Send in the tanks: Russia invades Ukraine!

February 22, 2022

VLADIMIR PUTIN has deployed troops to two Russia-backed separatist territories in Ukraine, escalating a conflict that Western officials warn could explode into one of the biggest armed clashes in Europe since World War II.

During a blunt televised address yesterday, Putin declared that Ukraine, as a country, was “created by Russia.”

Russian state television then showed Mr. Putin signing decrees directing the Russian Defense Ministry to deploy troops in those regions to carry out so-called “peacekeeping functions,” which is a bit like calling demolition experts “home improvement specialists.”

The White House has issued a statement saying the US will impose sanctions against people “doing business” in the separatist regions, and that it would “soon announce additional measures related to today’s blatant violation of Russia’s international commitments.”

Meanwhile Putin called Ukraine’s elected pro-Western leaders “stooges” and cast them as the aggressors, even though Russia has an estimated 150,000 to 190,000 soldiers surrounding Ukraine.

While Putin’s ultimate plans remain a mystery, a full invasion would constitute the largest military action in Europe since World War II.

The Russians are not very creative … they just copy Hitler

The Gleiwitz incident (German: Überfall auf den Sender Gleiwitz; Polish: Prowokacja gliwicka) was a false flag attack on the radio station Sender Gleiwitz in Gleiwitz (then Germany and today Gliwice in Poland) staged by Nazi Germany on the night of 31 August 1939. Along with some two dozen similar incidents, the attack was manufactured by Germany as a casus belli to justify the invasion of Poland, which began the next morning.[1] The attackers posed as Polish nationals.

    Oh dear!

Senator Payne says European countries like Poland and Lithuania, who neighbour Ukraine, were concerned that Russia could target them next.

“Countries in the region are very concerned,” she told 2GB on Tuesday morning.

Australia has been very clear about our commitment to their sovereignty and their territorial integrity.

The Australian economy is about the same size as Russia’s. We were expected to shit ourselves when the CCP engaged in some economic bullying, like wine and lobster
Genuine, hard sanctions on Russia, even at the cost of some discomfort among western democracies, seems appropriate

What’s the difference(s) between economic bullying and sanctions ?

No need for an essay. A detailed list will suffice.

Did you know that a 2019 survey found that 82% of Crimea’s population supported Crimea’s accession to Russia. And the same survey also found that 58% of Crimean Tatars now supported Crimea’s accession to Russia, as opposed to 39% in 2014.

Does some parts of Scotland still want to become independent? Did Britain leave the European Union?

What percentage of Australian Aborigines now endorse the invasion of a few centuries ago? Are you aware that there’s a move for the Torres Strait Islands to secede?

Is WA still threating? What about Texas?

Are such moves like a pandemic or simply endemic ?

The CCP applied trade sanctions on Australia, because said things they didn’t like. The message was- If you wish to trade with us, you have to be subservient. This will also serve as a message to other countries that might feel like getting uppity
    * That’s attempting to bully
On the other hand, most western democracies are concerned about the massing of 130,000 Russian military personnel and their killing apparatus, on and over the border of an independent country.
    * Application of significant trade and financial sanctions appears the minimum that is warranted
    Do you notice the difference?

  12. February 22, 2022 7:19 pm

Tom I was enquiring at the “conceptual” level. Let me explain via a definition

“Something is conceptual when it deals primarily with abstract or original thoughts.”

Lots of Coalition supporters have given upon the Coalition so will now vote for a minor party. They are not even trying to get the budget back into surplus. In contrast Howard was running surplus budgets within 12 months of winning govt in 1996.

People who believe in budget deficits have won. Lefties generally win in the long run. All a Conservative can do is try and slow down our decent into the abyss

Neil, clearly you’re able to read the question BUT your answer doesn’t relate.

So should they serve the Minister or the Public?

And if it’s taxpayers money, can these taxpayers decide not to hand it over? Do these taxpayers decide what it will be spent on? Do they decide how much will be spent?

In short, do these taxpayers decide the ‘when’, ‘how’, ‘why’ etc of the spending (or not) of this taxpayers money? If not, then perhaps it’s not taxpayers money after all?

An ‘explanation’ of sorts – too long in the making:

Since Ukraine is a bulwark between Russia and NATO Europe, its refusal to commit to being a neutral country like Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, and Cyprus (each of whom belong to the EU, but not NATO) looks now to have consigned it to being a client state of Russia like Belarus.

    Further:

Also, Ukraine never gave the two eastern provinces (parts of which broke away) the self-governing autonomy they were promised in the Minsk Agreements.

What would we do without PEARLS and IRRATIONS ?

Another Global Times article alleged that sonobuoys can also be used to gather information on the performance capabilities and signatures of surface vessels. Was the Australian aircraft crew doing either of these? If so, the question then becomes who was trying to intimidate the other?

The US produced P8As are armed with torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and other weapons. Reportedly the closest it came to the Chinese warships was 2.4 miles. Did the Chinese commander consider this an ‘unsafe’ distance, harassment or a ‘provocation’, and if so, why?

    Dutton’s can be a dickhead …

“China and Russia have entered into this frankly unholy alliance and President Xi has a lot of power he can exert over President Putin.

“He has chosen not to do that. The world should observe that very closely.”

(Think it – don’t say it publicly)

However, I have, on occasion, to agree with Dutton …

However, Mr Dutton claimed Australia, the US and its allies had done all they could to deter Mr Putin.

“What more can the world do? There can be forces sent in and then you would be saying, ‘Why have we entered into a nuclear war?’” Mr Dutton told Nine.

Israel is flawed, but it’s best to remember-
    * Its neighbour is committed to its destruction
    * It occupies (some of the) territory it occupies after being attacked in 1967
    * Parts of Israel were only about 10 km wide, making defence almost impossible
    * The Arab League declined to accept the legal establishment of Israel within its legally defined borders, and instead vowed to push it into the sea

“As someone mentioned, Russia is basically practicing what Israel has been for decades in Palestine.”

Reading that ludicrous lie is like eating dogshit – it is disgusting, sickening and something decent people would prefer not to have to do.

Unlike Ukraine, Palestine has never existed as a country. It could have if the Palestinians had accepted the UN plan in 1948 as Israel did.

Unlike the Ukrainians, the Palestinians instead chose the path of terror and murder. They say it is their Islamic duty.

Unlike Russia, Israel gained territory in conflicts it did not start when Arab armies were trying to invade it and murder its Jewish citizens: in 1948 ( Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon) , 1967 (Jordan, Syria and Egypt) and 1973 (Syria and Egypt).

Palestinians now live in poverty under corrupt terrorist rulers. If they had an ounce of sense they would beg the Israelis to rule them. But they don’t. They raise their children with seething hatred for Jews. The Palestinians were Hitler’s allies in WWII, but unlike the Germans they have never renounced their murderous anti-Semitism.

Putin is a despotic maniac … among other things …

Having nuclear missiles in you “backyard” makes you a target … Ukraine has none … yet.

Issue here is if Russia takes Ukraine … where will Putin park his missiles?

It was a massive problem in the UK in the ’50s 60’s …

China could knock Australia out in eight strikes —- Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville and Darwin

Lucky we don’t have nukes … and nuclear subs (yet) …

If you have a weapon be prepared to use it.

A weapon can always be used against you …

  79. February 25, 2022 8:12 pm

Yes Tom R – “Russia did back off”. Why didn’t ToM mention that?

And while ToM’s piece is loaded with ‘facts’, it demonstrates that, while facts are necessary,(indeed essential), they are never sufficient.

The problem (with any argument) is usually not a shortage of facts but their over-abundance. Indeed they are often in plague proportions The issue (often) becomes not what (facts) to include but what to leave out. Thus, the selection becomes crucial.

Then there’s the “meaning” to be given to the selection(s) made. Yes, different meaning(s) can be given to the same facts. And often are. Just ask any historian.

Best to leave it there for the moment.

Yes ToM, apparently you see a “false equivalence” based on certain “facts” etc as chosen by you. And you are entitled to that view. We are not talking about TRUTH here are we? At least I make no such (truth) claims.

But perhaps you might entertain the possibility that there are other “facts”. Other “interpretations” and indeed other “equivalences” (at least at the conceptual level) which are somewhat different to the ones you chose?

For example, we might theorise that both the USA (way back when) and Russia (more recently) believed/perceived/felt that their security was threatened by (nuclear) missiles stationed “close at hand”. Fact or not?

Both threatened Nations attempted to “negotiate” in the hope of ending/removing that threat.

In the first instance, the USA was not attacked because the “negotiation” was successful (and for a whole range of reasons not yet discussed) and Russia backed off, after some significant concessions not made public at that time.

In the second instance, the “negotiation” was unsuccessful (actually a realistic negotiation didn’t happen). Fact or not?

See any parallels? Or if you don’t can you see how others might?

Did NATO lead Ukraine down the metaphorical garden path? (And it was led!) So to what extent was the leadership willing to be led? What promises (actual and implied) were made? How long before they (the promises) surface?

Given Russia will lose financially (because of the sanctions) which nations/companies will likely benefit? Do such companies make financial, political contributions? (Silly question – because in the USA that’s how it works.)

So many questions that might be asked (and should) but won’t be.

    Re:

nuclear weapons actually being pointed at you,

Not sure how you determine whether the missiles are actually pointed at you or not. As I understand it, they are pointed and fired towards the sky with final guidance coming after launch.

Accordingly, it’s reasonably safe to assume that the Cuban missiles were/would be guided towards the USA and the NATO missiles will be guided towards either Russia (or China). Or are you suggesting it might be … ? (Suggestions welcome.)

But that’s not the point! Largely because they (usually) become distractions. Surely we can do better than that? Certainly not here to defend Putin. After all I’ve been to Russia. Lol/

Facts … are like fish swimming about in a vast and sometimes inaccessible ocean; and what the historian catches will depend, partly on chance, but mainly on what part of the ocean he chooses to fish in and what tackle he chooses to use – these two factors being, of course, determined by the kind of fish he wants to catch.

By and large, the historian will get the kind of facts he wants.

    https://www.historytoday.com/archive/making-history/fishing-facts

Yes Michael Dobbs has written AN account. And that should be taken into account. But it will never be a definitive one.

Agree, ToM, and it dawned on me this morning (must have been the thunder that awoke me) Ukraine isn’t a member of NATO … but the concept of “history rhymes” kicks in …eg WW2 – Germany sends troops into Rhineland and occupies, then Czechoslovakia invasion, – no action from the West … finally, an invasion ( confected by Germany) need for invading Poland … BOOM … the West totally unprepared (???) lethargically recognises there will not be “Peace in Our Time” …

The Russians are using a tactic they call “deep strike” – the Germans (Guderian) devised the concept originally called “blitzkrieg” …

My suspicion is that the West is fearful of a madman (Putin) having access to quite a few red buttons … Hitler had one thing going for him … most Germans supported him and many had nothing to lose and everything to gain with war … not this time for Putin.

    Re:

Indeed he is! And perhaps even worse. But, of course, that’s been known for decades – even by the information poor observer. The informed, on the other hand, know not to tease that particular Bear. The claws are far too sharp.

So why did those with supposed good will in their hearts encourage, (then sit back and spectate), a former comedian to poke that Russian Bear in the eye?

Perhaps it’s because they (the spectators) are war weary? So for the other it’s a case of: Give me liberty, or give me death!

Tom, the President of Ukraine (the successful television producer) claimed again and again that the Nation was “prepared”. Yes he was well scripted for his TV appearances.

Yet we witnessed what can only be regarded as ‘last minute panic’. What with well intentioned Chemistry students making and handing out Molotov Cocktails. Rifles distributed to untrained citizens. Jammed highways. Women fleeing with children in arms. Etc etc.

In terms of “preparation” it was farcical. (This was not a rehearsal for a TV production. No “cuts”. No second shoots. No clapperboards)

Putin can’t lose this invasion and in so many senses. His reputation as a strategist is on the line – both domestically and internationally. If he loses militarily against these relatively ill-equipped “amateurs” he will be a laughing stock, at home and abroad. So, because he MUST win he’ll he’ll go to any length. Speaking about a Nation selling this or that can be somewhat misleading. It’s often reported that Australia, for example, sold a record amount of X to nation Y. And while that may be true (at a level of generality) it’s often the case that it’s Company M (in Australia) selling to Company N in another nation.

More often than not the goods/service etc are already in transit. To complicate matters, these ‘deals’ are long standing. And if they are to continue after all this is over, it will be remembered which company delivered and which didn’t.

  172. March 1, 2022 9:38 pm

From the linked article: (an aside)

“if Poland just halts truck and rail traffic from Russia to Germany, “as it should,” it would create immediate havoc for Russia’s economy,”

Leaving Belarus and entering Poland has long been an ordeal. Passports are collected (on the bus) and delivered to an Office. Some (long) time later, an Officer (from Belarus) boards the bus and matches passport to person. (No smiling allowed – and that applies whenever meeting officialdom in this neck of the woods).

The record time for official clearance to depart Belarus (so I’m told) is/was 18 hours. A long time to be sitting on a bus. Known to order the unloading of every port and detailed investigation of each and every item within. Acts of pure bastardry but they want secure borders.

Cheers when clearance finally granted to depart; only to be followed by groans when the bus is stopped a short distance further down the road. This time it’s the Polish border guards who can sometimes prove that bastardry can be replicated. Perhaps why most only go to Russia once. (And there are other reasons as well.)

So “havoc” is (in a sense) the norm.

And yes the article is a good one. Where, when and how will it end?

fyi, I’m in the middle here. It’s good to get views, especially from pullitzer winners. I disagree with his (friedmans) call though, on almost every level.

This isn’t an 18th century war, Putin is NOT a madman, he is rat cunning, and calling him a madman I think plays into his larger game.

And we have been in/at war for the past 20 years, where everything has streamed live (almost). This is nothing ‘new’

The questions were good, but his answers (imo) were clouded by his ‘Putin = Madman’ bias. he needs to think deeper.

I read an article the other day, which to me made more sense. The attack is not about taking over Ukraine. It is about forcing a reaction from NATO, and gauging that it will not come. In the desire to expose NATO as a toothless tiger that Ukraine is better off without.

The NATO cloud has hung over Russia for decades, and he wants it gone, one way or another. This, to me, makes more sense than Putin = madman. He has shown his entire career he is ruthless, but cunningly so.

  175. March 2, 2022 11:00 am

“So woke they can’t even agree.”

    LOL…..!!!

“This isn’t an 18th century war, Putin is NOT a madman, he is rat cunning, and calling him a madman I think plays into his larger game.”

Yes good point. Friedman was being a little simplistic in the respect.

But not as simplistic as say Dutton – who is just completely out of his depth intellectually on almost every geo-political crisis he cares to comment on.

I do however, think that Putin has over-reached. It appears he was expecting Ukraine to simply roll over and surrender when the Russian troops strolled in but this hasn’t happened.

Brisbane is on the short-list to host nuclear submarines. If “successful”, the residents will become nuclear targets and that’s supposed to be a (positive) vote changer.

But whether it’s “successful” or not, the pending decision WILL be a talking point which is essentially crucial for a khaki election.

    That’s the advantage of incumbency.

  248. March 8, 2022 10:30 pm

Tom, the hard evidence of which you seek doesn’t exist because there’s no precedent. It’s a hypothetical .

And the notion that Australia or any other Nation would acquire nuclear submarines while refusing nuclear weapons in times of conflict is somewhat fanciful. Night invariably follows Day.

But perhaps you might point me to an historical time when a Nation facing calamitous defeat refused to employ the most effective technology (broadly defined) available?

But for other tasks, especially for operating against enemy shipping, conventionally powered diesel–electric subs are more cost-effective.

Then the Coalition was elected. I think Abbott wanted the Japanese diesel subs. They were up and running and working.

    Today:

Ukraine war: Moscow says it has found biological weapons in Ukraine – but US dismisses claims as ‘absurd propaganda’

    Two days ago:

Self-anointed “fact-checkers” in the U.S. corporate press have spent two weeks mocking as disinformation and a false conspiracy theory the claim that Ukraine has biological weapons labs, either alone or with U.S. support. …

Yesterday afternoon, Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), hoping to debunk growing claims that there are chemical weapons labs in Ukraine, smugly asked Nuland: “Does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?”

When asked whether Ukraine possesses “chemical or biological weapons,” Nuland did not deny this at all. She instead — with palpable pen-twirling discomfort and in halting speech, a glaring contrast to her normally cocky style of speaking in obfuscatory State Department officialese — acknowledged: “uh, Ukraine has, uh, biological research facilities.” Any hope to depict such “facilities” as benign or banal was immediately destroyed by the warning she quickly added: “we are now in fact quite concerned that Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to, uh, gain control of [those labs], so we are working with the Ukrainiahhhns [sic] on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach”

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by 1)dictatorial power, 2)forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society (workchoices?)and the economy (robodebt, indue?) that rose to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.

That story has been doing the rounds in left wing circles. But there has to be something wrong with it.

Menzies/Coalition was handed enormous WW2 debt and debt was reduced to ZERO by 1972.

If Menzies reduced govt debt to zero from something like 90% of GDP while running deficit budgets, he deserves a Nobel prize. Something else had to be going on.

Before his death, Kumanjayi Walker was known by his birth name, Arnold Charles Walker.

I guess it is part of the charade of re-inviting the violent thug as an angel. From now on it will be all about money and compensation and black victimhood.

Rather than bellyaching maybe the “community” should reflect on whether foetal alcohol syndrome and petrol sniffing were involved and Walker’s extreme violence against women and consider what they are doing about these problems. The community taking responsibility for its problems would be a good first step.

Here is some detail on Walker’s way with the ladies:

Walker would beat Robertson until she cried out in pain, kick her in the face, drag her by the hair and bash her – not only behind closed doors, but often in public as well.

He even attacked her while she slept.

And after episodes of severe physical abuse, he’d threaten to commit suicide if she reported the attacks to police.
    ..
The first assault occurred on April 10, 2016 when Rickisha was 14.
That evening Robertson was with two female cousins at the Yuendumu basketball court when Walker approached the girls and punched Robertson in the arm before twisting and extending it, causing her to scream out in pain.

Robertson’s cousins screamed at him to stop and he then started walking away.
“I’m going to kill myself if you don’t come with me,” he told Robertson.
His girlfriend, who was 15 at the time, went looking for him and found him sniffing petrol at the home of relative Ernest Brown.

He then turned around, grabbed Robertson around the throat with both hands, squeezed her neck tightly and lifted her off the ground.

Robertson was terrified and struggling to breathe when Brown intervened, pulling Walker’s hands off her neck.

Late the next night (April 11) Robertson was in the commentator’s grandstand at the football oval with her sister when Walker came to the oval with several girls.

Walker climbed the grandstand stairs and entered the commentator’s box where he grabbed Robertson by the arm and pulled her down the stairs.

Robertson tumbled down the stairs until she hit the ground at the bottom.
Walker then kicked and punched her in the face while she lay on the ground.
    ….
Rickisha, now 20, told The Australian the most painful attack was when Walker broke her left hand while beating her with a piece of steel.

“I tried blocking myself because he was really mad,” she said.

“He assaulted me because I’m the one who was doing the wrong thing.

“I was on the phone all night (and that was) making him mad.

“He wants me to sleep next to him and leave the phone and go to sleep but I was looking at Facebook.”

On that occasion, police were notified.
“He just broke my arm and like my bone was cracked but he’s the one who take me to hospital at Alice Springs,” she said.

Rickisha Robertson told The Australian her family tried to help Walker when his own family rejected him.

My grandfather and grandmother told him, ‘(he) gotta stay in this family’,” she said.
“My grandmother and grandfather told him, ‘you gotta live with us and we gotta give you my granddaughter’.

Morrison sups with Joyce and therefore needs deep pockets as well as a blind eye. Effectively, Barnaby’s driving the climate bus and because Morrison needs his vote(s) to occupy the Lodge that’s not going to change any time soon without an election.

Like many other Nations, ‘democracy’ (as a concept) is under siege. And that applies here in Australia as well.

The impact of the long-term democratic decline has become increasingly global in nature, broad enough to be felt by those living under the cruelest dictatorships, as well as by citizens of long-standing democracies. Nearly 75 percent of the world’s population lived in a country that faced deterioration last year. The ongoing decline has given rise to claims of democracy’s inherent inferiority.

    https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-world/2021/democracy-under-siege

In Australia, the designated Leader is not elected by by the Citizens directly. When ensconced, the unelected PM not only dominates the Legislature but also the Executive, whose members serve at the pleasure of this same (effective) dictator.

As for the Judiciary, it too is appointed in a manner similar to that of the Cabinet and without a Bill of Rights, sitting on the Bench takes on a pejorative meaning.

Even worse, there are no proposals to change things. And change we must. We have the technology. All we lack is the will. Political philosopher Baron de Montesquieu would be appalled.

TB – Don’t know whether ‘democracy’ is the best form of government or not. What I do know, is that, when it comes to ‘active and informed citizens’ participating in a democracy, it’s just not happening. Democracy in name but not lived.

Currently, we have a facade. An illusion. A sham.

And those who perhaps know it best (albeit subconsciously in many instances) and therefore refuse to participate, are the young. Youth, who tend to live a life of immediate gratification, laugh at what the ‘oldies’ endure. Mugs, one and all.

“whose members serve at the pleasure of this same (effective) dictator.”

I think you are referring to the ALP who have to wait until the leader loses an election to replace the cunt. Foe the other parties the members can sack their dictator PM when it suits them.

Our system is much better than, say, the EU where the parliament cant even introduce legislation.

The real threat to freedom now is technological. It is too easy for the Government, and the Big Tech robber barons to know all about you in microscopic detail and to punish your indiscretions. And it is only going to get worse – in the end there is no one who is pure enough for these tyrants.

  334. March 14, 2022 11:04 pm

    Re:

be governed by elected representatives …

But are you? The most powerful decision maker in Australia (at least in terms of formal structures) is the PM and YOU don’t get a direct say in that.

When it comes to whom will be the PM, YOU are on the sidelines. A spectator at best.

the other parties the members can sack their dictator PM when it suits them.

Do try to keep up. The Liberal Party rules have changed.

The prime minister told reporters the party room had resolved overwhelmingly that an elected Liberal party leader who goes to an election and wins will remain prime minister for the full parliamentary term.

    https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/dec/03/liberal-party-morrison-changes-rules-to-require-two-thirds-majority-to-unseat-sitting-pm

One could go on But choose not to because party political nonsense is perhaps best left for elsewhere at another time..

    As for:

It is too easy for … the Big Tech robber barons to know all about you in microscopic detail … And it is only going to get worse .

Can only agree. So how can we use ‘technology’ against this trend? It is possible.

Perhaps the starting point is to have the will?

“When it comes to whom will be the PM, YOU are on the sidelines. A spectator at best.”

Disagree. Indirect participation through voting counts. It could well be that most people vote for a party and its leader rather than a local member.

I’m not particularly against the direct election of an executive leader provided that the system overall is coherent. At the moment we do not have true separation of powers between the legislature and the executive.

“Do try to keep up. The Liberal Party rules have changed.”

I did not know that. But not knowing stuff hasn’t stopped me having opinions before. 🙂

“So how can we use ‘technology’ against this trend?”

I’m now reading The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. It is eye-opening. As to remedies I don’t know.

Ultimately the government is a big threat. It is inevitable that once information is collected it will be misused by government. They can’t help themselves. CBDCs are a major concern. If the government knows every transaction we do and can freeze or seize our funds at any time then we are in big trouble.

Aggregating information about people for the purpose of allocating a social credit score or rating or grading them individually, whether by a government or other entity should be criminalised.

I don’t think using anti-trust rules to break up monopolies is the answer.

Maybe giving individuals proprietary rights to information collected about them for commercial gain; also rights to see that information and to have it removed.

I’ve heard of blockchain solutions and I get the theory but I can’t envisage how these would work in practice.

Required interoperability rules might be applied to systems which have gained monopoly status through the network effect. The network effect is a valuable asset created by decisions of all users. Maybe they should have a say in the network or a share in its profits.

Also we could consider public square laws where if an app has become a de facto public square it’s right to censor is limited. Or at least the users get a choice to view the censored or uncensored version.

“””” How the hell did Menzies/Coalition take govt debt from 90% of GDP to ZERO by 1972 while running deficit budgets????????????????????????????? “””

So, according to Eachway, anyone concerned about the bullying that contributed to Senator Kitching’s death is being disrespectful. Disrespectful to the Mean Girls, I guess. Where is the sisterhood now? And why won’t the ALP investigate this cabal of cuntesses?

Things are going to plan for Biden. He has encouraged/provoked a war which serves the purpose of giving him the opportunity to distract from his catastrophic incompetence and to blame the consequences like oil prices and inflation on the war.

At least Biden doesn’t appear to want to turn the conflict into WWIII. But he will want an ongoing insurgency until the midterms.

None of this excuses what Putin has done or diminishes his responsibility for the carnage he has wrought on the people of Ukraine.

    Apologists for the fascist Putin-
    * Have a disdain for western liberal democracy that overwhelms their rationality
    * Contextualise/excuse the fascist’s invasion by pointing to every error made by the USA
    * Call the heads up “sickening”, that the US gave the CCP about the likely repercussions of them supporting Russia’s invasion
    * Knowingly or unknowingly excuse or rationalise the brutal invasion of Ukraine
Everyone that engages in the above tactics is a stupid fascist supporting F**KWIT

I don’t get what is hard about this. The simplistic view is Putin bad therefor Biden and Zelensky good.

Putin is responsible for his decisions and actions. There was no excuse for him to go to war. The death and carnage wreaked upon Ukrainians is all Putin’s fault.

Nevertheless, Biden is advantaged by all of this. And he could have done things to de-escalate the situation rather than invite Putin in.

In January Biden was threatening Russia if they invaded Ukraine, but he said minor incursions were a different thing. Nothing projects weakness like a corrupt senile fool who can barely complete a sentence.

Obama and Biden wouldn’t provide military aid at all. Trump did. Biden continued the policy but kept dragging his heels which also sent a message to the Russians.

Except a Trump in the Whitehouse … who would probably give the Russians air-cover (if he could build a Trump Tower in Moscow of course) … its all so easily negotiated …

While we are burbling nonsense politics … people are dying and being maimed in Ukraine by Russians … despite Biden’s senility not because of it … PUTIN would have attacked anyway because of 6500 nuclear weapons …

Get rid of Putin and get Russia to join the EEC … if you haven’t seen this you should …

Fact is, unlike Obama, Trump armed the Ukrainians and told Putin that he would bomb Russia if Putin moved on Ukraine. Putin, who grabbed territory under Bush, Obama and now Biden, refrained from doing that while Trump was president. Trump is the only recent president not to start a war.

OTOH, Obama told the Russians he would have “more flexibility” in his second term. Putin, knowing a feckless fool when sees one, waited until Obama’s second term and then seized Ukraine.

The shame of it is that Biden didn’t arm Ukraine as well as he armed his mates in the Taliban.

Funnily enough the usual suspects seem less exercised by this and the fatal Kitching bullying.

“Emma Husar — who held the seat of Lindsay for the ALP from 2016 to 2019 — claims the “toxic culture” in the party, and stress of being “bullied by powerbrokers”, caused her to develop a heart condition.

She is now directing her anger squarely at current Opposition Leader, Mr Albanese, saying his outrage over the use of the term “mean girls” was a form of gaslighting.

“A woman lost her life and there were circumstances that point to the Labor Party, but what Albo is doing here (by turning the phrase around) is absolute gaslighting,” she said.”

I’m sure Mongrel Milligan and her ABC colleagues will be on the case – making it disappear as quickly as possible.

Found in the rubble, an unread copy of `knot won inch closer` was discovered.`
