‘Robodebt’ Class Action Lawsuit could bring down the Coalition Government!

September 17, 2019

The Coalition government has is in full-blown panic mode following the shock announcement that Melbourne based law firm Gordon Legal is launching a class action lawsuit against the Federal Government over its so-called “robodebt” scheme.

UNLAWFUL CONDUCT!

Peter Gordon, a senior partner at the law firm, said the collection of money based solely on a computer algorithm was unlawful.

“We’ll allege that to simply collect money from hundreds of thousands of people by the simplistic application of an imperfect computer algorithm is wrong.”

“We think that before the Government docked the pensions or took the tax refunds of widows and carers and aged pensioners it needed to have better evidence, it needed to consider each case individually.”

Mr Gordon said he expected up to 160,000 people could fall under the class action, and the action would seek both repayment of falsely claimed debts and compensation for affected people.

He said the system had unlawfully taken tens of millions of dollars from Australians, and he was “comfortably satisfied” the suit met the requirements of a class action.

“Not every case needs to be exactly the same. They only have to be roughly similar,” he said.

The Federal Government Minister responsible for the scheme Stuart Robert is so far ‘missing in action’ but is no stranger to controversy.

Last year, the former Assistant Treasurer was forced to repay $37,975 in ‘residential internet fees’ he had claimed as ministerial expenses.

At the time, Robert claimed that he had “connectivity” issues despite his semi-rural home being located approximately 15km from the heart of Surfers Paradise.

He claimed a total of $62,814.52 for his residential internet costs, and while these costs were consistently high, there was a noticeable and significant spike in Robert’s residential internet expenses in 2016.

This spike prompted speculation about the reason for his high residential internet costs. Around the same time, coincidentally, the church where Robert and his family worship, METRO Pentecostal Church on the Gold Coast, launched their Christian TV streaming service.

In 2012, Robert delivered a speech to Parliament that had sections of it written by a lobbyist for Gold Coast property developer Sunland.

The following year, he and his wife were gifted gold Rolex watches, valued at $50,000 each from a Chinese billionaire businessman.

Yeah. It’s also really unusual for a woman not to want to press charges against their abusive husband. That’s me we happened before and it never has anything to do with control and bullying.

This case is absolutely unique and Setka is a fine and non abusive family man. And admission of guilt is no proof of guilt. Particularly in domestic violence.

Local councils will be forced to hold citizenship ceremonies on January 26 under new federal government rules – and will also have to enforce strict dress standards for the presentations.

The move cements a push against dozens of councils that have cancelled Australia Day celebrations out of respect for indigenous people.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has previously declared thongs and boardshorts are inappropriate clobber for citizenship ceremonies, although the new code will not dictate standards.

However, councils will be stripped of their right to hold the ceremonies if they refuse to comply.

“Australia Day is a chance for all Australians to celebrate our successful multicultural nation,” Immigration Minister David Coleman said on Friday.

“We want as many people as possible to receive the privilege of citizenship on January 26.”

Councils will also have to create and enforce dress standards for citizenship ceremonies. National and cultural dress will still be permitted.

You have just explained why debt always goes up under Labor. You could make that argument for not cutting govt spending anywhere. The GFC was caused by reckless spending and lending. The world has learnt nothing from the last GFC but just increased govt debt when we should have been reducing it.

The next GFC will be worse than the last. Australia was debt free in 2007. Since then we have racked up $400B of govt debt with nothing to show for it. WE could have built 5 of Labors Rolls Royce NBNs with that money

Our “car industry” was owned by overseas companies – USA and Japan … but the LIEberals killed it via “Treasurer” (sic) Joe Hockey (puff – puff) …

Australia only ever had ONE company – Holden … want to know its history:

The company was founded in 1856 as a saddlery manufacturer in South Australia. In 1908, it moved into the automotive field, becoming a subsidiary of the United States-based General Motors (GM) in 1931, when the company was renamed General Motors-Holden’s Ltd. It was renamed Holden Ltd in 1998, and General Motors-Holden in 2005.

And LIEberal wankers complained about the “humongous” wages car assembly workers took home … particularly the ones who think a screwdriver is a drink …

    Take your time … BUT!

40/50,000 people (And their FAMILIES) lost their income because of more LIEberal Party ignorance of how the country (and world) actually works!

    Read this:

    https://www.tai.org.au/node/451

    And this:

    https://www.smh.com.au/business/the-economy/australias-car-industry-one-year-from-closing-its-doors-20151013-gk7ip0.html

    And this:

It concluded the economy was $21.5 billion better off because of government subsidies to the car industry and nearly 40,000 jobs would be lost if car makers pulled out of Australia this decade.

Chamber chief executive Tony Weber said even it was surprised by the findings.

“When you compare the level of assistance provided by the Government, which is less than $500 million a year, the benefit for the economy is extremely large so this is very conservative modelling,” he said.

    This is hilarious………..

    From the Australian today…………….

The British Labour Party will go into the next general election with a firm plan – derided by critics as “an act of national self-harm’’ – to abolish all private schools and redistribute their properties and investments.

Labour’s dramatic education policy, agreed at its annual conference this morning, would see private schools integrated into the state sector if it won the election.

The education plan is just the latest in a raft of far-left Labour policies under leader Jeremy Corbyn and shadow chancellor John McDonnell, who want to nationalise key government services such as transport and housing.

While a general election has not yet been called, the ongoing Brexit uncertainty and parliamentary upheaval has increased the chances of one being held soon.

Labour members voted that if they were in government, all British private schools would have all public subsidies and tax privileges, including business rate exemptions and charitable status withdrawn. The education policy approved by the conference also says “endowments, investments and properties held by private schools to be redistributed democratically and fairly across the country’s educational institutions’’.

This is great news for Boris. Bring on the election

Hopefully Tanya will insist on something similar and consign the ALP to the dustbin of hisory

reuters .. France has the world’s second-largest fleet of nuclear reactors behind the United States, but a spate of technical problems, coupled with hitches at reactors under construction, has tarnished EDF’s image as a leader in nuclear technology.

At least five nuclear reactors are affected by this problem,” Le Figaro newspaper quoted Bernard Doroszczuk, head of the ASN regulator, as saying.

EDF has advised that in around a week it will give an exact number of facilities affected,” Doroszczuk added.

A spokesman for EDF said that there was no plan to shut down the reactors involved for the time being, but the situation could change and it would be for ASN to decide.

The spokesman added that EDF could also decide to halt the affected reactors.

We are carrying out an in-depth investigation of every part in the reactors that could be impacted by the issue. Based on the investigation, we will determine the remedial options.

From the Wall Street Journal today

“In the iconography of traditional religion, children have often played a central role. The revelation of universal truth to an innocent child is an inspiring story that is very effective in both offering role models and propagating the faith. There’s a reason the European faithful used to venerate St Therese of Lisieux, St Bernadette of Lourdes, the children of Fatima in Portugal: the testimony of a guileless child is a powerful weapon against scepticism.

Enter the Swedish 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, now come among us in New York for Climate Week. Her story is compelling: It recalls that of St Bernadette, exposed to the truth as a child and animated with a passionate mission to share it with the rest of humanity. As with child saints of the conventional type, Thunberg has overcome and indeed channelled personal challenges (she calls her autism a “superpower” rather than a disability) and has proved a remarkable inspiration to fellow teenagers throughout the world.

Like the children of Fatima, she has a simple message that, if followed, promises to save the world from catastrophe. And now we have the near miraculous spectacle of her sailing across the Atlantic without emitting a molecule of carbon dioxide. Well, almost: It seems that perhaps there was some climate-altering emission involved after all. But it was a brilliant stunt. She could not have made a bigger impact if she’d walked across.”

    Consensus!

    Press briefing
    European Climate Declaration

There is no climate emergency, say 500 experts

AS THE LATEST U.N. climate summit begins in New York, a new, high-level global network of 500 prominentclimate scientists and professionals has submitted a declaration that there is no “climate emergency”.

The group has sent a European Climate Declaration with a registered letter to António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Professor Guus Berkhout of The Netherlands, who organized the Declaration, said: “So popular is the Declaration with scientists and researchers worldwide that signatories are flooding in not only from within Europe but also from other countries such as the United States and Canada, Australia and New Zealand.”

The group’s letter warns the U.N. that “the general-circulation models of climate on which international policy is at present founded are unfit for their purpose”.
The Declaration adds that the models, which have predicted far more warming than they should (see diagram), “are not remotely plausible as policy tools”, in that “they … exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases such as CO2” and “ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial”.

The collapse of the Russiagate collusion narrative.

It read like a spy movie, and had people gripped. Russiagate, the theory that Donald Trump colluded with Vladimir Putin to hijack the 2016 US presidential elections, was a story that was too big to fail.

But that’s what happened, and certain US news outlets now have some questions to answer because the Mueller report has found no smoking gun.

Having sold Americans the seductive and conspiratorial notion that the man in the oval office was a compromised foreign agent, now comes a moment of reckoning for the US media.

As for Trump himself, after two years of accusing the media of a witchHunt, calling them the enemy of the people, this story has handed him a 2020 election gift like no other.

Although, I do take the advice of the scientific community, not a small collection of paid for scientists and their rag tag bunch of crazies pretending to be scientists

    Terrestrial and Wetland Ecosystems

Risks of local species losses and, consequently, risks of extinction are much less in a 1.5°C versus a 2°C warmer world (high confidence). The number of species projected to lose over half of their climatically determined geographic range at 2°C global warming (18% of insects, 16% of plants, 8% of vertebrates) is projected to be reduced to 6% of insects, 8% of plants and 4% of vertebrates at 1.5°C warming (medium confidence). Risks associated with other biodiversity-related factors, such as forest fires, extreme weather events, and the spread of invasive species, pests and diseases, would also be lower at 1.5°C than at 2°C of warming (high confidence), supporting a greater persistence of ecosystem services.

Yeah, I’m not sure per-capita emissions are the correct metric to use, particularly when we are concerned with reducing bulk CO2 in the atmosphere. Total emissions per country per annum might be more relevant.

Emissions from a number of growing economies have been increasing rapidly over the last few decades. Fast-forwarding to annual emissions in 2014, we can see that a number of low to middle income nations are now within the top global emitters. In fact, China is now the largest emitter, followed by (in order) the US, EU-28, India, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Mexico. Note that a number of nations that are already top emitters are likely to continue to increase emissions as they undergo development.

No, CO2 per capita is misdirection. The per capita figure includes mining and exports. Even if individuals reduced their personal emissions, they can do nothing about those larger ‘polluters’. Total emissions per country per annum is what governments are being asked to control.

I must admit to being a little perplexed about the calls to stop coal mining in Australia.

Hey dumb arse ; trioli was on radio before she did breakfast claptrap. Sounds like rebs not a fan. Should checkout latelineland interview with barney many years ago. While barney was blathering r`tarded nonsense via out of studio hookup, camera cut back to in-studio trioli pulling faces and doing `crazy` hand signal to studio staff. Went to air. Fcuking hilarious. She can do good interviews and squeeze the pollys, tho she does blather well too. My guess would be ; she tired of doing breakfast claptrap ; which is mostly fluff ; and thinks radio might be less tedious.
