Gladys Berejiklian: The Premier who wasn’t There

September 10, 2021

The NSW State Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced that she will “no longer be available” to answer any questions about case numbers, hospitalisations or deaths instead opting to address the public “intermittently” on what she has called an “as needs” basis. Or in other words, when she can be bothered.

The decision comes as New South Wales is expected to enter its peak period for Covid deaths and hospitalisations as the State prepares to ease restrictions despite clocking up a record breaking 1,542 new infections and nine deaths overnight and a 7-day average exceeding 1,400.

Defending her decision Ms Berejiklian said: “I will turn up when I need to but to expect the leader of the government indefinitely to do this every day means that I am not doing my job properly.” she said.

“In all honesty, I really can’t be fucked anymore,” she added.

I guess the internal polling showed that voters thought Gladys was a hopeless schmuck.

They use robodebt against the real criminals don’t they?

Data matching between the ATO and Centrelink started in the early 1990’s under Labor when Richardson was Minister

In 2011 Shorten computerized the process. Robodebt had started by LABOR

In 2016 Coalition introduced a new computer method to determine income called income averaging.

It turned out to be a disaster and was illegal for some reason

“The readiness of people to dob and snitch on their neighbors worries me a lot, frankly.”

From a former leader of the Party who zealously sent out fridge magnets to enable spurious neighbour dobbing.

I’m not in favour of lagging. Snitches got stitches where I lived at school, but there’s a picture of Pious Abbott…irrefutable evidence of his somewhat malleable tolerance for The Law.
Wouldn’t be difficult to find a cnutload of quotes of him berating ‘lawbreakers’.

The cast of the new movie looks great.

I suspect it will attract political backlash from plenty. But I’m excited as fuck.

I never read it as political at all. At that age, I didn’t even have the semblance of ideological thinking, just an overactive imagination.

I’m less politically aligned than I’ve ever been these days. I know what I like, I know what I loathe…and I can generally articulate why. Logic and reason for me please; neither should have a taint of alignment…almost impossible in practice.

    Strange times.

Glad I live as far as away from most of it as I do.

Not surprised at all to see another ‘power’ leaving Afghanistan with tail between the legs. They’ve been expelling imperialists for centuries. Mission Abolished.

Pity those who must live in a staunch theocracy though.

So lucky, we are, to live in a moderate, affluent, reasonably logical nation state.

Even better to be in a scarcely populated, geographically isolated, civilized part of said nation state.

I think mandating vaccination is overstepping the mark by a ruling tier.

I am fully Pfizer vaxxed, have been for a while.

I don’t like the idea of the state enforcing medical interventions, unless it’s making Jehovah parents give their kids blood transfusions, when required.

Having said that, if you’re ignorant or arrogant enough to ignore the evidence, advice and your fucking social conscience, fuck you…roll the dice, enjoy your long covid, dipshit. Where it gets fraught, is where the dumb cunts go around spreading it to the rest of the crowd.
Difficult to prevent without being absolutely draconian, which I’m not in favour of. Establishing precedents is problematic, when they can or may be wielded in a cavalcade of unintended ways.

This is an actual case of my body, my choice. The current vaccines have not been through the normal testing processes.

    Indeed.

I have a couple of direct blood relations with skin in the game now, one old and one just embarking into the stressed system.

It struggles under ‘normal’ health concerns, let alone (little lone…remember that fuckwit?) if a pandemic gets a firm hold of it.

No way any government could properly prepare. If they held hundreds of surplus hospital beds, they’d get flayed for wasting money.
If and when there aren’t enough, gonna get flogged for that.

Indeed; notionally, anyone who can crudely calculate vaxx rate(s) vis-a-vis (innate) delta repro rates knows the ‘safe(r)’ general(ised) number is >87% double-hoses-of-dope, for repro to be tending to <1, and therefore something akin to incipient herd immunity; yet c.20% of the population, presumably more or less depending on 'locale' and 'demographics', say they are 'vaccine hesitant' or straight-up vaxx resistant (and therefore subject(s) of/to Dictator Dan's (un)peculiar ire); hence, also, the very-scientific makey-uppy roadmaps, hopey-feely sales-pitches, and/or Dr Chant-ish pleas for 'equitable vaccination', and (close to) a general 90% vaxx rate to 'protect' the 'vulnerable' (which may or may not be anyone with an 'underlying condition', and/or, seemingly, anyone, and everyone, (still) lacking complete(d) vaccination, for one reason or another, including ongoing 'supply' and/or 'delivery' issues), before abruptly dropping comms going into that dark tunnel with, erm, the light at the end; or something like that.)

    That concerns me too.

Trying to put a positive spin on letting it cut through the population like a scythe, once an arbitrary threshold is attained (but, presumably, being a threshold of the entire eligible willing population of the nation, not necessarily a threshold which will have been reached in all subject regions across the country)…for the benefit of mayhap givving a glimpse of tunnel’s end light; or, most likely, bending for economic considerations.

A prudent, measured extraction is warranted, eventually. Hopefully, that is achieved without undue business influence.
One thing that’s very evident is that we need far less engineers on site to actually run well. I think the whole work from home junket has probably got HR razor gangs licking their lips. Glad I’m not staff. The productive have already been whittled down…now a few extraneous, arguably surplus to needs office underlings may be pruned.

I kinda agree with your comment Neil, but find it a bit hyperbolic.

At least we don’t live in The Land Of The More Easily Misled, where a conga line of DJT afficianados are playing pied pipers of the ignorant.
Certainly, we are lucky geographically, but the overall moderate mentality here makes the situation more manageable. Not so many damascene deathbed antivax conversions.

FWIW, I am quite pleased with the response of the generally moderate, ruling SA Liberal Party; although the nutcases in the fringes have tried their best to reinsert themselves and thwart good, popular social policy.

Bullying on Twitter has become unhinged. It’s time to call out the personal, sexist attacks

Let’s not duck the common thread here — it is overwhelmingly left-leaning Twitter users who are targeting ABC journalists for abuse. Of course, there are right-wing attacks too but the most ferocious campaigns are reserved for any journalist who questions, in even the most anodyne manner, the policies or public statements of Labor politicians, particularly the Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese, the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the West Australian Premier Mark McGowan.

That may depend a lot upon what you watch and whom you encounter each day Neil (seriously).
I work with majority conservative people, soft right at least. Only the confused, susceptible ones are antivaxx.
Plenty of kooky leftist are antivaxx also.

Look at polls of vaccine acceptance across the population…the majority is large, much more demonstrable than the political divide.

It was you, not me, who proclaimed that “people from one side of politics are all for the vaccine while people from the other side of politics are suspicious of the vaccine”…I realise it’s kinda semantics, but words are important.

I would contend that ‘sensible people, who aren’t tragically politically beholden, will steer towards good, substantiated advice from those who are recognised experts in their field; therefore, the benefits of vaccination are virtually incontestible. Thus, a majority of people, politics aside, recognise the public health benefits of vaccination’.

Not because I can’t see the benefits of integrating all of that information for quick access between medical professionals…but because I don’t think our government can keep such personal data secure, or avoid onselling it to private health insurers in the future.

For all his ridiculous diffusions, he’s easily and regularly debunked.

Why do you think he’s the new hood ornament on Clive’s Tardmobile?

Also, he’s spamming everyone, in the (probably realistic) hope of getting traction amongst a proudly misinformed subset of the electorate at large.

Bowden was an industrial wasteland in early 2000’s,

I remember it from the 80’s and early 90’s, a thriving Industrial center, and plenty of fun on the sides. The place looks like a yuppy goldmine now. Pretty sure my son will end up moving in there before too long 🙂

No surprises that my favourite tracks are Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills.

Still their best numbers, (although my ultimate fave is Hallowed be they name), but some on the new one have me mesmerized. But, like most of their later material, it takes some listening to get under the skin of it, it sounds bland to me at first sitting. Stratego and The Parchment are the standouts for me to date

But cancel culture has been abhorrently assimilated by both sides

Very much so. I prefer a more relaxed access to materials, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. Nazi sentiments at the top. I have no issue with the materials and history being told, but to try and pretend that the Nazis were anything but an abhorrent stain is beyond me, and anyone espousing that deserves their treatment.

Surely, as individuals we own our own lives? and the dignity of our own deaths, when warranted?

Yes. I had always been of the opinion people can do what they want, but after watching similar, I categorize anyone trying to stop people escaping a futile life of senseless pain with the Nazis mentioned above. What amazes me is these are most often those who believe in a ‘loving’ and ‘caring’ ‘dog’ who according to the fairy tale, is doing it all on purpose?

I believe the UK version was flawed and abandoned, then Australia did it anyway.

I also believe they got the same people in to do it 😦

I don’t think i could quote a single ALP leader saying anything bad about these vaccines

We have truly lost that capacity. We have at the same time lost the capacity to make our own decisions. We are now tied, mouth the arse, to the American War Machine.

In the end, the threat of Elder in the governor’s mansion galvanized Democrats. To put things in context, Elder, who is black, has argued for reparations for slave owners. Let that sink in.

On 18 July, on the Candace Owens Show, Elder opined: “Their legal property was taken away from them after the civil war, so you could make an argument that the people that are owed reparations are not only just Black people but also the people whose ‘property’ was taken away after the end of the civil war.”

Also, Elder separately confided his support for “appointing judges and regulators who respect the constitutional right to life”, and announced that “the ideal minimum wage is $0”. Not surprisingly, little more than a third of California’s voters held a favorable opinion of Elder.blockquote>

Apparently the ‘angry mob’ protesting the ‘baccine’ mandate were not in fact CFMEU members or construction workers, but a bunch of right-wing fascists that just happened to be in the area and conveniently disguised as ‘construction workers’ in high-vis gear and steel boots.

Really? Then why did John Setka not call them out?. He would recognise imposters in the ranks. Instead he just stood there and tried to appease them. I call bullshit on that talking point.

Elise Thomas, analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, said yesterday’s protest saw a lot of “opportunists” grafting onto the movement. However, she said it’s not accurate to label the majority of protesters as far-right.

“That speaks to a broader issue that we’re seeing at the moment where the label of far-right is used to describe other people they don’t like,” Ms Thomas said.

    More than dying from Covid?

Freedom don’t come free! (You have to work for it)

You do know that vaccination of the majority of people is akin to “herd immunity” that no anti vaxxers whinged about …

Herd immunity = high death rate …. vaccination = lower death rate – and not clogging up hospitals and creating stressed/tired staff …

I’m wondering when the shrine of remembrance became this hallowed, sacred place where ordinary citizens can’t gather unless they wear their official RSL merchandise Gallipoli beads and sing songs to dead soldiers from the ANZAC hymn book. It’s a public place adjacent the botanical gardens and St Kilda Rd ffs, and should (does) allow entry to all comers.

This pretend glorification and feigned outrage over a stone monument today for political purposes is quite ridiculous. Which is not to say I don’t acknowledge and respect what generations of Australians in uniform have done, including ancestors of mine, but this is a building. A symbol, perhaps, but just a building. Well I’m a member, and I can only speak for what I know, but most members are moderate and vaccinated. I can’t speak for the construction branch, but I seriously doubt that those in the streets (remembering all of the other cohorts of coopting anti dipshits) represent the majority. Pretty easy to throw on a hivis shirt.

But speaking for ‘Teh Members’ is something all kinds of groups are trying to portray right now; for obvious reasons.

I sincerely feel for all y’all in Melbourne. I have friends and friends over there too. Y’all been locxked down for longer and harder than most. Ican understand the backlash.

Dos anyone really want to see the health system buckle under irreversible strain? It’s not designed for pandemics, and if it was certain people would be clamouring against the public funding of empty hospital beds, let alone ICU etc.

  403. September 23, 2021 9:20 pm

“Hi, this is Bruno, your local CFMEU official, could you tell me whether you’re going to the protests that are calling for the dismissal of CFMEU officials?”

Except the list of demands also included lunatic shit like unlimited supply of Ivermectin (I grew up on a farm, care to argue about that one?…it’s antiparasitic, not anti-viral, for a start) amongst other, coincidentally, fringe shit from the dipshits who’ve just been itching to go out and wreck shit for the last 12 months at least.

There’s a bit more going on here than a CFMEU power struggle, and you’re certainly intelligent enough to recognise that YomM.

You exist in an alternative universe where a human being can exist without the presence of a brain

Where, anywhere, in any comment, have I drawn a line to not being vaccinated? It was in direct response to the fact about Union Members being called anti vaxxers, by nazi sympathizers like yourself, when the facts show, the Union sites, and therefore the Union workers, are quite clearly following health guidelines, and that the cases of covid, which has forced the closure of construction sites, are coming from building sites without the complete Union coverage.

But somehow, your vaccuous skull somehow seems to think that makes them anti vaxxers?

How did you come to that conclusion yomm? I mean really. How?

The only perhaps good thing he did was change Labors 93% FTTP-NBN thought up on a plane flight to a FTTN-NBN. Nothing wrong with FTTP. It is obviously the best but it requires and underground tube down every street and into every home. Very very time consuming. Half the country would still be on ADSL if no changes were made,

We all have a duty of care to each other … tho’ I don’t see it much in the DEEP SOUTH!

If you look at a map TB, you’ll notice that the spread of the virus is in the ALP heartland. Blame them

Not everything is political! This is a virus check you’re bum right now!

It’s drongoes who don’t follow elected government rules that should be your target …

Like the other Victorian wanker who removed the colour from his number plates!

Been years since that idiotic cliche was mocked out of common useage.

Unless used in mockery … you didn’t know that? Well, well, something else …

But, in senior moments, apparently that’s all that pops into the clouded fading mind of the afflicted.

Do you ever read the shite that you pop up here?

Ageism insults are always your last resort … you poor “young thing” you … 😂

OK. But then why didn’t Rudd place an order for some new submarines?? He had many years to place an order.

It was the next govt who was left to place an order. OK the order was a disaster. But better to try and fail than not to try at all.

“Look what’s going on in Australia right now. They’re enforcing, after a year-and-a-half, lockdowns by the military,” the Republican said.

This is a State Governor and the USofA record is (cue Wally) and why are Republican State Governors bagging Australia?

Have they not heard of AUKUS … ignorance run wild …

Australia does not want to be the 51st state! FFS!

    Everyone should do this:

1438 cases today! The one week lockdown has been a great success!
    * Longest lockdown in the world
    * The most cases
Meanwhile, NSW had lighter restrictions and is opening up more quickly.

1,438 new cases in Vic today, and 11,008 people currently with Covid.

Just as well we went into the “short, sharp, 7-day lockdown”,
because “we don’t want to be like Sydney”. Congratulations Dan, we officially are not like Sydney, we’re much, much worse.

Are there still any defenders of how the Andrews government handled this?

The fact is that most of the spread of the virus has been in north western suburbs, the ALP heartland. The government has failed to adequately communicate and police those areas
It has avoided the heavy handed policing that it applies in other parts of Melbourne, and to other demographics

When NSW had the initial outbreak they were prioritised for vaccination.
When the Victorian outbreak followed we got extra.
We’re about a week behind NSW in vaccination, and about 6 months behind in the willingness to open

NSW and Victoria have the outbreaks. They’ve been given the vaccination priority. I think that was a decision cleared by national cabinet.

Every eligible person who wants a vaccine appointment in Victoria can get one, and always could.

Nah; once the quarantine-shirking Commonwealth finally gets around to vaxxing all the 1As and 1Bs, let the (pre)mature Sydney 3-stage roadmap (un)safely rip everywhere (pretty much exactly as has been staged); and allow the silent(ed) majority of freedomistas all the enjoyments of the veritable picnic that is dying (at home) without ever having been vaxxed, or traced, or tested, or seeking or receiving appropriate medical care, other than a dutybound missive from Leyjonhjelm from atop his throne; I say.)

It’s gonna take some time to get back through all of that…I wasn’t as obdurate as I remembered myself to be, so the reading will be a pleasure, not a chore.

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
