Election Night Bingo!

May 6, 2022

IT’S BACK…!!!

Just when you thought it was safe to return to the Bingo halls of Brighton or the Rooty Hill RSL, The Gutter Trash presents our infamous Election Night Bingo Drinking Game.

Here’s how it works…

Simply print out the Election Night bingo card above and then mark off the catch phrases as they are uttered by the irrepressible Antony Green at the ABC tally room, or one of suckhole guests on the panel.

A “responsible drinking guide” is suggested at the top of the table for those who want to make an occasion out of it.

Enjoy!

Let’s have no more ‘gotchas’ and instead focus on some serious policy issues.

The Coalition is guaranteeing essential services and lower tax. We can’t have both …

    So says Keating M.
    https://johnmenadue.com/essential-services-lower-tax-cant-have-both/

Realistically, sound management requires the incoming government to balance the budget, if not straight away, then at least by 2023-24 …

The government is also guaranteeing essential services, but many are hugely underfunded, examples include:

the promise to fully implement the recommendations of the aged care and disability services royal commissions
tertiary education, which will be funded less in 2024-25 than it was pre-pandemic in 2018-19
health funding – abstracting from the impact of the pandemic, the rate of increase in health funding is projected to be less than half the increase pre-pandemic
defence, diplomacy, and foreign aid spending which will be needed to plug a massive capability gap over the next twenty years or so years

Suspect it doesn’t sell papers or win elections. No wonder ‘democracy’ is in decline. (And across the world.)

    Troubling observation.

My daughter is 3rd year medical school and recognises half of y’all, from reading over my shoulder in ‘impressionable’ years.

I love that she’s been exposed to diverse points of view.

I like to think that my attempts at teaching critical thinking were formative, but I think she’s learnt some nuance from the vaguely substantiated (as opposed to completely emotive and unsubstatiated, internet tripe) and generally well articulated musings of those here.

Her favourite gravatar has always been the magnified sphincter…probably because the only pictures I’ve ever had as profile pictures on various social media, belong to pet digestive exits.

Canada has a new approach to dealing with poverty – euthanise the poor!

There is an endlessly repeated witticism by the poet Anatole France that ‘the law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.’ What France certainly did not foresee is that an entire country – and an ostentatiously progressive one at that – has decided to take his sarcasm at face value and to its natural conclusion.

Since last year, Canadian law, in all its majesty, has allowed both the rich as well as the poor to kill themselves if they are too poor to continue living with dignity. In fact, the ever-generous Canadian state will even pay for their deaths. What it will not do is spend money to allow them to live instead of killing themselves.

Snotty The Liar! Or Snotty in bed with Xi Ping?

    Darwin Port Fiasco

The Prime Minister has maintained the port deal was the sole responsibility of the CLP government and that there was nothing he could have done to prevent it.

“The federal government had absolutely no authority over that sale whatsoever,” Mr Morrison said during last weekend’s leaders’ debate.

Section 122 of the Constitution allows the Parliament to override a territory law at any time. The Federal Parliament has only used its power under section 122 a few times and only in cases where the territory law has created much debate or controversy within the Australian community.

While he was Minister for Trade and Investment, Robb approved Chinese company Shandong Landbridge Group to lease Port Darwin for 99 years.

Andrew Robb was enjoying his $880,000 a year consulting contract with Landbridge,

Yes NATO is more untied than ever. And the US arms dealers are higher than ever. But all is not well. Not that will stop the celebratory nonsense.

Some speak (approvingly) of Russian deaths but the lives destroyed in Ukraine are not mentioned. Why would that be? Or are there none? Perhaps a sub-conscious bias?

Here’s a perspective (and not from Australia).

Ukraine will never be the same – and

The global order that Australian politicians love to extol is fractured and unravelling. …

Evidence indicates that pouring funds into Ukraine’s reconstruction could feed an already corrupt elite. In 2021 the European Court of Auditors (pdf) identified “the abuse of high-level power that benefits the few, and causes serious and widespread harm to individuals and society”, or “grand corruption”, in Ukraine. Ukraine was regarded as having a transitional or hybrid regime in 2021 by Freedom House, and “a judiciary that worked to undermine the basic government principle of checks and balances” and frustrating anti-corruption initiatives.

The militarisation of the population and the radicalisation that generally accompanies war will test EU unity and values when it comes to Ukraine. In 2020, Freedom House noted that “in recent years the country’s significant democratic gains have been paralleled by a dramatic increase in the activity of far-right groups”, and reported “they now represent a sophisticated and politically influential element of society”.

So Labor – “is potentially going into government with no capacity to raise taxes — even on corporations — without some very shifty manoeuvres, limited capacity for decarbonisation, and no position from which to launch a more joined-up “green new deal” and substantial social-democratic renewal” (Rundle in Crikey.)

    Ain’t that the truth!

Albo’s obvious election strategy was to stand back and allow Morrison to overreach (as is his wont) and thereby lose. And that seems to be the result.

So how does Labor actually achieve anything in the next few years? First, it’s likely to ‘look at the books’ and declare an unmitigated disaster. An unprecedented ‘crisis’. Heard it all before? That “the cupboard is bare”. But this time it just might be believed. Just cite the Morrison government.

This will provide an opportunity to commission a number of Reports/Audits/Inquiries or whatever. Importantly, there will be a need to include any number of Liberals (ex or current), particularly those who have ‘hate in their hearts’ (and they will be in plague proportions after the loss). Have an Inquiry to AATs appointments as an opener.

Have them ‘over-recommend’ so Albo can pick and choose what is politically possible. And importantly can claim he didn’t have much of an agenda going in but it was forced upon him by the circumstances and the arguments generated by these expert (non-political) groups.

Otherwise it will be a vanilla administration. A lost opportunity.

Nothing to be proud of, but I got to, face to face, deliver some contempt to my local MP today, when I went to vote early.

He came waving a pamphlet at me, with a fake smile, as I entered the polling area.

I recognised him instantly, coz he’s a right-wing Liberal (previously Abbotteer) freedom wanker, in one of the safest seats in Australia.

I said, calmly, “Piss off, idiot”…his smile turned into a sneer, and he griped at me as I showed him my back as I entered the building.

    Intensely satisying, if ultimately futile.

With just six days left in a six-week election campaign, Mr Morrison will use the launch to outline a plan that would lower the age at which Australians are able to downsize their property and invest up to $300,000 per person from the proceeds into superannuation.

    How innovative … duh!

Perhaps they do or maybe they don’t BUT such considerations are somewhat irrelevant. A sideshow. An unnecessary luxury. Surplus to requirements. Missing the point.

The first (and only) task of any aspiring politician is to get elected. If successful, the next task is to be re-elected. That’s their KPIs. (And so it goes.)

So while the end(s) is/are unarguably clear, the means are always flexible. Never forget, in the political world the end justifies the means. .

Withdrawing ‘super’ might be ‘stupid’, such irrationality can be easily justified by its contribution (real or potential) to the re-election of a particular Member and/or government. Remember that’s the Number One (and only) consideration.

Currently, politics is about the metaphorical here and now . The future is for the next political class to worry about. As for the citizens – who cares?

UAP labels Chinese-owned mine that pays Clive Palmer $1m a day a security threat.

A United Australia Party advertisement making unsubstantiated claims that an airport at a WA mine could aid a Chinese invasion ignores that the mine is party founder Clive Palmer’s main source of income.

The video claims Chinese-owned Sino Iron having its own airport – like nearly all major WA mines that rely on a fly-in fly-out workforce – is “contrary to the security of Australia”.

Free speech in right wing terms usually means bullshit … and Clivey has a monopoly on bright yellow bullshit billboards across the country …

It infringes human rights and is like commenting on the size of a woman’s breasts, it said.

Baldness was inherently related to sex because men were far more likely to lose their hair than women, said the panel, itself made up of three folically challenged men.

    Back to the AUSTRALIAN election

Text messages claiming the independent candidate challenging the traditionally safe Nationals seat of Nicholls, Rob Priestly, has been endorsed by “Dan Andrews’ Labor party” are being sent to voters in the electorate and appear to be authorised by the Coalition junior partner.

Anna Kemp was among a number of constituents in the rural Victorian seat who received a text Monday evening which read: “You have been selected to participate in a survey by CMS Research about Rob Priestly’s endorsement by Daniel Andrews’ Labor Party.”

The state premier has been controversial in some rural Victorian seats due to ongoing lockdowns.

The text message provided a link to the website for CMS (Constituent Management Services), which the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) shows is an entity associated with the National Party of Australia – NSW.

The website says it is authorised by “J. Lundy, Level 2, 107 Pitt St, Sydney, 2000.”

The US political system is always for sale (if it hasn’t already been sold) and, even then, there’s the possibility of a better offer. Highest bidder and all that.

    Also happens in Australia.

Here, we stress the economic aspects of political life almost to the exclusion of all else. The dollars matter. Why it even permeates our language.

Next Australia Day, we might keep up with the misunderstandings and swear in new ‘taxpayers’. Rupert will qualify as an Australian once again. As will every backpacker and foreign diplomat who buys … anything.

And they say, 16 Years is too young to vote.

So there’s change in the wind including:

a 2 per cent increase to the public sector efficiency dividend to save $3.3 billion dollars

So with that ‘efficiency dividend’ be applied to the parliament itself (and all whose salaries reside within)? Will it be applied to the enormous amounts paid to non-government schools? Will it apply to the Army, Navy, Airforce? Or are they not part of the ‘public sector’?

If not, are they part of the ‘private sector?

While the political (sideshow) debate focuses on Albo versus Morrison, the significant development is the ideological shift of dollars from the public sector to the private.

    Here’s an example:

With a litany of special deals that have shamelessly favoured the non-government sector, the Morrison Government has barely maintained a pretence of governing in the interests of all Australian children. They include JobKeeper subsidies for private schools that made huge profits; flood disaster relief for private schools only; a $1.2 billion dollar ‘Choice and Affordability’ slush fund for the non-government sector, and yet another billion in the March budget.

I was just re-reading Manufacturing Consent. The mechanisms it describes continue to operate today in the MSM:

The essential ingredients of our propaganda model, or set of news “filters,” fall under the following headings: (I) the size, concentrated ownership, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the dominant mass-media firms; (~) advertising as the primary income source of the mass media; (3) the reliance of the media on information provided by government, business, and “experts” funded and approved by these primary sources and agents of power; (4) “flak” as a means of disciplining the media; and (5) “anticommunism” as a national religion and control mechanism.

These elements interact with and reinforce one another. The raw material of news must pass through successive filters, leaving only the cleansed residue fit to print. They fix the premises of discourse and interpretation, and the definition of what is newsworthy in the first place, and they explain the basis and operations of what amount to propaganda campaigns.

The “elite” are now the tech billionaires, the leftists controlling the MSM, social media and infesting educational institutions. Times have changed and “anticommunism” as a natural religion has bee replaced by wokeism as an all-pervasive cult.

A further 21 percent of abortions were performed on Hispanics, and 7 percent more on other minority groups, for a total of 64 percent of U.S. abortions tragically performed on minority groups. In the matter of those particular ablutions, TB, there is a prescribed method (which I think might include the holy writings of Little Johnny Howard):

“Muhammad instructed his followers to clean their private parts with an odd number of stones, numbering no less than three. If you have no stones handy there is no need to worry. According to Islamic law, pages from the Torah or New Testament will do the job just fine.”

No doubt you are curious as to the correct technique for using the stones:

    6. The impurity should not go beyond the inner buttock^^ and the

    head of the penis.

    7. Water should not splash onto the stone.^^

    8. The stones to be used should be pure.

Note: The Sunnah Way for Using a Stone:

    1. Begin to wipe from front to back on the right side with the
first stone, similarly wipe the left with the second, and wipe
both sides and the anus with the third. Each wiping must
begin at a point on the skin that is free of impurity.

    2. It is sunnah (recommended) to add an odd number of stones
e.g. five, seven and so on.

    3. It is makruh (offensive) to use the right hand to clean the
    impurity.

Inner buttock refers to that which is enfolded when standing.
It will not be valid to use a wet stone. “

“the potential demographic and sociopolitical factors influencing such skewed statistics?”

We know these ‘demographic’ factors first hand from Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood:

she advanced a controversial “Negro Project,” wrote in her autobiography about speaking to a Ku Klux Klan group and advocated for a eugenics approach to breeding for “the gradual suppression, elimination and eventual extinction, of defective stocks — those human weeds which threaten the blooming of the finest flowers of American civilization.”

    As to the Negro project:

In a letter to Clarence Gable in 1939, Sanger wrote: “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members” (Margaret Sanger commenting on the ‘Negro Project’ in a letter to Gamble, Dec. 10, 1939).
    ………..

“While I personally believe in the sterilization of the feeble-minded, the insane and syphilitic, I have not been able to discover that these measures are more than superficial deterrents when applied to the constantly growing stream of the unfit. They are excellent means of meeting a certain phase of the situation, but I believe in regard to these, as in regard to other eugenic means, that they do not go to the bottom of the matter.” (“Birth Control and Racial Betterment,” Feb. 1919, The Birth Control Review).

Certainly the skewed statistics reflect the founder’s intentions.

    Re:

Labor has talked the talk …

When? Must have missed that bit.

Seems to me that Morrison lost this election just as Shorten lost the last.

Albo’s first (macro) priority will be to win (or not lose) the next election so there won’t be any imaginative agenda. But there will be pressure from The Tealers and The Greens to ‘govern’; to ‘lead’; to ‘intervene’ in the market – in contrast to the previous administration which didn’t believe in ‘governing’ except when it came to ‘pork distribution’ and the allocation of ‘sinecures’.

Nevertheless, such a future will be enough for Barnaby to drink even more but this time the ‘shout’ won’t be on the public purse. Should help with both the deficit and the debt in the medium and longer term. And one suspects that while the government will be out of his life , he will have many, many regrets.

Suspect that Rudd will make a reappearance in some form or other – despite protestations to the contrary. Perhaps he could head an Inquiry into the Murdoch Empire in Australia? 0r at least write the Terms of Reference. Probably do that for free.
