looks a lot different to when I met him in 1992 in Brisbane! But then we all do! I mean … just look at you! 😎
Trump agrees to begin transition to Biden administration
Liberal’s have no idea when it comes to the economy
Twice in the lifetimes of Australians we had ZERO govt debt and low unemployment, in 1972 and 2007.
Both of those times it was the Coalition that produced ZERO govt debt and low unemployment. Both of those times LABOR was elected, trashed the budget and did untold damage. After Whitlam trashed the budget debt reached 18% of GDP by 1996. Howard/Costello reduced debt to ZERO by 2007
Then Rudd trashed the budget but this time i see no end to increasing govt debt. Those who think govt debt is not a problem are about to find out
Yes, Paul Keating was great! What a pity the unions f***ed his reforming government
They delivered the government to Howard and, because they resisted Keating’s attempt to reform the waterfront, the Patrick’s dispute as well.
We should be so grateful that they control the ALP
Unions BOO!
Yes TB, they f***ed the Keating Government. But you’d probably think that’s fine.
As usual, Tommy, your assumptions are incorrect
You’re welcome to prove them wrong. But i doubt whether you will.
Your assumptions … you prove ’em …
Your assumptions are absolutely incorrect.
Unions Boo!
Liberal’s have no idea when it comes to the economy
Name me one Labor govt that has left the economy in good shape??
In 1972 Whitlam/ALP was handed a economy with unemployment at 2% and zero govt debt. In 2007 Rudd/ALP were handed a economy with zero govt debt and unemployment at 4%
TB, rest assured, you are the very last person I would follow directions from.
It’s a typical intellectually lazy reply- ” you prove it, and I’ll let you know when you’ve proved it to my satisfaction ”
You’re welcome to demonstrate that I’m wrong, but I doubt whether you’re capable of that.
“It’s a typical intellectually lazy reply”
Really, do you have a link for that, or is it just your own
feelpinionbullshitlazy reply…?You’re welcome to prove them wrong
Normally, when someone makes a statement, and others call bullshit, it’s the one making the statement that needs to prove their assertion
Usually 😉
The fuck is it with our ‘leaders”
In sa, we shut the state down (harsher than the Vics ever did) on the word(?) of a one foreign student with dubious English skills who has been forced by our federal Government to beg, borrow and or steal for the last year to survive, and they have hung him out to dry. Even IF he lied (which, considering our federal Government was using google fucking translate to warn foreigners of Covid, (inaccurately it turns out)), who the hell shuts a state down without confirming the story?
And in nsw, their ‘leader’ makes up her of COVID rules to suit her.
What do all these clusterfucks have in common?
Anyone can use google to find the efforts unions of unions to stymie the Keating Government’s waterfront reform agenda. It is lazy to just demand a link.
That’s TB’s default reply and I don’t bother to conform to his demands. Quite the contrary.
So, the waterfront reform brought down Keating? Cos … Union = BOO?
It wasn’t his arrogance about dragging us through the ‘recession we had to have’?
Here’s one of those things you hate yomm

Too true
What absolute hypocrisy … again … Cormann was a member of the “lifters and leaners club” (or the Hockey club) both a pair of fkn leaners … BIG leaners …
So what is your point?? The ALP is more moral than the Coalition??
I could never vote ALP/Greens because those people do not believe in borders and want one world govt ruled by the UN, But I lost interest in the Coalition when they made Turnbull leader. The man had some good points but he was in the wrong party. Conservative aussies do know who to vote for these days

PS TB your comments are really useful Thanks for thank. Most things you believe are wrong so i know the truth is to believe the opposite of your opinions
What a frightening thought!
Thank goodness I utilise JB Hi Fi!
So many holes in that article.
1. I didn’t write the article
2. O said … “Check out SloMo Sooty’s face mask … and the Australian flag!”

TB Thanks for telling me the truth.
WTF … ?
From TB’s link
Even in areas where our national government has traditionally had clear, overarching responsibility, such as quarantine and aged care, Morrison stepped back, finding it easier to concede, criticise and blame, rather than act.
And yet, why do we only read this in the Guardian?
Why won’t costellos fairfax or murdochs shitrags or print this?
Those that seem to default to the position that quarantine is a federal responsibility seem to ignore https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2016C00847
Probs because of this yomm with link but no context
while the Commonwealth government has “primary responsibility for international border surveillance and public health events occurring at international border
https://www.loc.gov/law/help/health-emergencies/australia.php
And it outlines the responsibilities of states in matters relating to quarantine.
The ALP and “I stand with Dan” cheer club always overlook the act. I don’t know whether it is wilful ignorance or partisan stupidity.
“Check out SloMo Sooty’s face mask … and the Australian flag!”

Internationally considered an insult … (or signal of distress)

Yes
“while the Commonwealth government has “primary responsibility for international border surveillance and public health events occurring at international border”
But they fobbed that off to the states to run quarantine for returning passengers for international flights. No wonder he wants the minutes of the national cabinet kept secret. Andrews tried several times to get him to disclose them
I don’t know whether it is wilful ignorance or partisan stupidity.
Mmmm … referring to whom? Sounds more like a RabidRightWingNutJob …

I was listening to 2GB one Sunday night and the host had Gerry Harvey on. After Harvey had left the host got lots of abusive phone calls about why should such a man be allowed on 2GB. Harvey generates hatred like John Howard does.
What is so bad about Gerry Harveys business practices?? He actually employs people
l have to say l absolutely love 2020. The year that all teabag mythology was totally blasted to bits. The part l enjoyed the very most was, right on the cusp of the teabags awarding themselves gold ‘economic-manager’ medals, super-bug yanked the rug out from beneath them. Too bad about that surplus. But i was listening to 2GB one Sunday night and Bill Crews who is some religious guy who gives free food and he had Gerry Harvey on because he was one of his biggest donors.
After the segment finished many people phoned up just abusing Harvey. Just hatred from the leftists. I think Harvey may have said once why give money to poor people because it will make no difference. So he got abused
If true so what, He employs more people than i do.
Anyone does!

TomR
Data matching between the ATO and Centrelink was computerised in 2011. Robodebt started then.
In 2016 Coalition introduced a new method to determine income called income averaging which turned out to be a disaster and was also illegal for some reason
This world is being computerised more and more. Whatever the Coalition did in 2016 most probably would have occurred no matter who was in power
Except, Labor didn’t do it, even though they admitted they wanted to automate it, they knew they couldn’t.
Because it was wrong. morrision didn’t care, he just saw another group of people he could terrorize.
Except Labor did automate it in 2011. Labor politicians have a hide like an elephant. OK Labor did have humans check the automated results before the computer sent them out. Coalition removed human checking in 2016.
But the illegal bit was a new method to determine income called income averaging. Like all ALP people you mislead and deceive
And the illegal bit was a new method to determine income called income averaging by the LNP. Like all LNP people you attempt to mislead and deceive
Except Labor did automate it in 2011.
Only for internal use. They still had manual oversight, because they knew the data was dodgy. As did this mob
But the illegal bit was a new method to determine income called income averaging.
No, the illegal bit was using that as their only oversight. Fark it’s hard when someone is so slow/ideologically blind
Media Release:
New data matching to recover millions in welfare dollars
29 June 2011
A new data matching initiative between Centrelink and the Australian Taxation Office is expected to claw back millions of dollars from welfare recipients who have debts with the Australian Government.
Minister for Human Services Tanya Plibersek and Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten today said the new initiative will enhance Centrelink’s debt recovery ability and is expected to recover more than $71 million over four years.
Beginning on July 1 this year, Centrelink and the ATO will automatically match data on a daily basis as a way of cross-checking former welfare recipients who have a debt with the Commonwealth.
Those who are identified as having debts and who haven’t made repayment arrangements with Centrelink may have their tax refunds garnisheed when they lodge their income tax return.
“The Government prefers to work with people and provide them with flexible debt repayment options, rather than having to garnishee their tax refunds,” said Ms Plibersek.
“But if people fail to come to an arrangement to settle their debts, the Government has a responsibility to taxpayers to recover that money.”
Ms Plibersek said Centrelink customers sometimes incurred a debt with the Commonwealth because they either inadvertently or intentionally claimed a benefit they were not entitled to.
Mr Shorten said the tax garnishee process had been carried out manually once a year for the past 15 years and involved a significant amount time on the part of the departmental officers.
“The automation of this process will free up resources and result in more people being referred to the tax garnishee process, retrieving more outstanding debt on behalf of taxpayers,” he said.

When the health department says a vaccine is safe, that should be good enough for Qantas.
I think their problem was, they just went with ‘when it’s available’ 😉
Oh yea, and long term health effects won’t be known for … well, a long time 😉
Approval is the role of the health department, including considering long term effects.
Those that don’t want to vaccinate can drive to Hawaii
Since you obviously didn’t read the link, I’ll repeat it for you
But de Juniac said it was a too early to start making plans around the vaccine.
“For the moment, we have had this very good news on the vaccine but it is a bit premature to say when and how the vaccination progress will be spread all around the world and the whole world will be done,” de Juniac said.
“People want and need global mobility … but border closures and quarantine measures make travel impossible,” he added during the organisation’s annual general meeting.
joyce was just being a dick and going off half cokkheaded again. It’s like his main trait
I don’t recall Joyce saying it was immediate.

or having to stickyTape more fiber to the wireCo telegraph wires.
I guess you are talking about the recent fibre upgrade for some people from FTTN to FTTP. It is only for those on high speed plans costing $100/month or more. And you have to ask for it. I guess NBNCo is worried about the coming competition from 5G
I don’t recall Joyce saying it was immediate.

I blame China
Had the NBN rolled out as originally planned … you too could access such speed!
Nope it would be unaffordable for me. I was one of the so-called lucky ones who got fiber (FTTP) and i get 11Mbps with TPG’s NBN12 plan because that is all the speed i need and am willing to pay for. Who knows what the cost would be for a full fiber network.
And landline phones do not work anymore during a power failure because the NBN needs electricity to work at home. Unlike the old system which had a UPS
I think Qantas knows more about safety than you TB. But since you know so much, can you explain what this group has to do with aircraft safety?
Good question
… can you explain what this group has to do with aircraft safety?
Yes I can … can you? (If you have to ask I guess you can’t grasp simple concepts related to H&S))
Yea, our media landscape is fucked
When you say “There goes the 100% safety record … people like,
You must be talking about the airline safety record (that people like), because Qantas doesn’t have a 100% OHS record. And when flying, most people aren’t as bothered about an OHS record as they are about the airline safety.
So perhaps you could explain how this group effects airline safety
(Pst, 2021 will be much like 2020.
The baby teabags will be fine; probably.)
Re: China trade
I think there seem to be 2 options –
* we grovel to them and promise never to get uppity again, or
* we make an uncomfortable adjustment away from reliance on China
I think an uncomfortable adjustment is preferred. They’ll continue to buy our iron ore, because they have no option at present. But we’re a decade late in reducing our reliance on them.
I think there seem to be 2 options
So option 3, don’t be racist pricks, is off the table?
(Yep. War crimes, muppet island still hasn’t learned a fcuking thing from vietnam, or goose steppin’ along as yankeeland’s deputy sheriff.
Je suis Charlie?)
“we make an uncomfortable adjustment away from reliance on China”
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed YoM, but pretty much every item of clothing we wear these days is made in China, not to mention pretty much everything that’s for sale in Big W, Kmart and Target.
Scott Morrison with his desk thumping demand for an apology from China is comedy gold.
They haven’t answered the phone for what – six months now…?
What makes him think he’s going to get an apology?
I reckon we need to get Morrison one of those tiny ‘leaders’ desks they got Trump. It’d suit the image perfectly… LULZ.
every item of clothing we wear these days is made in China,
Will we soon be seeing a pair of Aussie flag budgie smugglers embroidered with “I stopped these” on his tiny desk?
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed YoM, but pretty much every item of clothing we wear these days is made in China
I’m currently wearing a t-shirt made in Honduras!
But really the adjustment isn’t what we buy, it’s what they buy, and right now they’ll buy our iron ore, and will avoid buying much else from us.
As for stopping being “racist pricks” –
1. What is the evidence for that?
2. If we do that, without a grovelling apology do you think they’ll be buying our wine next week, next year or maybe next decade?
1. What is the evidence for that?
1. Going of half cocked to send in weapons inspector type investigators to find out how the Chinese fucked up
2. The megaphone diplomacy of yelling at Dan Andrews for having the temerity to utilize the Belt and Road financing when morrisons own government had undercut the Vics budget for them
3. ‘Shanghai Sam’
Should I go on?
abbott finally got it right. Baddies v baddies
I’m currently wearing a t-shirt made in Honduras!
Of course you are … played golf in it have we … then off to the library?
1. The statement re the inquiry made no mention of China . That’s just the supposition made by the left, which isn’t reflected in the statement
2. The Belt and Road agreement became an issue AFTER China started targeting Australian exports
3. China obviously doesn’t understand robust politics here, because that was around the time of all the contention about dual nationality
China is a bully, and there is no easy way through this. It’s best we reduce our reliance on them during a downturn. It will be more painful during an upturn
TB, you haven’t explained how the group Qantas is outsourcing will effect aircraft safety

Apart from that, everything he said is pretty much wrong. Again.

2. Who made who? It was about attacking Dan Andrews, and calling names to Chinese at the same time.
3. yea, sorry, that’s just racist buslhit, nothing can change that (and it had nothing to do with dual citizenship, it was about Sam hanging out with Chinese)
Yes, it’s typical of the ALP cheer club to post an opinion from the Guardian, as the text of the statement provides no support for the claim.
If there is anything to be offended about, it may have been Dutton’s clumsy statement in April suggesting that China clean up its wet markets. Even though it was clumsy and poorly timed, it wasn’t exactly unreasonable.
And yes, China is very thin skinned for such a brutal dictatorship

But go on, continue to defend a racist with such a long history of racism.
It’s interesting that those most inclined to criticise the US over their domestic policies and human rights record are those most reluctant to even tolerate a hint of criticism about Chinese domestic policies or its bullying of Australia
its bullying of Australia
WAAAAH, they sent a nasty meme about OUR SOLDIERS MURDERING CHILDREN
Just thought something was getting lost in the hysteria of ‘we’re not THAT racist (according to my scale)’
Meanwhile …..
The states are doing what morrison cant
State leaders are begging the Morrison government to play nice with China over fears growing tensions will hurt local jobs and industries.
It’s a tactic Prime Minister Scott Morrison looks set to adopt this week after he warned Coalition colleagues on Tuesday against giving more air time to China’s provocative social media attack on Australia.
https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/national/2020/12/02/australia-china-relations-2/
So, apparently, it IS within his remit to pull up colleagues when they need it. He just chooses not to.
baby teabags
Still laughing at that . yomm is Tim 🙂
Tom R, do you miss the point deliberately? I don’t really care about people putting provocative images on social media
The real issue is fabricating reasons to damage Australian jobs and the economy.
Are you willing to approve that?
Are you willing to approve that?
No. But why are you blaming the Chinese? morrision is the one responsible for that.
lolz
Some of our actions the Chinese Government objects to-
* legislation regarding agents of influence. Recommended for national security. Would you propose repealing that?
* excluding Huawei from the telecommunications industry. Recommended for national security. Would you allow them back in?
* supporting international law inthe South China Sea. Would you decline to support this and act against the other nations that believe they are threatened?
These are the important matters, the stuff about an inquiry or Shanghai Sam, that’s a sideshow.
Some of our actions the Chinese Government objects to-
*Loudly declaring that any meeting between a Labor memebr and a Chinese person is against the national interest (while doing exactly the same themselves)
*Calling Labor racists for excluding Huawei from the NBN, and then excluding Huawei from the telecommunications industry themselves. By their own words, what does that make them?
Along with all of the other before mentioned ,and many other non mentioned, targeting of Chinese interests (while continuing to take their money from behind their backs)
Can you remind me what the ALP had to say about Gladys Liu?

Although, it could be too late now
#VagCushions is going to be trending soon
the LNP Coalition has been in “control” (snigger) for over seven years … just about how long it took for Australian – Chinese relationship to sour … and China to own a number of strategic parts of Australia …
And BTW, where is the $480,000 consultant to China ex-Trade Minister Andrew Robb … gone to ground I hear … he should be arrested for treason …
Try leasing a strategic port in China …

Politics in the rear vision mirror
If only people hadn’t been ‘whinging’ about our government being racist pricks for the past several years, hey
Gladys Liu? Like that kind of thing?
Do you seriously think the sideshow issues are the ones deeply troubling Beijing?
Gladys Liu?
Yes, that’s a question. More directly, WHAT’S YOUR POINT?
Do you seriously think the sideshow issues are the ones deeply troubling Beijing?
A decade of racist taunts and jibes is a “sideshow issue”?
There were some nuanced questions from the ALP about her allegiance.
And we know racism can be very nuanced
This is a case about the listed company Site Group International Ltd. PP is its subsidiary. It is a Registered Training Organisation. This is instructive as to the business model:
“Two years later, on 16 March 2017 a compliance report was provided to PP. That report asserted as follows:
a. between 1 January 2013 and September 2016 PP enrolled 9,983 online enrolments;
b. 7,546 students completed 0 units of competency;
c. Students who achieved no units of competency were charged a total of $72,443,272.68 in the VET FEE HELP representing 83.62% of the entire amount of the VET FEE HELP money claimed by PP since 2013;
d. Of the 9983 enrolments, 165 were issued qualifications representing a completion rate of 1.65%.
e. 3319 enrolments completed zero units of competency and in addition progressed past the first census date and were charged a total of $22,660,542.68 for second, third or fourth census dates – representing a total of 26.16% of the total monies charged;
f. 7,518 of the 9,983 online enrolments occurred in the period 1 July 2015 – 31 December 2015 and they were charged $55,554,104.18. Of those enrolments 36 students (0.47%) were issued with qualifications and only 124 completed a unit of competency.
It shows that when governments hand out money with no oversight or controls there are plenty of “entrepreneurs” willing to cash in.
In this case the regulator had a win at the AAT. As to the managing director the tribunal found:
“I am satisfied that the applicant does not satisfy the fit and proper person requirements in Schedule 3 of the Standards and does not adequately comply with Standard 7.1″
The tragedy is that the VET Fee Help system hasn’t been seriously reformed, this case is more the rule than the exception and in other cases the dollars involved are even larger.

Yes the Gladys Liu questions were subtle racism. You know like Morrison being racist for calling for an independent inquiry into the virus, even though he made no mention of China.

Banning Dan Andrews from an initiative that they had already backed in other countries?
oh yea, wanting to blame China for a virus before they knew the details, that one!
How long do I need to go on?
The standard you walk past ………
Hang on. Shanghai Sam was years ago. The other stuff was ages ago
Why has China waited until now to get bothered?
I think you’re being a little disingenuous, because you are unable to justify your view that Morrison’s statement about the inquiry was racist.
There is no proof of that, certainly you haven’t provided it.
You can claim context if you like, but you won’t because that would give me permission to also claim context about Gladys Liu
And Joyce the Irish

And on the subject of “ownership”, I have mentioned this before but the vehicle manufacturer marque MG (Morris Group) is no longer a British company nor owned by a British company it is owned by a Chinese company that manufactures and sells MG cars …
If you want to stop buying anything Chinese then stop buying their cars apart from being dodgy, (do they comply fully with ADRs, I wonder), the Chinese desperately want to get their struggling car manufacturing off the ground … don’t buy Chinese vehicles …

China has reached the stage that it has right now, because the Western democracies HELPED IT … but unlike Japan a true democracy, China is still controlled by a Communist dictatorship and all that dictatorships entail (check how they come about re Trumps efforts)
The Western powers grew China … and now it comes to devour us … historically Western “diplomacy” at its worst – it created another monster …
Well not quite … Australia is seen around the world as the USA’s “go to military” for “support” … so Oz has become the China’s – USA whipping boy …

They’re the serious issues bothering China, the others things are the side show
Pauline Hanson says she’s not going to buy anything made in China anymore.
Given that means Best & Less, Kmart, Big W and Target are all of the list, where’s she going to buy her natty wee outfits….?

I’m doing my but too! I’m not buying Chinese wine, or their barley. And I’m not sending my kids to a Chinese university!
Cop that commies!
Would you endorse repealing the foreign agents legislation?
It’s not the act itself, it’s the way the government loudly, and proudly, went after Chinese nationals specifically, and used racist terms while doing it. They cannot help themselves it seems
And/or allow Huawei to build the telecommunications network?
No, we shouldn’t. But, as I mentioned, back when Labor denied them access to the NBN, the libs said this was because ‘racism’ (even though it was made clear it was because of proven poor behaviour by Huawei ) So what reason may the Chinese think the libs are now denying them access? The libs had claimed it was racist to do so, it’s only fair to draw the line that that is the reason they are now doing precisely what they condemned Labor for. After all, Huawei have not had any major public breaches since that?
I’m doing my but too!
At least you’ve fixed your typos 😉

Calling Chinese agent of influence, Shanghai Sam, “Shanghai Sam” is not racist at all. Like Running Dog Dan, Andrew Robb , Bob Carr and so many other grifter politicians he is just another hack who sold out to the communist thugs oppressing the people of China and deserves to be vilified and mocked for it.
Please pay attention, Tom R! This dumb leftist twat (but I repeat myself) mocked a black woman by eating a banana – powerful statement, no? Actually no – this is racism pure and simple.
“Hang on, “
I get it, Tom R – you have very clear rules of analysis – ALP always right! Libtards always wrong! That much is simple.

No surprise that Running Dog Dan is giving the Victorian Ombudsman $2 million less this year:
“the recent State Budget allocation fell about $2 million short of the $21 million spent last year, which would mean it would likely need to run a deficit again to do the “core minimum”.”
That is exactly what you do when your dirty deeds are being exposed. The Ombudsman is an existential threat to the ALP way of doing business in Victoria:
The Ombudsman found that Labor misused $388,000 of public money during the party’s 2014 election campaign in the so-called red shirts rort.
The ombudsman’s office is currently investigating the treatment of public housing tower residents who were put under a hard lockdown during Melbourne’s second wave of coronavirus infections and complaints from small businesses who applied for State Government support payments during the pandemic.
It is also investigating the ALP branch-stacking scandal in Victorian Labor, focusing on whether public funds were used for party-political purposes.

Using dead bodies for political purposes is a low act. I am sure lots of people received debt notices in the past and did not commit suicide. And some did commit suicide. Saying it was due to a debt notice is hard to prove
Trouble is Labor supporters are full of hate. They want the deaths to be due to Coalition policy.
Fact is after 2016 debt notices were sent to 900,000 people over 2 years and 2,030 died. A normal death rate for a population that size.
Has the ABC ever published how many people died after govt made a policy change before?? Not to my knowledge. It was an ABC article stating 2,000 deaths occurred after 2016 that caused some outrage. That then morphed into those 2,000 deaths were due to Coalition policy. That then morphed into all 2,000 committed suicide. It is a normal death rate. Nothing sinister
Even hartcher can’t find the lipstick for this pig
The most immediate thing that Xi Jinping’s regime achieved this week was to establish what the Chinese Communist Party calls “discourse control” over Australia. It couldn’t have done it by itself.
When it published its inflammatory propaganda – the old Soviet communist party term “agitprop” best describes it, a combination of agitation and propaganda – it set a trap for Scott Morrison. He obligingly walked into it.
The Prime Minister’s strident personal response might have been genuine outrage, but it gave Beijing an easy win: We spent the week talking about it. On the party’s terms. Mostly it was a domestic Australian debate of self-examination and self-criticism.

TR, This whole saga has been handled very amateurishly from the Covid investigation push (a WHO responsibility) to the SAS issue, that should never have been released until after the court decision (what should have been courts’ martial) … and the Chief of Army should have not gone near a microphone …
But even Morrison’s response to China’s childish cartoon should have been one of adult to child not child to child* … ie we do respond to criminal accusations – we do have judicial systems to follow up and take action after in depth investigations … does China?

Those government propagandists are so witty!
I can’t think of a more appropriate description for their leader than – “hypocritical brutal dictator ” Which, while factual, isn’t as entertaining.
“hypocritical brutal dictator ”
Ours, or theirs?
I mean, this government has implemented policies that have allowed our farmers to brutalise Chinese citizens. And you’re always pointing at THEM.
Fix our own back yard before starting to think about fixing others
The farm owner, who has connections in China, employs only Chinese workers, many from poor areas who have been brought over on the promise of making big dollars in Australia.
“The master of the farm, he gets agents to go to mainland China to Hubei province and Fujian province, poor places in China,” Mr D said.
“Those workers have to pay the traffic agents or the farmer a large sum of money to come to Australia to be exploited like this.
“I know at least three people who paid 250,000 yuan to come to work in this farm. This is equivalent to $50,000 Australian.”
Many on the farm don’t know their rights, are scared of the outside world and are abused by the farm owner, who threatens them with deportation, he said.
Workers share steel containers that are eight square metres. They’re blistering hot in summer and freezing in winter.

Fucking Unions BOO!
The “fix your own backyard ” nonsense is hilarious!
I remember when the left was complaining that we were selective about the human rights abuses we’d discuss, putting our economic interests in front.
Now all we hear from the left is “think of the economy!”
It isn’t just the Chinese Government that’s full of hypocrites

A good write up about the pms ‘casual racism’ (you know, it could be this kind of shit that, over a long period of time, gets up the goat of Chinese governments, along with the outright racism)
Unfortunately, only in linkedin, that I have seen
As a proud Australian-born citizen with Chinese ancestry, I am not laughing. I do not feel “deeply appreciated”.
When the leader of my country endorses comments from a Federal Minister praising Chinese Australians for “the best prawn crackers”, I do not feel “part of the family”.
The heart of the issue is this: racism still very much exists in Australia.
By drawing a direct association with Chinese Australians (a diverse diaspora in its own right) and restaurant owners that serve “the best prawn crackers on the Peninsula”, you have belittled, mocked and put us in a box in one fell swoop.
Prime Minister, what you have just engaged in is in fact casual racism. Australia’s very own Human Rights Commission defines casual racism as “conduct involving negative stereotypes or prejudices about people on the basis of race, colour or ethnicity”.
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/open-letter-pm-chinese-australians-arent-just-prawn-cracker-yun/
I’ve written to Cadbury’s and asked them to change the name of any chocolate bar containing the term “White” to something more appropriate … “Snow” for instance, or “Creamy” …

This one was different however

Thanks for giving me a laugh TomR. Casual stupidity is on the rise these days. Tom R, this article deals with some of Triggs lies:
“Human Rights Commission president Gillian Triggs has admitted she misled parliament after her attempts to blame journalists for manufacturing quotes and citing her out of context were yesterday disproved by an audio recording.”

How is that different to any previous programs like Robodebt which was started by Shorten/ALP in 2011??

Apparently the illegal bit was the new way to determine income called income averaging rather than fortnightly statements.
Our Journalists are not very good in this country. Rather than to try and find out whose idea it was to bring in this method they just use the problems to throw mud on the Coalition. I suspect it was the next step in Labors Robodebt scheme started in 2011 and would have happened no matter who was in power.
Apparently the illegal bit was the new way to determine income called income averaging rather than fortnightly statements.
Apparently, you’re still (deliberately?) wrong
No. The illegal bit was income averaging to determine income introduced in 2016 instead of using fortnightly statements. There is nothing illegal about removing human oversight.
It’s repetitive and stupid talking to you nil
You keep getting bludgeoned with facts, and you immediately turn around and declare point blank that world certainly IS flat

It’s just one of the reasons I call you stupid.
Rowan McRae, the executive director of civil justice access at Victorian Legal Aid, said the case has “helped to clarify the unlawfulness of the robodebt system for hundreds of thousands of Australians in the same situation, who received or paid off a robodebt based only on averaging”.

TomR
Did you read my comment at 1.33PM?? Isn’t that what i said?? Income averaging to determine income was the illegal bit. Not removing human oversight or anything else.
It’s just one of the reasons I call you stupid.
What part about “SOLELY relying on income averaging” do you not understand?
What part about “SOLELY relying on income averaging” do you not understand?
Well there appears to be something you are trying to say that i don’t understand.
I agree with your 2 links. Using income averaging to determine income turned out to be illegal for some reason
Well there appears to be something you are trying to say that i don’t understand.
It think it’s SOLELY because you’re stupid
Humour me.
SOLELY relying on income averaging to determine income was the illegal bit. That is what i said. Income averaging to determine income was illegal and introduced in 2016
Right???
No, it was never SOLELY used.
It’s a word, SOLELY , it’s a very important word. Because it indicates that they SOLELY used that. That is, there was nothing else, like HUMAN OVERSIGHT
Bridget McKenzie declines to appear before sports rorts Senate inquiry
Wonder why? Does Sooty Morrison know?
I give up. That is what i said.
And human oversight is a different issue.
In 2016 Coalition introduced a new computer method to SOLELY determine income called income averaging. It turned out to be illegal, hence the lawsuit.
Removing human oversight may be a bad idea but it is not illegal
yep, you are a rolled gold idiot nil

Well one of us certainly is. What is the problem? I agree with your links.
In 2016 Coalition introduced a new system to determine income called income averaging. It was an illegal way of determining income. I have no idea why.
Before 2016 fortnightly statements were used to determine income. That is legal.
Blithely ignoring Our Lord’s Truth … thou shalt be smitten by the wrath of the Trilogy!

Like all ALP/Greens supporters you mislead and deceive people
And i have a third thing to add. You destroy the lives of people
This Federal Government is already a disappointment to many Australians … now realising they are prone to incompetence in many portfolios from PM down, gaffes, corruption and pocket lining of friends and colleagues, obfuscation, lying and bullying of welfare recipients, employees and manipulative bordering on dictatorial and awful diplomatic skills, China is seeing them as weak and ineffective and so do many other countries around the world ….
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/09/not-going-to-get-invited-climate-summit-hosts-unlikely-to-give-scott-morrison-a-speaking-slot
Despite the narrow blindness* of Sooty Morrison’s “government”, State Governmnets, businesses and citizens all see the benefits of cost effectiveness and climate change management in harnessing renewable energy … obsessed with the profit principle they cannot see that governing in a democracy means servicing the nation’s population needs NOT their own!
They speak of our childrens’ future – they will have none if the planet burns in front of them!

A nice little list of this mobs achievements. re your link
Scott Morrison is unlikely to win a last-minute speaking slot at a global leaders’ climate ambition summit as his government has failed to meet the demands set by the event organisers
Yet, he told parliament he was going to go there to “correct mistruths”. Turns out, even as he said this, he wasn’t going to be allowed to ‘correct’ anything
It’s just lie after lie after lie with this mob.
But, you can hardly blame the organisers. Last year, when it was on, he was in ‘merica, in the town they were, but was snubbing them with his playmate trump. Now, he’s trying to crawl back up their asses. Luckily, they aren’t having any of it.
It’s an embarrassment for Australia, but hey, we ‘all’ asked for it.

I think you can see why i have been banned on Twitter and The Guardian. I see some falsehood posted by a leftie makes me lose my temper. But this statement from your wiki Robodebt link made my blood boil
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robodebt_scheme#Pre-_2015
The origins of the Data Matching have been completely ignored by many people who are falsely attributing the unlawful RoboDebt system of the Scott Morrison government to a Labor Party idea in 2011. this false attribution has been led by Stuart Robert MP who has put the deceitful information in a press release on the Services Australia website[22]. Some have commented on the appropriateness of using a Government Service to publish partisan commentary.
Stuart Robert is correct and provides links for his statements. They are not deceitful but correct. This is the first time i have seen such a bad error on Wikipedia.
Data matching between the ATO and Centrelink was started by Labor in the early 1990’s when Grahame Richardson was Minister. In 2011 Labor computerised the process
I might have to learn how to post on Wikipedia so i can correct the error

If you’ve got nothing to hide, stop hiding stuff.
(If you’ve got nothing to hide, stop hiding stuff.
Too right!)
WHY ANDREW ROBB and whoever supported this (I’m looking at you Sooty!) should be charged with treason within the hour!

Odd: “But there’s no fish to catch. So what’s the real agenda?”
“I think you can see why i have been banned on Twitter and The Guardian. I see some falsehood posted by a leftie makes me lose my temper. But this statement from your wiki Robodebt link made my blood boil”
This seems to be a common ailment in these parts:
lol splats

Well the lefties get under my skin. That Robodebt section from Wikipedia that i posted was wrong and deceitful. Plus the ABC felt the need to publish how many people on Centrelink benefits died after 2016 when the Coalition made changes to Labors Robodebt scheme.
People assumed the deaths were due to those changes the Coalition made otherwise why did the ABC publish how many people who died??? It then morphed into they all committed suicide. Turns out it was just a normal/natural death rate and nothing sinister was going on
Turns out it was just a normal/natural death rate and nothing sinister was going on
You keep saying this, but continue to provide no proof
“A pill for sudden asshole syndrome?”
IED is what you get when oppositional defiant disorder is left untreated. In that case the best treatment was based on traditional medicine – a swift boot in the behind!
a swift boot in the behind!
Someone here needs that bad
Any ideas who nil?
You keep saying this, but continue to provide no proof
I am not the one making the allegation that 2,000 people died due to Robodebt. Turns out 900,000 people received notices and 2,000 died, a normal death rate..
This link gives aussie death rate of 6.6 deaths/1,000 people/year. So out of a population of 900,000 you would expect approx 6,000 deaths
https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/AUS/australia/death-rate
But the ABC should be ashamed of itself but the ABC has no shame. It published the number of deaths after 2016 knowing lefties would assume the deaths were due to govt policy
I am not the one making the allegation that 2,000 people died due to Robodebt.
That allegation was never made, just the fact that that number of people had died.
And, it has been pointed out, that the number used ignored older people (who weren’t sent robodebts), which that link definitely includes
Apples and oranges isn’t proof nil
fark I need a pair of steal caps write now
That allegation was never made, just the fact that that number of people had died.
The ABC article never said those 2,030 died due to Robodebt but it eventually morphed into that on social media. In fact it morphed into all 2,030 committed suicide
But why did the ABC publish the number of people who died after 2016?? Of course the ABC was implying those 2,000 died due to Robodebt.
Because some party made an illegal decision which caused harm to thousands, that’s why

No need to say all 2,000 committed suicide which is what is being said on social media. And life is trial and error. I suspect using income averaging to determine income was the next step in Labors Robodebt program
Our Journalists are hopeless in this country. Rather than ask why income averaging to determine income was introduced in 2016 which turned out to be illegal, the media is just playing politics with something which harmed people.
Journalists should be asking was income averaging the next step and whose idea was it
Turns out 900,000 people received notices and 2,000 died, a normal death rate..
For LIBERAL Robodebt V2.0?
(Only one? Look harder Russ. There are thousands of them in orbit.)
For LIBERAL Robodebt V2.0?
This appears to be the ABC article which started the urban myth that 2,000 people died due to Robodebt after 2016.
https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/2030-people-have-died-after-receiving-centrelink-robodebt-notice/10821272
But down the bottom which most people did not read it says those deaths were a natural death rate
The department sent more than 900,000 debt letters to individuals during the period 1 July 2016 to 31 October 2018. A total of 2030 of those individuals died during the same period, which represents 0.21 per cent.”
This was more than ten times lower than the overall death rate for all of the department’s customers during the same period, which was 3.64 per cent.”
It’s important to note here that the figures provided by the spokesperson include deaths of people who receive a pension payment, which by definition puts them in the older age bracket.
