EXCLUSIVE: What’s wrong with this Picture – George Christensen’s Wedding Shock Disgrace!

January 20, 2022

A LOT OF PEOPLE have been ridiculing this photo of George Christensen’s wedding on social media, which seems a bit uncharitable if you ask me, with one individual who shall remain nameless (yes it was you @killmebilly ) suggesting it’s like one of those “how many things can you find wrong with this picture?” cartoons.

Now I certainly wouldn’t want to encourage that sort of thing (heaven forbid), but it did get me thinking – what can you see that others might overlook…??

So Dan put Victoria into extended lockdown which caused some perturbation among the locals. But based on crowd behavior at the tennis last night, it ended way, way too soon.

    How embarrassing.

Note also re Novak – “An iconic world tennis star may influence people of all ages, young or old, but perhaps especially the young and the impressionable, to emulate him,” the court said.

“This is not fanciful; it does not need evidence. It is the recognition of human behaviour from a modest familiarity with human experience.”

A Court that “does not need evidence”. Dear oh dear. Then again perhaps members of the court attend the tennis.

The case was brought by Djokovic, therefore the onus of proof is with him.

Who votes these lunatics into parliament? 😮

Pauline Hanson says her party will campaign on a platform of demanding a royal commission into Australia’s Covid-19 response at the upcoming federal election.

Speaking at an online Christian anti-vaccine mandate event on Friday, the One Nation leader claimed Australians had been “lied to” about the number of people who had died during the pandemic.

The third live “Prayers and Pushback” event featured a who’s who line-up of conservative commentators and anti-vaccine mandate politicians including Senator Hanson, ex-Liberal MP turned United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly and rogue Nationals MP George Christensen.

The event was hosted by disgraced former Hillsong pastor and self-styled “millionaire coach” Pat Mesiti, who addressed his audience from the Gold Coast in front of a digital Australian flag backdrop.

Senator Hanson, who has been an outspoken critic of vaccine mandates throughout the pandemic, revealed to Mr Mesiti some of her plans for the election.

“I’m going to stand on a platform that I believe that we need a royal commission into Covid and the way it was handled, because if we have another pandemic we have to know the answers to this,” she said.

My bold — speaking at a wot?????

Gerrymandering is a bi-partisan sport in the US. The link lists some of the worst cases:

“Maryland is the shamefaced owner of the single worst gerrymander in the nation. …..
The district has been characterized by a federal judge as a “broken-winged pterodactyl lying prostrate across the state” …. And the narrow nature of most of the district — constructed to favor Democrats — makes it difficult for residents to know whether they are physically in the district or not.”

    And, meanwhile in Houston:

“The 2nd District, held since the start of the year by Dan Crenshaw, is the result of extreme Republican gerrymandering in Texas. If the district were less oddly shaped and contorted it would actually be quite difficult for a Republican to win in this area.”

  69. January 24, 2022 2:25 pm

Gerrymanding in QLD has a long history.

“From 1910 to 1949, Queensland had a “one person, one vote, one value” electoral system, with a maximum variation of 30% from the Statewide average quota. But in 1949 the Labor Party conducted a revision which varied the number of voters in each electorate according to their size and distance from Brisbane

… difficulties in transport and communication were given as the reasons to reduce the size of remote and thinly-populated electorates, the effect was to give a huge advantage to the Labor Party, which at that time drew its voting strength from rural areas, a consequence of the party’s formation in the outback Queensland town of Barcaldine

… boundaries were drawn to take advantage of the ALP’s rural supporters (farm workers, miners etc.) the rural-based Country Party was able to take the most advantage from Labor’s infighting.”

Labor, under Goss, had the opportunity to ‘fix’ it but, sadly, he squibbed.

The newly elected Country Party MP for Nanango, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, spoke out against the redistribution, saying that it meant that “the majority will be ruled by the minority” and that the Labor government was telling the people “whether you like it or not, we will be the Government”.

The fact is Labor started the gerrymander in 1949. Then later it started to favor the Nationals.
But it did not favor the Coalition very often. It favored the Nationals over the Liberals. So the Libs got more votes but the Nationals got more seats.

But the worst gerrymander was in the 2014 South Australia State election. The Liberals got 53% of the vote and lost. Normally 53% is a landslide victory. Labor won with 47% of the vote.

Don’t know that anyone argues that BUT we know that in Australia (and in many other developed nations) it’s government that creates and issues its own currency. We also know that governments require taxes (and other charges) to be paid using that particular currency, so it can be argued that government spending is necessary for the whole system to work.

Clearly Biden (and the Democrats) is/are keen to hold on to that demographic. Probably why he’s signaled his intention early with the mid-terms entering the stage.

For politicians, ‘competence’ and a wide variety of other concepts is invariably viewed through a vote-winning lens.

Sure is. Particularly when one government agency ‘invests’ (buys bonds) issued by another. Doesn’t have to go down that path but ‘chooses’ to. Just ask Costello.

As pointed out above, government can (and do) create their own ‘fiat’ currency. (And yes that can be a problem.)

Governments rightly invest in their citizens for example. Sometimes it’s via ‘education’. Sometimes it’s via ‘health’. Sometimes it’s in physical infrastructure.

Human capital includes assets like education, training, intelligence, skills, health, and other things employers value such as loyalty and punctuality. … Human capital is perceived to increase productivity and thus profitability”

It’s Keynesian economics on steroids and without regard for the future.
Adherents think spending is limited by risk of inflation, that you don’t bother to express debt as a percentage of GDP.
They don’t know whether there will be an adverse effect if debt reaches (say) 300%-500% of GDP.
They often advocate following the example set by Japan.

“Look up, “The Creature From Jekyll Island””

I did. You and the author have a lot in common, TB, as I’ve highlighted below:

    G. Edward Griffin (born November 7, 1931) is an American author, filmmaker, and conspiracy theorist. Griffin’s writings promote a number of right-wing views and conspiracy theories regarding various of his political, defense and health care interests. In his book World Without Cancer, he argued in favor of a pseudo-scientific theory that asserted cancer to be a nutritional deficiency curable by consuming amygdalin. He is the author of The Creature from Jekyll Island (1994), which advances debunked conspiracy theories about the Federal Reserve System. He is an HIV/AIDS denialist, supports the 9/11 Truth movement, and supports a specific John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theory. He also believes that the Biblical Noah’s Ark is located at the Durupınar site in Turkey

But you didn’t understand the basis of The Creature from Jekyll Island … ’cause ya didn’t read it … if ya think I’m like the author then you’re comprehension level is Kneel*.

Too busy playing the man and dropping ya balls.

FYI (and other’s) … the “Creature” is the US Federal Reserve System – another bank created by bankers to protect bank(er)s … just like Australia’s RBA …

The central banks around the world … including the World Bank and IMF … are run by bankers for bankers – I dealt with a World Bank rep in PNG – I worked for Elcom at the time – not a big loan, for them, about AUD$14m … so many strings and dodgy contract clauses we knocked it back almost immediately.

BTW … Jekyll Island Resort – owned by JP Morgan was the place that the bankers met to discuss the central bank.

He also believes that the Biblical Noah’s Ark is located at the Durupınar site in Turkey

LOL! Bloody oath that’s what I believe! 😎

Economic theories are many and varied. Certainly number in double digits.

    https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/economic-theory-types

But as many point out the theory employed at any moment in time is essentially ‘political’. Indeed it might be argued that politics and economics should never be separated.(Thanks Ted Wheelwright.)

Of recent times, Morrison et al adopted strategies that have much in common with the MMT rationale. Business was in trouble so MMT became the metaphorical ‘port in a storm’. (Of course, it didn’t get recognised by name but had many of the hallmarks.)

    MMT
    * Government spending restrained only by inflation
    * No analysis of whether a public debt to GDP of (say) 500% is economically problematic
    * Limited analysis of whether high public debt limits the policy options of future generations, or their ability to respond to their own crises
    * Live for today, and keep spending
    * What could possibly go wrong

There are two major differences between Australian govt debt and USA and Japanese govt debt.

Firstly Japan and the USA has vast overseas assets which they can liquidate to cover their foreign debt. With Japan think of Toyota, Sanyo, Honda, Nissan, Fujitsu etc. The list goes on and on. Same for the USA

Secondly most Japanese and USA govt debt is owned by locals. In contrast when Australia deficits spends we have to borrow from foreigners to fund our deficit budgets. Japan and the USA can fund the majority of their govt debt from their own citizens

You cannot compare Australian govt debt with Japan or USA govt debt for those 2 reasons.

  179. January 30, 2022 11:13 pm

So Neil, the Japanese govt can rely on the assets of “Toyota, Sanyo, Honda, Nissan, Fujitsu etc.”

Using that insane logic the Australian government can rely on BHP, the big 4 Banks, etc, etc.

As for the US debt being owned by locals. that will come as major surprise to the UK, Japan, China etc

US debt like Australian debt is payable using a ‘fiat’ currency. And they can’t run out of that.

  180. January 30, 2022 11:19 pm

Further – “deficits spends we have to borrow from foreigners to fund our deficit budgets”

Wrong! There’s always the RBA. Do try to keep up.

“Following a series of policy decisions taken by the Reserve Bank Board since March 2020, the Reserve Bank purchases Australian Government Securities (AGS) and semi-government securities (semis) as part of a bond purchase program to lower longer-term yields and, if required, to address market dislocations.”

I am talking about the vast overseas assets countries like Japan and the USA have. We have nothing compared to them.

As for the US debt being owned by locals. that will come as major surprise to the UK, Japan, China etc

I believe 70% of USA govt debt is owned by locals. 30% is owned by China, Japan etc. Furthermore the USA has vast overseas assets that can cover the 30% of foreign debt they have. Japan is the same. Their govt debt is large but it is owned by Japanese pension funds Super funds or whatever types of funds they have in Japan where people put their money.

In contrast 70% of our govt debt is foreign and we have few overseas assets to cover that foreign debt.

    “Too busy playing the man”

The ball, in this case, was “The Creature From Jekyll Island”. You suggested we look it up. I did. I then pointed out that it is full of debunked conspiracy theories and written by a nutter who spent a lifetime promoting right-wing conspiracy theories.

I do grant you that the nutter at least understands socialism:

“How can the Bank’s managers continue in conscience to fund such genocidal regimes? ……. The greater part of the answer, however, is that all socialist regimes have the potential for genocide, and the Bank is committed to socialism. The brutalities of these countries are all in a days work for serious socialists who view them as merely unfortunate necessities for the building of their utopia. Lenin said you cannot make an omelet without cracking a few eggs. George Bernard Shaw, one of the early leaders of the Fabian Socialist movement, expressed it this way:

Under Socialism, you would not be allowed to be poor. You would be forcibly fed, clothed, lodged, taught, and employed whether you liked it or not. If it were discovered that you had not character and industry enough to be worth all this trouble, you might possibly be executed in a kindly manner; but whilst you were permitted to live, you would have to live well.

If you wanted to make an intelligent critique of the Fed you could have done so in your own words or at least referred us to one or more of the critiques of the Fed made by sane people and not full of “debunked conspiracy theories”.

I think the economic experts most probably think govt debt is not a problem. Howard just after winning the 1996 election got blasted by the experts for spending cuts to get the budget back into surplus.

  192. January 31, 2022 4:18 pm

Dear oh dear, there seems little understanding of the need to ‘invest’. During the mining boom, BHP. for example, ran large and repeated “budget deficits”. That is, BHP spent far more than it earned. And shareholders reaped billions in dividends and watched their share price grow. Win, win for all involved. Today, BHP remains the biggest ‘taxpayer’ in Australia while still with considerable debt.

But I suppose some enjoy wallowing in ignorance.

One of the real scandals we face in Australia is the massive underutilization of labour power (including intellectual capital) when there’s so many opportunities (and needs) to be met..

So, come out from under the metaphorical doona, look around, borrow to invest and create a better reality. Stop selling off our assets and instead borrow, borrow to invest so that our children inherit a much richer Australia.

Neil – yes sometimes some investments, even with the best of intentions, are “bottomless pits”. But we live in a society where even evident “bottomless pits” are afforded opportunity.
