Jukebox Jury!

In a refreshing change, here’s a post that has nothing to do with politics – Musics!
And the theme is “underrated tracks from the 80’s.”
The only ‘rule’ is that you have to introduce your track and why you’re posting it.
Knock yourself out.

If I was driving to Florida, I would probably want to be listening to something like this on the way …
And the theme is “underrated tracks from the 80’s.”
I don’t have the time nor the crayons to explain it to you … all
The popular night club sound on Ios in the early 80s
I’m likely to turn into Nasking with this thread!

Awwwwww fuck! Big but furless … aaaagh!
It could ruin your journalism career, Wally, tread lightly!
Dog help us all. 🙄
Fine Young Cannibals were a massive band in the 80’s but vanished after just a couple of albums. Lead singer Roland Gift went on to pursue a solo career but never rekindled the international fame of FYC.
One of their lesser known tracks was “I’n not the Man I used to Be.” From a band that once played stadiums, here’s a very amateur audience recording of Roland Gift performing it live at a very small jazz club in London in 2015.
It’s a fantastic version, not just because the very nature of a single hand held camera is raw in its unfinished authenticity, but also because he could well be reflecting upon his own past, which in turn causes us to reflect upon our own, just as we have changed through the years.
Australia’s best pub band!! Sports
“Australia’ best pub band?” Hmmm, I doubt it from that selection YoM.
Here’s another “encore” from Roland. Live in 2019 but it’s still a song from the 80s (I think)..
Followed by Mental as Anything!
Roxy Music were massive in the 80s and the lead singer Bryan went on to pursue his own career with a couple of successful solo albums.
He’s still touring, but one song I really enjoy is his melancholic version of “More than this” which is quite a change from the 80s pop hit it once was…
You’re forgetting the “rules” YoM.. See the original post..
Ok, the Dynamic Hepnotics are no. 3 and Continental Robert (Sous) would pass out, dead at the end of every performance! Carried off! Only to spring back to life for the encore
Jesus fkn Christ!
Haven’t you got something from Val Doonican you’d like to post TB…??
What a line up of talent!
Mental As Anything are an Australian new wave/pop rock band that formed in Sydney in 1976. Its most popular line-up (which lasted from 1977 to 1999) was Martin Plaza (birth name Martin Murphy) on vocals and guitar; Reg Mombassa (birth name Christopher O’Doherty) on lead guitar and vocals; his brother Peter “Yoga Dog” O’Doherty on bass guitar and vocals; Wayne de Lisle (birth name David Twohill) on drums; and Andrew “Greedy” Smith on vocals, keyboards and harmonica
It’s a pity they’re carking it!
Back to the nightclubs of Ios – Blondie is a favourite
(Knock yourself out.
Sounds like fun!)
Loved the Roland Gift. Frankie certainly grabbed me. I’ll start with Leon Ware’s Why I Came To California. I love this song for its rhythmic touches and its smooth jazzy style. It is cool, upbeat and just makes me happy every time I hear it:
Haven’t you got something from Val Doonican you’d like to post TB…??
Who was she, reb?
Jesus fkn Christ! Of all the decades to pick!
After checking above …. I rest my case.
As a little HeadBanger back in the 80’s, many of my mates were a little confused over some of my musical choices. But they were great live. And they did a have a big hit back then. This wasn’t it.
This band were also looking like going on to bigger things, but then … they just disappeared? Used to go and watch them regularly at the Bridgeway. Good old Gawler Blues 🙂
They may not be underrated, but they’re from Glasgow and therefore sensational !
OK Reb…………………………from the days when I was a Left wing lunatic a song about Maggie Thatcher and the evil Tories.
“Blue”
Ooooohaaaah
I’ve had a bad day, yeah
My hometown is falling down, I’m mad about that
And people there don’t seem to care, I’m mad about that
Chorus:
Good god, all my tears
There’s no denying life
Would be better if I never ever had to live with you
Blue – it’s a colour so cruel
Repeat chorus
Government has got me wrong, I’m mad about that
And it makes me feel like I don’t belong, I’m mad about that
It’s making life a misery, you would have taken the liberty
Government has got me wrong, I’m mad about that
Chorus
Repeat chorus
There you go telling lies, it’s no surprise
I say a prayer, to make you care
You wouldn’t listen
It’s been too long, it’s time you’re gone
Get away from here
I’ve had too much – but not enough
It’s time you left
but they’re from Glasgow and therefore sensational
And that was pretty the song of the 80’s, if you had to pick one. It wasn’t the best, but it was just a reflection of the times.
from the days when I was a Left wing lunatic a song about Maggie Thatcher and the evil Tories.
Was always a fan of Fine Young Cannibals, loved his voice. And hating on Maggie was just what you did back then apparently.

Finally. Something we can agree on.
“And hating on Maggie was just what you did back then apparently.”
Well yes, that goes without saying. She makes Bronwyn Bishop look like a leftie.
1981……………….who could forget this…………..
According to Wiki it rated No. 1 only in the UK, Canada and the Netherlands. In the USA it was around 29. In Oz it was a 6
That’s why I posted it
No bats were harmed in the making of this video
Finally. Something we can agree on.
LOL!
OK, I confess to being a fan (and singing) The Proclaimers songs …
Like …
More from Australia’s most underrated band
This is probably not underrated, and I’m posting it because the other one with the weird dancing is overrated. Talking Heads, Burning Down The House, 1983.
This one.
Once In A Lifetime, 1980.
Should I Stay or Should I Go, The Clash.
