Morgan Poll: Scott Morrison heading for election MASSACRE!

November 26, 2021
Not a happy camper.

THE MORRISON GOVERNMENT is heading for a devastating election defeat with a new Morgan poll showing Labor has a ten point lead over the Government on the election-deciding two-party preferred basis.

The news comes on the heels of a cavalcade of corruption allegations plaguing senior members of the LNP and a mounting reputation as a compulsive liar Morrison can’t seem to shirk.

This is the largest two-party preferred lead held by the ALP since the 2019 Federal Election and exceeds the the ALP’s lead during the height of the ‘2020 Bushfires Crisis’ (ALP 55%, LNP 45%).

Voting analysis by State shows the ALP leading on a two party preferred basis in all six States – even Queensland.

In a concerning sign for the Government the ALP’s biggest leads are in Victoria and NSW.

The ALP’s improvement in Victoria comes after large protests against the Andrews Government on a range of issues including new legislation on ‘extraordinary’ powers for the Premier to declare a pandemic, the Andrews’ Government enforcement of vaccine mandates and tough restrictions on Victorians who are choosing to remain unvaccinated against COVID-19.

    MASSACRE

Should we bringing out the gallows pole?

I find it difficult to believe how much morrison is falling apart. Ever since macron called him out for lying, he’s just unwound himself. After decades of ignoring everything that point to this behaviour, the media finally take notice when a French dude confirms it. Bizarre

Albo, in my opinion, vacillates, equivocates and is an all-round despicable human being to boot. He is certainly not PM material and that is a shame because he probably will be PM. Unfortunately, for all practical purposes, the cunt has to lose an election to be terminated under the current ALP rules.

Are there epidemiologists now advising the government that the unvaxed should remain in hard lockdown?

  21. Dianne permalink
    November 28, 2021 9:18 pm

Possibly. Medical professionals provide ‘opinions’ rather than ‘truths’ (even though their ‘advice’ should be respected because it falls under the scientific umbrella which is far superior to other sources.)

Nevertheless, in a ‘democracy’, it’s Ministers who must make the final decision AND bear responsibility for same.

In brief – Experts on tap but not on top.

  22. Tom of Melbourne permalink

Without direct and specific advice from epidemiologists, and with 90%+ of the population vaccinated (in Victoria and NSW), what possible reasons is there for the lockdown of the unvaxed?

I feel dirty, because I kinda agree with that. I’m all for getting as many people vaccinated as possible, but taking away their livelihoods, even their right to have a coffee, is a stretch imo

People should be convinced by science and common sense, But, with so much misinformation, much of it distributed by the government in the first place, it makes it difficult. So forcing is becoming the only option. This new variant is going to make everything that much more difficult.

I would not like to be the ones making decisions in this environment. No wonder slomo has outsourced it all to the states

    1. Dan has introduced legislation after the experience of the pandemic and the longest lockdown in the world
    2. Half that lockdown was due negligent oversight and administration of a state government program. The state government is facing 58 charges over that
    3. The oversight proposed by the state government is an advisory committee, without power, the is chosen by the state government
    4. The proposed endless lockdown of people who have chosen to remain unvaccinated looks like punishment rather than a public health initiative
    5. Easily accessible rights if appeal seem reasonable

You are not giving enough credit to the noble Stairman. Indeed, he is a world leader in anti-Covid measures. He has determined that Victorians are a hardy people and can tolerate longer lockdowns and harsher measures than all other Australians and most of the rest of the world. And, to ram his point home about the valiant Victorian citizenry, he is not averse to applying some completely irrational measures just to show they can take it. And just because he can.

Dan knows what Victorians want and is giving it to them good and hard. Just like he got it good and hard in the beatdown he copped at the Fox residence.

    “so was Jesus Christ!”

You should try worshiping Him as your lord and saviour – then you might have a clue. As it is you are speaking from your usual high perch of ignorance and prejudice. We do not know what Jesus thought about the ownership of the means of production. He was a “render unto Caesar ” type of guy, more interested in spiritual matters.

    “Note: Socialism IS NOT Communism”

As you well know (mainly because I’ve schooled you on this issue in the past), communism is a form of socialism, probably the most widespread variant of this disease.

    “Socialism without Capitalism is Communism
    Capitalism without Socialism is Fascism”

Socialism is, broadly, the social ownership of the means of production. Capitalism is the private ownership of the means of production. National socialism is the state control of the means of production by leaving them in private hands provided that the owners behave as instruments of the state.

In effect, China is moving from socialism to national socialism and is now a mix of the two.

All capitalist states provide some welfare to their citizens. In these countries, the debate is less about ownership of the means of production than about the extent of the welfare. Until recently, the conservative side favoured less welfare and less public expenditure. Now it is just a race to the bottom, so to speak. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    Quote #2:
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves (Matthew 21:12).

I was trying to work out why Stairman Dan wants Novak out of the Australian Open. Novak has already had Covid and thus has a degree of natural immunity. A deal could have been done but Dan needs to flex his nuts.

The real reason is that Novak has spoken out in defence of Peng Shuai who has been disappeared by Dan’s CCP besties for daring to complain about being raped by a government official. The Stairman, being a man of principle, cannot stand by and watch a fellow apparatchik suffer for the same offence as Dan. So bye bye Novak.

While ridicule can work with those having poor self concepts, not all anti vaxxers fall into that category. Indeed, the problem with many anti vaxxers is their massive over confidence in their own understandings and insights.

And for the record, the well-organised empire was ruled by a chap who took the title Caeser. As in “render unto Caeser what is Caeser’s.” How on earth does that help your case?

But when it comes to understanding why Victoria is such a deadly outlier, one particular side will not even entertain the possibility that state government decisions may have had some role.

Given the significance of the hotel quarantine fuck-up it would be nice to know who made the crucial decision to appoint Unified Security Group and why.

We will never know the answer to that question owing to the endemic corruption in Victoria and Mongrel Coate’s obstinate determination not to cross-examine the head of Unified Security to ask the pertinent questions and extract the relevant information.

To be clear, I find the discrimination of the unvaccinated cheap politics, and it’s being played by all sides.

I know the majority of vocal idiots makes the average punter want to hate them, often with good reason, but there are many people who are averse (I cringe at the word ‘hesitant’, it’s another political tool) that have some valid, some not so, reasoning’s, but then, not every decision we make makes sense. I don’t believe we should discriminate against them. We should try to persuade them with logic, or, let them go on their merry way. They are the ones most at risk after all.

And, the danger here is (probably not Vic), we have opened up before a suitable coverage was attained (according to the governments own analysis). Time will tell how fool hardy that was.

Vic opened up to early because of the number of already existing cases out there, the governments analysis was predicated on no cases in the wild.

While it’s a claim often made, fact is it’s the government that’s spending government money. Yes the dollars allocated once belonged to taxpayers (including big taxpayers such as BHP, big 4 Banks and other non-voting entities – as well as some citizens) but that ‘belonging’ was in the past.

    Government spends government money.

If in any doubt, check Section 81 of the Constitution (re Consolidated Revenue)

.. All revenues or moneys raised or received by the Executive Government of the Commonwealth shall form one Consolidated Revenue Fund, to be appropriated for the purposes of the Commonwealth

The Section 83 of same states:

No money shall be drawn from the Treasury of the Commonwealth except under appropriation made by law’

Crystal clear that, legally at least, governments spend government monies.

It’s only politicians (on all sides) who speak of spending ‘taxpayer’ dollars. Never ‘official’ Commonwealth publications.

Apparently it’s a type of security blanket for those punters who like to think that the money is still theirs lol.

As one of Hockey’s leaners , (being an effective non-taxpayer and a non net contributor to the public purse while proud of same) I am still a legitimate voting citizen.

Not well understood, that it’s CITIZENS who elect governments and their tax paying status is completely irrelevant. Even with the proposed voter ID, it was never suggested that they produce their tax return at the ballot box..

Everyone who visits/resides in Australia becomes a taxpayer. It’s as easy as buying a coffee or an ice-cream for example. Yes, even Rupert is probably therefore a taxpayer. As is the Russian Ambassador, backpackers, children, Macron, Putin, Merkel, etc etc.

In a sense, taxpaying results from legal obligations. It doesn’t bestow ‘rights’ (including voting rights) as Citizenship does.

That’s not my view. My wife is an ‘effective non-taxpayer’, but her efforts, while not financial, add far more to the overall productivity and health of our society than hockey ever has, or will. It’s about a lot more than just money.

And, as you mention, everyone pays tax, thanks howard and the abusive gst

But, as a citizen (and as such, then a TAXPAYER 😉 ), I care very much if they are wasting OUR money

  173. Dianne permalink
    December 8, 2021 1:51 pm

    Re – wasting OUR money

Because it’s Citizens (and not taxpayers as such) who elect governments, then it can be reasonably seen as OUR money if we are talking about Citizens (whose tax status is irrelevant when it comes to voting). . Citizens can be seen as ’employers’ of government because they elect same – albeit not often nor directly enough.

Personally, we don’t get an age/disability etc pension BUT we do benefit significantly from what economists sometimes call tax expenditures. We get benefits via dividend imputations (via super AND other investments), we don’t pay tax on super income etc etc.

Again, we are ‘leaners’ and proud of that. After all it’s Citizens who own this Nation and not corporations whether they be local or foreign. Don’t like it? Then go elsewhere.

Thus we are an effective drain on the public purse and not effective (net) taxpayers. (Hockey was right in that sense.). As Citizens we rely on big taxpayers like BHP, Banks, Miners etc (all non-citizens and therefore non-voters) to be net, effective taxpayers to pay, and meet their legal obligations – as imposed by Citizens via their government.

It should be mentioned that the Commonwealth was debt free twice in the lifetimes of most Australians. In 1972 and in 2007 thanks to the Coalition we were debt free.

Both times Labor was then elected and trashed the budget. Whitlam/ALP was handed zero govt debt in 1972. Whitlam then trashed the budget and govt debt kept increasing until 1996. Howard/Costello in an amazing achievement not only reduced govt debt, they took it to zero by 2007.

Then Rudd/ALP was elected, trashed the budget and who knows how long govt debt will keep increasing. When Whitlam trashed the budget debt increased for 25 years.

If you judge governments by what they do, Australian governments for the last decade gave preferred to have more debt. Despite what they say, the act like proponents of Modern Monetary Theory

    MMT economists make several claims:

Firstly, they say we’ve been thinking about budget deficits incorrectly.

They say budget deficits are not always bad. In fact, deficits are often necessary and beneficial. A budget deficit is merely evidence of extra government spending, and government spending boosts the wealth of private sector businesses and households.

In the case of businesses lower debt is not always preferable to higher debt. The right balance depends on an analysis the cost of capital. Quite often, companies borrow and at the same time return capital to shareholders if they believe that outcome will produce a lower overall cost of capital.

We developed an endophenotype disease module-based methodology for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) drug repurposing and identified sildenafil as a potential disease risk modifier. Based on retrospective case–control pharmacoepidemiologic analyses of insurance claims data for 7.23 million individuals, we found that sildenafil usage was significantly associated with a 69% reduced risk of AD (hazard ratio 0.31, 95% confidence interval 0.25–0.39, P < 1.0 × 10–8).

For those of us not accustomed to using the generic name at the pharmacy (for privacy purposes), sildenafil is more commonly known as Viagara. Thus we now have access to a relatively safe dual purpose drug which should make our senior years more enjoyable and, indeed, more memorable.

The soft bigotry of low expectations:

Brown, Oregon’s Democratic governor, had quietly signed Senate Bill 744 into law last month, discarding the requirement that high school graduates be able to demonstrate an ability to read, write, and do math at a high school level. A spokesman for Brown explained that this would benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.” For those confused about the logic, he added that the state needed “equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and supports.”

    Soft Bigotry, or ignorance?

Oregon DID NOT remove the need to demonstrate the ability to read, write, and do math. They removed the requirement to pass the state’s tests in these areas to prove it. Students demonstrate these abilities every day in our schools in English classes, math classes, and other course work. This simply removes a poorly thought out requirement to pass single point in time tests of roughly 50 questions each as a graduation requirement, removing an unnecessary barrier for our students.

Re school achievement standards here in Australia and elsewhere, across time. As always, some are in decline while some are on the rise.

Of course it depends on what standards one is talking about.

At least three categories are possible. First we have needs based standards. Once, students and adults needed to do arithmetic calculations in their head. Employees (some) needed to write in ‘copper plate’. Many needed to shoe horses and pick up their shit on a shovel. The standard (relatively speaking) was quite high. Now it’s in decline. The need has changed.

Way back in the 1820s, Charles Babbage conceptualized the computer. But the vast majority had no idea what he was even talking about and the standard of student achievement was therefore very low. But no-one cared because there was no need .

While one could go on and refer to norm referenced standards and criterion referenced standards, perhaps it might be better to return to Oregon and look a little deeper there.

Firstly, the (bisexual) Mayor is a Democrat and one might note that Democrats (generally) have deep political roots in most (but not all) minority communities. So that might explain why such groups received a mention in the ‘presser’. Good politicians never forget their base.

Second, over the years credentialism has reached plague proportions. If you don’t have a credential then you are likely not to make it beyond the first cut in the job selection process. Again look at the US Democrat demographic.

I see the “Voices for…” movement has a candidate in my seat, Kooyong.
It’s interesting that Voices for… only stand in Liberal/National seats, Nd they might as well be called the “Voices for… (AMA & Greens sub branch)”
The candidate in Kooyong seems quite reluctant to have much to say about her personal orientation and affiliations, which I think is a problem for an independent. If a candidate is standing on a party platform, you know what you’re getting.
The prominent Voices for Kooyong independent seems to think it’s enough to say-
    * I’m a doctor! So trust me

Really? Or is it the case you know what they’re promising ?

Remember “No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”

Then there was the promise of a Federal ICAC (or equivalent) this time around.

Sorry but “political party platforms are like railway platforms. There to get in from and not to remain on.”

And the “Voices” group tend to be Liberal Lite as evidenced by their voting records.

Nevertheless, with their access to big dollars it might be just enough in some electorates.

Perhaps the “Voices” will promise to keep money out of politics ?

    But probably not.

Certainly not in favor of tax cuts because low taxes translates to low levels of government services. Unless of course one is talking about ‘war toys’ and for those there’s never enough.

As for ‘Liberals’ and a philosophy behind them. Yes there is a set of philosophical principles behind liberalism but to suggest that those who currently travel under that banner have any appreciation or adherences to those liberal attitudes, values and the like is more than a stretch. Locke, Mill, Dewey, Rawls et al would be ashamed.

To some extent, all elections should be about trust and not only in government but other societal institutions as well including the media. Sadly that’s evaporated.

Democracy here and elsewhere across the world looks like a failed experiment as Plato predicted.

I think there remains plenty of efficiency to be extracted from government services. There are entire departments that only exist to cover the backside of politicians, this occurs at each tier of government.

In a ‘democracy’, governments (at all levels) must be held accountable to the citizenry who elect them. Accordingly, government activity, ideally, should be transparent, including the creation of audit trails, records and the like that endure over time. Thus, there’s always a trade-off with ‘efficiency’ having to be reduced.

No doubt that’s one of the many downsides of a ‘democracy’.

Splatterbottom, can’t comment on FOI arrangements in the USA because I lack any knowledge. But perhaps a few points might be in order, albeit at a high level of generality re historical developments re FOI in Australia.

Oppositions (regardless of where they sit on the ideological divide) recognised that making FOI requests was a worthwhile ‘fishing expedition’. And at a number of levels.

First, they cast their application as broad as possible. In so doing, they received a predictable response along the lines – Could you narrow the focus?

You see every Department, Agency, etc (government and non-government), as well as all individuals mentioned in the documents has to be consulted to see if they have any objections to their release. Many do, arguing that their view(s) were given in confidence and not for public consumption. And so on.

The FOI Officer has to make a decision which then can be appealed to an FOI Commissioner. And so it goes. On and on. Back and forth. (Only in government never in the private sector.)

These ‘delays’ then become grist for the mill in terms of media releases. Indeed the ‘delay’ often becomes the story. What is the government hiding? etc (A media headline that’s simply ‘Too easy’.)

As I recall, every State in Australia as well as the Commonwealth modified its FOI legislation. Even then, many Ministers, both State and Federal, refused to authorise releases.

Today FOI is still problematic in Australia. Are Cabinet Documents confidential? What about National Cabinet submissions and decisions? Morrisson argues that they should be off limits.

One could go on and on. It’s a never ending nightmare for Government and a perfect platform for Opposition whenever they want to make mischief. The concept of FOI is legitimate but the implementation leaves much to be desired.

Not surprised that the FOI request and subsequent legal action is taking place in Texas. A State where a citizen can be rewarded up to $10 000 for ‘dobbing in’ someone who aborts.

Conventions are being abandoned. Democracy is in trouble.

Or perhaps you have misconstrued the sentiments? The point being that, even though the media and their Liberal party lackeys have been claiming (and still do) that Labor are the party of BIG TAXES,this is demonstratively false. The evidence shows that Labor are the party of SMART taxes (and fairer ones)

Normally, I’m supportive of larger taxes. But not when the grubmint is illegally giving it to their own mates who don’t need it, and definitely don’t deserve it.

Oppositions (regardless of where they sit on the ideological divide) recognised that making FOI requests was a worthwhile ‘fishing expedition’. And at a number of levels.

Good – more power to them. Do you prefer a system without oppositions or perhaps a system where oppositions are toothless to extract information? What on earth is wrong with anyone (including oppositions) trying to hold governments to account by forcing the disclosure of information that the government would prefer remain hidden?

“First, they cast their application as broad as possible. In so doing, they received a predictable response along the lines – Could you narrow the focus?”

And this is wrong because…..? If the application is not drafted broadly the scope for the government hiding documents is expanded.

“You see every Department, Agency, etc (government and non-government), as well as all individuals mentioned in the documents has to be consulted to see if they have any objections to their release. Many do, arguing that their view(s) were given in confidence and not for public consumption. And so on.”

Fuck the bullshit excuses. If the documents are part of the process of government then the people have a right to know.

“One could go on and on. It’s a never ending nightmare for Government and a perfect platform for Opposition whenever they want to make mischief. The concept of FOI is legitimate but the implementation leaves much to be desired.”

It is only a nightmare for governments which try to conceal their actions from the governed – which is all of them.

We will have much better government if the government understands that citizens have a right to see how the sausage is made.

Sb – perhaps you need to read a bit wider before posting.

“The event has not been cancelled,” spokesman Ryan Bird told Fox. “Earlier this month, an opinion that did not reflect the position of the Toronto District School Board was shared with the organizer of a book club prior to staff having an opportunity to read the book – something that is routinely done before giving them to students.

Staff currently reading the book and anticipate being able to add it to the list of titles used in the corresponding course(s) very shortly. We have apologized to Ms. Murad for this error and believe she has a powerful story to share with our students.”

As for ‘leftist mongrels’. And on the Toronto District School Board. Hilarious.

“perhaps you need to read a bit wider before posting.”

Hilarious comment. You do know that the Board acts through its administrators?

Obviously you followed the link in my original comment on this topic. I was well aware that the Board backtracked after the decision became public. The backdown does nothing to rehabilitate the Board’s reputation. Rather, it shows the Board is embarrassed at becoming an object of international scorn.

In fact, the Board’s administrator, Helen Fisher (Superintendent of Education), told the organiser of the event that the Board’s equity department had decided not to support Nadia Murad’s talk. When shown material regarding the nature if ISIS the hideous Fisher doubled down and sent the organiser a copy of the board’s policy on selecting equitable, culturally relevant, and responsive reading materials.

Mongrel Fisher also told the book club organiser that the Board would not be supporting a talk by Marie Henein, the daughter of Egyptian immigrants and one of Canada’s most prominent lawyers. This on the basis that Henein had, five years ago, defended an innocent man.

The Board’s spokesperson did not explain how it is that its Superintendent of Education and equity department felt empowered to act as they did. Nor did he explain what disciplinary action would be be taken against them for the breach of procedure which resulted in the destruction of the credibility of the Board.

So yes, the Board did back down. Marie Henein had them dead to rights when she said: “There are words for this. Misunderstanding is not one of them,”

Go on say something, you'll feel better...
